The fact that Alivia was so concerned about her weight made her contact Steve, but I think a psychologist would have help to solve the problem from the root. I don’t think a personal trainer was the solution, because Steve sees health from another perspective, he focuses on the physical image instead of an actual well-being and a healthy mindset.

Yes, I don't think anything of what Steve said was wrong or not delicate enough. He seemed pretty ok considering what his job is. A therapist would definitely have been more appropriate to begin with and to change approach to food an mindset, and then if still needed going to a trainer would be an option. But first what is needed is to learn to love herself more for what her and her body's needs are, accept them and start from there.

But I think I stopped watching after I realized a lot of what was going on in her videos was going on a downward spiral of constant restrictions. And I would also like to point out how a lot of her fans are blinded to how unhealthy her mindset is because she doesnt look like Eugenia Cooney. Because she isnt "skin and bones". Society has always had a huge problem with assuming people do not have harmful eating disorders/tendencies just because they arent making them lose weight. Endnote: Please love yourselves. Stop telling yourself you arent good enough just because you did not eat exactly what was on your meal planner. You are so so beautiful and anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong.

Let’s consider Steve’s position here: 1) he is a celebrity trainer. He trains celebrities mostly for superhero roles which makes his methods purely aesthetic (symmetry) on the account of nutritional and psychological insight which takes a toll on those he tains. 2) his career is based in Hollywood so he targets specific audience, he is providing a product for appearance, not longevity and health. He is clearly successful at what he’s doing but he may not be the best match for Alivia; she needed guidance and support on her relationship with food (which is commonly attributed to mental and psychological imbalance), he had a product for her appearance.

Seeing some of the rude comments regarding her content I have to say:
It’s very easy to be harsh and judge Alivia but have you guys thought that it’s a complicated issue?? I honestly believe that she is capable of getting healthier on the other side of this. She has a lot of stuff she is struggling with like: limiting beliefs, insecurities coming from her upbringing and from comments that her family is saying to her, from media, her own coping mechanisms to deal with all of it. She seems not to be aware of it - like most of us weren’t before someone pointed it out to us. Therefore she’s trying to help herself the best way she knows how and it’s obviously not healthy and it’s obviously not working but she is trying. It’s not like she means to do harm to anyone. She struggles with self-sabotage, self-hate yet she is still trying but she just doesn’t see yet that this mental stuff is what is holding her back. I personally think that therapy would help her more than dieting. And then dieting would also be good for her. I honestly think that constructive feedback is valid here but it also takes having empathy to fully understand what is going on with her. - to write an *actual* empathetic, constructive comment. Some of these are just rude, judgmental and hateful. And saying that she is responsible for someone else’s way of eating is pointing the finger in the wrong direction. Complete lack of accountability for our own lives. What she is going through does look like an ED to me. And that is helped through therapy + diet together. She is struggling with physical sugar withdrawals, insulin spikes and lows - these are things that only a diet can fix. So like I said it’s complicated. What she is doing is a documenting of Her own journey. Not telling people how to live their lives. And If we make choices based upon someone’s TH-cam video then that is our business and our choices are our own responsibility. If you don’t like her content and you watch it then who is there to blame for it?
But at the same time I understand the concern that promoting this way of being as sth healthy is not a good influence. I get that.
All in all I think that we are all witnesses of how she takes her first steps on her recovery which is sometimes messy. And with time while taking the helpful feedback she will be able to take healthy steps to improve her life. let’s support each other instead of tearing down one another :)

I am lucky enough to have mental clarity, and since I have a high metabolism I don’t have difficulties with weight gain/loss. I enjoy watching productivity TH-cam because they inspire me to work hard and better myself. I don’t follow them blindly tho. I know how much my body can take and when it’s time to take a break. I also enjoy the glow up side because (although I love my body) I believe growth is important too, whether it’s working out for myself, getting my nails done to feel more confident or doing a face mask to relax! There's this toxic, capitalist message that unless you are being as productive as your body and mind can take without causing a breakdown then you aren't good enough. It's bullshit. Who decided the more productive you are the better you are? Sometimes the most productive thing you can do for yourself is nothing! You can exercise without a "glow up". Wearing a face mask to relax is neither productive or glow up content so you're kinda just twisting whatever you want in their to fit the narrative.

I’m sick of hearing “intermittent fasting.” You’re not going to magically gain 5lbs from eating at 8am instead of 2pm if you eat the same number of calories. It especially irks me when influencers promote eating in only a 5 hour window. Like no!

