    Awesome. I the organized structured way you explained the impact of open end. Can you show a video about the differences among the different scheduling levels.

      Yes I'll add it to my list. I worked on a LRT training and they had it all nicely broken down depending who was using the information, from politician high level, to forepersons, super detailed.

      Yes Walther always nice to have more depth and breadth in learning. I plan to start providing more lectures on print reading.

    Hi Tom, I am doing a project with a 5 storey apartment building. on each floor there are 14 apartment units of varying type ranging from Studio units, 1-bedroom to 2-bedroom units. The WBS is repetative but how best do you suggest that i do a project schedule for the Internal build-out by units. So for instant, there's a limitation with the Kitchen Cabinetry & bathroom vanity Installation crew so i can only do one unit per day. What suggestion do you have for a smooth flow of this project expecially to report on the finish and handover by apartment

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you are into Bottleneck laws, one is remove it by getting extra install crews, the other unfortunately is slow the other work in the sequence so they don’t leave and not come back when you need them. Unless there is an opportunity to adjust sequncing, which im guessing there is not.

    Hi Tom. Thanks for creating these informative videos. How would you modify and run the schedule if you had a few hard deadlines during the project that should drive when many other tasks occur? "Occur no later than" constraints? Backwards dependencies?

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Difficult to answer exactly without all the parameters. Generally i make an effort to avoid constraints where possible. There is a way to indicate a deadline without an actual constraint . Ill do that in another video. Its in the task information advanced tab. It just shows the deadline as a diamond shape when your activity goes beyond the deadline date. But it does not stop the cpm.

    Hi Tom. Many thanks. it is very halpful. I am interested if you have to develpp plan for several floor project, it is better to suborginize plan according to work types or floors... what warks better in practise when the project is too complex ?

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shota
      Usually by floors and within floors by zones is best in those cases. I hope that helps

    Hi Tom Stephenson, Just finished watching you video on Schedules, it excellent and is really helpful. I understand that you are making it from the user's perspective. And that makes all the difference. I have doubt. You said to categorise each segment of work. Eg: all plumbing has to go together. If rough in plumbing comes first and then there is a gap for plastering the wall and for tile works etc, and later comes toilet fixtures, tap fittings etc. Here plumbing comes in 2 steps separated by about 3 weeks. What is your suggestion in such cases? mark Rough in Plumbing as one heading and toilet fixtures as another? Or is there a better way?

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Benoy, yes absolutely, break the a activities into names that represent how you do the work. I just kept it simple in the example. If you need to create a lag to hold them apart you can do that as well. Im glad the videos help

    I’m not very used to adding successor but predecessor. I’m thinking that if we are linking the task using predecessor which creates logical steps and gives us ability to see the flow in the gantt chart, do we really need to add successors?
    For example, if I want 9 and 10 to come after 4, I could have just added 4 as predecessor for both and don’t have to add 9,10 as successor for 4.

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You don’t need to think about having to add a successor rather I would make sure everything has a successor except the last or latest activity. And it is very possible for everything to have a predecessor but be missing successors. If one that you miss is connected it can easily change your critical path.
      Thanks for the question

    Hi Tom I have a question. Where should you put your start and finish dates for your tasks if not on the start and finish columns? I see that if you start making updates on the start and finish columns you get constraints.

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m assuming for if they are done, then put them on actual start and actual finish this is found under the tracking table.

    If I have a bunch of tasks on the Critical path , does it mean that I need to finish them first or is it to keep an eye on it.

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rajesh, it means if a task is on the critical path and it takes longer the project will take longer, yes you need to watch them closely, also if an activity is near the critical path it could use its float and become critical

    Thanks Tom,
    I have a question about constraints :
    What if there is a critical task we really need to advance in the future (eg : 5/13 -> 25/5) but don't want it to bear a constraint but instead we want the project behind it to advance as well (actual project start would be advanced).
    Is it possible? If so, is it a good way of working ?
    Thanks

    are there big differences in how you would manage a software implementation project vs a construction project?

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Beppe, Yes there are quite a few differences, for one on the construction execution you can see what is done so it is easier to measure. Software uses agile and scrum mostly though scrum and kanban is catching on in construction for good reason. With that said there are also a lot of similarities.

    Hey Tom love your content but in all honesty , is there a way you could do a step by step video? I love the way you explain everything in the video but i feel you get off topic.

    • @TomStephensontraining

      Hi Abraham, check on my channel the msproject beginners playlist. Click on my face should bring you to channel and then select playlist. I try to limit the activities and resources so you can create and follow along in that series. Start at one and move through them.
      Thanks for the feedback!
