    Great explanation and comparison of your video. Your volume and speed of speech was enjoyable and kept my attention. Your comparison of the three manufacturers are the same three saws I am looking to purchase. Thanks again for a fair, accurate description and comparison.

    Make sure you don't try to stand it up, if it's just on the box and not a pallet.

    Great review, looking at this as my first bandsaw purchase. The Laguna guides turn me away and the rigidity in the upper guide system on the Jet seems by far the best.

      It was also a big deal to me not to have to pull the saw away from the wall each time I made a blade change and only the Jet and Powermatic need 45* to open the door, all the others need almost 90*

    I was torn between a Rikon or Laguna, my local woodcraft turned their nose up to Jet said you don't get as much for your money. That's not true, in fact the Laguna has cool blocks instead of roller bearing guides and it's 300 bucks to upgrade from cool blocks so you're 2 grand into a saw after buying it and getting the proper equipment on it to use it. The Rikon was nice but ultimately came to service after the sale and I live near a local jet dealer so it was the best way to go. Price is pretty much the same across all 3

    Bought the 2022 version of this saw...no need for allen keys - top and bottom barrings are all on cams. No need to remove table to change blade.

    • @MSRWorkshop

      So are you saying all the bearings are ajustable or just the side bearings with cams?

    Great review, I chose this saw because of your video.
    I put together my saw yesterday and found that when I have use the tension lever it’s kind of rough and doesn’t travel smooth if there is tension on the blade. Also are you supposed to lock the tension lever all the way down?
    It’s my first real bandsaw and I am not familiar with all the features. The manual does not address the tension lever.
    Mahalo

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure I totally understand what you are saying but from what gathered, yes the lever is pulled down to add tension or pushed up to release tension when not in use. The wheel on top is turned to add additional tension if needed. Once a blade is installed you don’t need to adjust that one unless you install a different size blade. With the tension lever in the up position there should be no tension and the blade can be removed easily. Removing tension when not in use can also prong your blade life by removing the constant stress from being tight.
      Hope this helps :)

      @mackeymalanilegend1454 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your helpful advice.
      I’m still having an issue though, I have a 3/8 blade on it and after adjusting the tension when I pull the lever to lock it down it’s like the lever is grinding and it will not lock all the way down without substantial force. Is this normal or is there a way to adjust the tension lever to make it more smooth

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This doesn’t sound normal to me. There is a cam inside that is applying tension. There might be some metal shavings in it. I would unbolt the top wheel and it will give you easy access to inspect it

    I just bought this saw and my initial impression as a 30 year mechanic, not a novice wood worker, is somewhat disappointing. The handles are cheap plastic and do not move smoothly, especially the blade guard mechanism. It's not too bad but for about the same price I could have had a Harvey which is much nicer (I'm in Alaska and they wanted $1000 to ship it from CA - deal breaker)

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree 100% and I have looked for ways to upgrade the handles. I feel that a cast handle would make raising and lowering much easier.
      You can get them on eBay but I do wish that they were included on the saw

    The one thing you didn't talk about is the ac plug on the back, does it come on with the saw or always on? I would like my work light and dust collector to come on with the saw.

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, thanks for mentioning it. From what I’ve herd it’s always on. I haven’t used it but it that’s a problem it could easily be remedied with a light that has a switch, but it won’t be an automatic thing

    Two years down the road.... would you buy one of these, especially if you want to do serious resaw-ing to feed your laser works and build band-saw boxes?

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are things I really like about it like the dust collection and there are quarks about it I don’t.
      I like the dust collection and the fact that the doors don’t have to open all the way to change a blade or they come off easily. I love the looks.
      Things I don’t like is the tracking system. It’s really finicky. Had some issues where the upper wheel wasn’t balanced well so I added weights and I replaced the tires upper and lower to perform better.
      If money wasn’t an option I’d buy a Powermatic hands down.
      I have owned 2 rikons and both have been excellent. I wanted to try the jet. That being said between Rikon, laguna, Jet, I would probably get another Rikon. They have excellent customer service and their machines work well…… not the best looking… just an opinion.

    • @VitalityMassage

      @@MSRWorkshop Your opinion seems to coincide with the ratings for the Rikon vs Jet on Amazon. The Rikon gets a 4.8 from 43 reviews and the Jet gets 4.4 from 157 reviews. I think more people trust the Jet due to the name and like the looks etc. The Jet weighs 272 lbs vs the Rikon at 215. I wonder what the big diff is there? The Jet has a longer blade and slightly bigger motor.

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@VitalityMassage probably the slightly bigger table and a bit more metal in things like the doors and the motor. Over all it translates into a more stable machine.

      @@MSRWorkshop I just found the Rikon 326 (vs 324) which is probably more similar to the Jet. Thanks for your reply.

  • @GeeDeeBird

    Two years later, would you get this saw over the Rikon 10-326?

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well…. Not sure. Since I don’t often change blades and keep it with a small 1/8 blade. I have it set up for that and it works well for that. If I did resawing or another demanding job I’m not sure. The fence on the Rikon is definitely better. The dust collection on the jet is better and the blade changes are easier. There are definite pros and cons to both

  • @lmallard3788
    @lmallard3788 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Between this and the powermatic, which one do you like the best?

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Powermatic hands down. I’ve used Rikon laguna, Delta, and smaller powermatic’s and I think this is probably the best bandsaw you can buy. Everything is over built on the powermatic, and there are virtually no plastic parts.
      The saw weighs almost 900 pounds and is almost double that almost every other saw on the market, including saws that are much bigger. If you ever get to see one in person, they are just on another level, especially with fit and finish. Yes the salt is a premium price but this is something definitely you get what you pay for

    • @lmallard3788
      @lmallard3788 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish powermatic had a 14 inch saw like this jet saw that has no need for installing a 6 inch block, to get same resaw capability as this jet saw

    I'm finding my tracking with this bandsaw to be quite finicky ......I think I have it all set and in the middle of cutting a bandsaw box.......boing!...... the blade has tracked right off the top wheel. Has anyone else had this consistent problem. If so, do you have a fix? Love the dust collection on this saw.....but the blade tracking so far has been a real issue.

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have that problem to with small blades. I got the Carter stabilizer for the rear of the blade and then the blade is tracked to it runs in the bearing groove so it can’t wander off

    I tried to buy a stabilizer guide for this saw and Carter doesn’t have one that will fit. I ordered one and shaft that holds the guide is too short. They sent one that was for a Powermatic. It plain didn’t work. I hope they make one for it now. The cocentric adjustable bearing on top move out of alignment with least bit of pressure. Jet sent me new ones but I haven’t installed the new ones yet. These guides on this bandsaw are constantly moving on the top and bottom and I can’t keep them adjusted. I have broken at least 4 blades trying to cut circles and straight cuts with this saw. Maybe Carter can make some better guides for this saw. Any help on this would be appreciated. I call Jet and they are clueless.

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You actually have to call Carter for the correct guides. It’s not listed on the website but they know the saw. You have to order 2 parts and they can give you the part numbers of the correct guide. I don’t love the jet eccentric hole that the guides run in but hopefully JET can fix it in the future then it would be a pretty simple upgrade. I e even thought about making my own out of an aluminum block, but so far the one on the saw is working.