Sometimes its not about weight, its about health. Its all about hormones.
Youll be surprised to know some people who look skinny but actually have type 2 diabetes.
And as Dr. Fung said you can exercise but you cannot exercise your liver.
And its so weird, after I started IF, I started to crave whole foods. Although I do have occasional binges esp. after the Christmas holiday and days before my period. Otherwise, I want nutritious meal.
Anyway, try to research on hormones and fasting. It's like a daily maintaince for your body. Also, I have a cousin, he's thin but he has problems with his liver. so you never know when you need a cleaning/detox.
I think I saw it in dr. fung video that you never know that you have a fatty liver disease unless its in a very bad state unless you do CAT scan. (I cannot remember which video.)

But yes I saw the video and it was sad but I feel she wanted to share all of her journey even the things people don’t share. And health is not an easy topic everyone has their ideas and opinions.

I feel so sorry for Alivia. Her family and friends don’t seem to get it at all, no wonder she feels like she has to quash all her emotions.

I watched Alivia's series, did her routines and followed her mindset in 2018 when I was younger than her and it destroyed me emotionally. I felt fat, ugly, unworthy and incapable. I'm trying to rewire my mindset now.

In my opinion, she isn’t in any place to understand the affect of her videos, because even though she reached her goal, she’s still living in the mess of her own mind.
People keep mentioning that she needs to go to therapy and I agree, because in her mind, she’s just showing you her journey and she thinks she’s on the other side of her disorder, but she’s not.
I have a lot of sympathy for her. She reminds me a lot of a long-time friend that I had that seemed to struggled a lot with this kind of disordered eating. If my friend had lost weight, she would’ve thought she was “better” too, because that’s all she could focus on. In her mind, she was worthless unless she was skinny. Alivia seems to be convincing herself that it’s not all about weight, but I would be willing to bet it all and say that in the depth of her mind (if she was completely honest with herself), it is. That’s the issue. Her mind still isn’t right. Her body got “better”, but her mind didn’t. Her mind figured out how to beat itself up enough to be “happy” with skinny habits, so that Alivia could convince herself that she too was happy.
I don’t know if that makes sense, but it’s how I feel. I really feel terrible for her. She does need help and I don’t think all this backlash is helping, because now she feels guilty about her journey, when her journey is so like so many others. She’s just in the middle of it, not the end, where she thinks she is.

The loudest voice in her head is telling her:
      1. She is worthless unless she is skinny
      2. Any amount of pain and discomfort is worth it, for the glow up
The loudest voice *not* inside her head, aka her family, are basically telling her the same thing.
Look at how her dad shamed her for wanting a microwave mug cake.
Therapy is the only way she is going to climb out of this morass of self-hatred.
And even then, it's going to be uphill.

I know this is NOT directly related, but as a parent I sometimes struggle with my young children on how to address food in a healthy/neutral manner. Esp for different age groups. Would you do a video series on this? I would think the needs of a preschool group would be different than that of a teenage group... If she's already done this, let me know, other fans!

I definitely think this would be a great video or even a great mini-series. My mom was always so encouraging of me to try new foods because she didn't want me to grow up picky like she did. I never had problems eating vegetables or fruit, or really anything. As I got older and went through high school and even into college, she became more critical of what I ate or if I looked like I had gained weight. Even recently, as I've moved away she still comments on how I eat or if I mention having had alcohol, assuming I've gone down this rabbit hole of not eating salads as much as I use to or that I'm drinking too much and just not eating as "healthy" as I used to, when her assumptions couldn't be farther from the truth. A bit of a ramble because this has been on my mind recently, but all that to say I do think this is a subject that could use some addressing because I know comments like this are coming out of a place of love, but as Abbey mentions in the video, the comments can have the opposite effect on children and teens, and from personal experience, they can clearly leave a mark even when the comments are made in adulthood.

Not taking away from the video Abbey made but I follow a dietitian on Instagram called kids.eat.in.color that talks a lot about feeding kids and using language that is not putting food into good or bad groups so if you want you can check her out too

This is so great! I’ve recently learned about the French method of & attitude toward nutrition. Unlike the US, French children are taught from a young age how to balance: their plates, meals throughout the day, taking a little bit of everything. They have a very holistic approach where they believe in indulgence in moderation & no restriction. They also teach kids nutrient values & there’s no such thing as “kid food” like chicken nuggets. Instead, they just eat smaller portions of nutrient rich “adult food.” This also prevents them from being picky too. It’s such a refreshing approach to eating & food, and has helped me to get rid of the extreme American diet culture that ignores balance & nutrients.

This is the man that trained gabbie Hannah.. just sayin.. I used to follow him and, while he has great workout ideas, his mentality is all based on looks and not mental AND physical health. Exercise should not be to lose a few inches on your butt, it should be the FEEL better.
