@ 19:30 That pic of Robbie Lawler saving Ben Askren from that burning building is the most heroic thing I’ve ever seen. And he even pretended to be asleep when the ref showed up so Ben could win. Helluva guy
Mike Perry is cashing in and becoming know as the "Bare knuckle King".... What an amazing turn around for a guy who for while looked like a typical Florida man about to hit rock bottom. I hope he cashes in and gets out before the damage piles up.
Yeah but he’s not really the best . He’s not bad either, I just think he’s similar to bk boxing and that promotion as like Conor was to the ufc, and he brings eyeballs to that sport and promotion with his personality and the way he fights, even if there’s guys who would dog him in there at least on points.
100% agree with you on the DJ segment. People say that his strength of schedule is not that great, but that's a ridiculous claim. Remove DJ from that division and we would have had at least 3 or 4 different great fighters as champs. The only reason they didn't look like world beaters is the fact that they fought DJ. DJ was so good that he made elite fighters look like children.
History with Weasel better be a recurring segment, love hearing him speak about it with such passion. Japanese history is so interesting, loved hearing him chat about the likes of Musashi
I almost feel like DJ was ahead of his time. Even tho long time fans know how long he’s been around, it’s almost as if the sport didn’t have as much respect and appreciation surrounding it back when he was the FW king. Without a doubt one of the goats
It depends on what you value as a fan. Lot of fans literally can't understand how good DJ is and he's also so fast. I have tried watching his fight with Henry and halfway through I'm overloaded with how much action takes place over 10-15 minutes much less the full 25. I'm not saying it's a skill issue butbit might be 😭😂
@TheWeasleMMA He was the boogeyman to the Romans. Can’t believe he took like 37 elephants up into the alps and losing many men and battling the Gauls along the way. He is my personal favourite.
my dream card is: GSP vs Robert Whittaker (Middleweight) Daniel Cormier vs Cain Velasquez Charles Oliveira vs Brian Ortega (lightweight) Justin Gaethje vs Robbie Lawler (165) Gilbert Burns vs Michael Chandler (Welterweight)
Idk about a particular number, I think it needs to make sense, both in the division and in the division they move to in order to try and accomplish that. For volk regardless of the amount of defenses he had, most of those were against the same guy, it worked for that Div because you have a max Holloway who is literally stopping contenders in their tracks and giving volk little options to defend. It also made sense because in the division above you had a new champion in islam who took out Charles, and Charles had taken out every other legit title contender during his reign, and those title contenders and top guys all had multiple shots themselves at the title and so it was just the perfect time. You could argue it screwed over Benny, but tbf Benny ended up losing two in a row recently so in hindsight he wasn’t ready yet anyway despite the win streak. I think if the actual super fight makes sense, and the division is in a tricky spot contender wise or the champ has lapped them all and the division above isn’t full of multiple guys ready and deserving of title fights or top contender fights like ww currently is then the number of defenses don’t matter imo.
I love the Bakumatsu period in Japan. The last hurrah of the dying Samurai way of life, the Shinsengumi running around in Kyoto fighting reformation Assassins. So many great movies, books, and of course anime come out of that period. Musashi is of course phenomenal. If you can dig manga at all, please read “Vagabond.” It’s like a biography of Musashi w/ Five Rings philosophy set to some of the most gorgeous line and watercolor paint work you’ve ever seen. So good.
I 10000% agree about the champ champ status. Especially the “if a fighter can’t cut the weight anymore, vacate the belt” cause the fighter getting on the scale is the biggest risk for the UFC
Regarding the Askren situation : Ben had a solid run before being in the UFC and was out of his prime from hip issue. The other issue is I don’t think the UFC set him up to lose against masvidal if anything it was the opposite. When you look at Masvidals style especially at the time you would assume masvidal would get wrestle fucked for the whole fight. Masvidals stock skyrocketed but he was not particularly liked or favored by the UFC until the KO.

@TheWeasle you could become a sports psychologist bro, probably a lot of money in that if you're good at it. Ngl I despise the Dagestani champion. They don't defend often enough. Islam avoids this criticism but at the same time both his defenses were against a 45er. Tired of the 155 strap not being defensed properly. It's been nearly a decade...
Volks is not just a 145er, he walks around 180+, and he's incredibly strong.
Islam is the best 145 pound defending champ at LW.
He avoids the criticism bc nobody is slow like u...
@@zoheir1162still a 145er
@@aaronrubalcava7810 Makhachev run through his opponents without any resistance, volks had an answer for everything until he got caught,
He was much higher on the p4p list, with a long win streak, and considered to be the highest iq striker in the ufc.
Admit it, you're just a hater.
