This estate is a beauty. Everything about the house and grounds was gorgeous. Funnily enough, out of all those beautiful rooms, I was drawn to the bathroom! I would love to have that off my bedroom!!!
The oak staircase and the wife's study were my favorites. Any natural unpainted woodwork is beautiful to me. What a tragedy just as it was coming back to life.
I don't know about a favorite room per say, but the woodwork in the home is nothing short of spectacular. Well, I should probably correct that to was spectacular. Too bad that it was lost.
The water/clock tower looked like a lighthouse. Liked the idea that the clock automatically signaled shifts for the workers. When the house fell victim to arsen while under remodeling, I wonder. (sure it did- -a.k.a insurance scam!) 😢😮😊😅😂
Great video about an impressive home tragically lost....What I admired most about the property was that it was both a beautiful estate as well as a working/productive farm. It really is sad when you hear or read about these grand estates from the 19th or early 20th century falling into ruin.....I think it would have been wonderful if the original property could somehow have survived into the 21st century as a kind of living museum and/or working-farm open to the public...ah well....at least we have your videos to give us these glimpses from the past...cheers!
We also have a Manor House, it is an AD 1961 1978 square foot rambling ranch with a in ground pool........ Thanks to This House for another enjoyable watch and for their time, work and posting......
You asked what we'd include: stables, gardens, koi ponds, pools, topiaries, a spot for archery, badminton, etc. Also, a library, an art studio, a yarn room, movie theatre, parlor, large dining hall, art exhibit room, music room, etc. I think it's pron "Grehn-itch."
1000 acres, wow! I wonder if even he could afford that much land in CT at today's prices. Ken, how is the work coming along on your sweet little house? I hope you are still planning for a conservatory. 😊
Brant's consortium bought from Lewis Rosensteil, who bought it in 1936 from Converse's estate. Rosensteil was the President of Schenley Liquors. Today it is a gated community of 95 10 acre minimum lot mansions. It has its own polo field.
If it is pronounced any other way than "green witch", then i think they should respell their town name. I'm guessing they pronounce it in some pretentious English accent that swallows half the letters.
Seriously. I don't get how youtube creators can butcher names and words. Some of them even admit they're probably saying something wrong. It's funny but sad considering there are *thousands* of 30 second long videos of how to pronounce countless names/words ON THIS VERY PLATFORM. Greenwich included. No excuse.
Same as the pronounciation for Greenwich England, as in "Greenwich Mean Time". The home had no waterfront side. It's about 9 miles to the Long Island Sound.
@ThisHouse When are you coming to Texas? This time of year is great with the cooler weather. If you make it to FtWorth Thistle Hill is a great start. The Edelman-McFarland is another. I can personally point out Alice Walton current private residence
I would have- windows with the ability to keep out sound/light/have privacy, heated floors, throughout, in the bedrooms have Murphy beds, in the bathroom have heated towel racks, bidets, and a japanese soaking tub, in the kitchen have tables that are built into the wall with chairs that store with it. I would also like to be able to switch my dirty water to go into a container where it could be recycled for watering the lawn or plants... or possibly recycle the water.
@@sharonduffey I suppose it is a secret left in ashes. One can't help wondering if it may have been for insurance? Disgruntled employee. In any view, it is a loss.
I can't tell you how many great properties have been lost due to fatherless children going around and burning places down. Many times rich people pay the poors to do so.

Tragic loss of a gorgeous home. Even the outbuildings are amazing!😮

The balustrade with the circle details in the woodwork are incredible! Very modern for the times!❤
A sad ending but fabulous tale. I love your channel.
Hard to a pick a favorite room! The bathrooms are nice but I think the stairs and gallery are the best!
The oak staircase and the wife's study were my favorites. Any natural unpainted woodwork is beautiful to me. What a tragedy just as it was coming back to life.
I'm a fireplace freak so seeing a lot of fireplaces made me happy....
Goodness me, the staircase! Magnificent. I want one just like it.
OMG THE WOODWORK IS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS ❣️❣️❣️
Absolutely love the stairs!!

Everyone should have a built-in organ. The staircase is magnificent.

Gorgeous house! It was designed in a very relaxed and charming style, so unlike some of those other gargantuan Gilded Age behemoths.
He has a heart of gold. These houses are gorgeous. The gable and everything looks that it has been made by Greene & Greene. Definitely fantastic

That hand carved stair railing is quite unique. 😎
Forgot to ask: At 3:57 is that Anne of Austria hanging up on the wall above the fireplace???????
I think all the details of the manor whether slight or grand silently pulls you in leaving you astonished.

Another magnificent home !
The ante Hall is another interesting feature I'd like to add to my dream house.
The Remington bronze at the staircase stood out to me.
Very informative as always- thanks Ken❤

JUST THE GARDENS UPKEEP WOULD HAVE TRULY OVERWHELMED ME ***
In your preparation for this video, you should have checked on the pronunciation of the town of Greenwich Connecticut.
If it is pronounced any other way than "green witch", then i think they should respell their town name. I'm guessing they pronounce it in some pretentious English accent that swallows half the letters.
Yeah, it’s pronounced Gren-itch. But people can’t be expected to know how to pronounce every word in existence.

🏠 thank you! from Oklahoma City
love your channel, keep it up

Have you every thought about writing a book with all of your information about these homes?
Not one but two pool tables in the billiards room
I would have- windows with the ability to keep out sound/light/have privacy, heated floors, throughout, in the bedrooms have Murphy beds, in the bathroom have heated towel racks, bidets, and a japanese soaking tub, in the kitchen have tables that are built into the wall with chairs that store with it.

The modern one arm chaise. Anyone else notice?😮
Looking back at these mansions it seems that most of them have turned out to be white elephants .
How sad about the arson.
Yes, very sad. I'm curious if they found out who did it and the motive.
@@sharonduffey I suppose it is a secret left in ashes. One can't help wondering if it may have been for insurance? Disgruntled employee. In any view, it is a loss.

This house was designed to be people friendly. Just the way I like it. 😊
Arson...mmmmmm????
Cost of demolition high. Cost of arson, a box of matches, plus insurance payout. Not suspicious at all, these many mansion fires.
A library without books? 😳
Where do the tennis shoes come in?
Fire? Sure. Set for insurance, you think?
I wonder who would burn it down and what their motivation was.
How sad, what an amazing Arts and Crafts mansion
Has moodflood residue…I’m sure it was found not built but ok 😅
dam , empty for 59 years then up in flames ……bummer
😎😎😎😎😎
What a shame the house was destroyed by arsonists. It would have been a significant historical mansion
Someone burned the house for money! it's sad your kids sell what they get for free!
Green Witch, Connecticut!!! Do your research before you do an internet faceplant.

That was a stupid ending. What's the property ( area ) look like today??
It’s a wealthy neighbourhood
95 10 acre lots. Gated community with beautiful mansions and its own Polo field.
