Excited to see the evolution!
Then strikers get OP and ppl are more willing to grapple. It comes in cycles. It's always been that way. Right now you got BOTH metas.... Dagestani type grappling and high level kickboxing. Do interim champs get PPV points? I'd get it if it was Jones at LH and he was out but he's not defended the belt at HW. Vacate or just make the interim a glorified number 1 contender

Jones isnt gonna fight anyone exept maybe old man stipe if he doesnt retire before that. He wouldnt take that risk to fight aspinall, he knows he probably would loose and jon only cares about his legacy now he isnt gonna let that happen
Luckily jones ego could make him take the fight than be called a coward for ducking yet another HW that will beat him. I hope jones does go to prove he can take aspinal. Tho tom likely mops the floor with jones..i still would like to see Ngannou vs aspinal and jones tho..see them all take a nap
@@Askadaa14vi Before the fake interim belt fight, Stipe was ranked 2 after Jones. Tom doesnt leap to number 2 just because he beats number 3 in Pavlovich, he jumps to number 3. Why would Jones fight anyone but the number 2? Tom has to wait & earn that shot, he can fight the winner
Francis wouldn't be champion with Jones and Aspinall. Those guys would have to avoid the big one punch obviously so there is always a chance but they are way too skilled on the feet for Francis. After that, they would run circles around Francis, out point, out last, and win in 5 rounds. Francis was smart leaving on top and making most of his leverage. Good for him.
@@billfountain7660 but are we saying that Tom or Pavlovich knocking out people > Derrick Lewis knocking out people ? we didn't think that back then when Ngannou was there did we ????
Even since the 3rd fight, I always wondered why no MMA content has made the comparison between the 4 fight rivalry of Adesanya vs Pereira and that of Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manual Marquez. The competitive nature of the first 3 with the finality of a fourth fight knocked out cold by the fighter who has never won is just chillingly similar. Can you talk about this at some point?
I think Tom Apsinall's speed might give Ngannou some problems but I think that is the toughest fight for both guys. I feel that Aspinall is a supersized Stipe. Stipe was a decently well-rounded heavyweight and I think Aspinall is a larger version of him who also kicks. The only other reason I give Apsinall a chance is the fact that he was able to take a flush punch from Sergei Pavlovich, meaning he may be able to withstand Ngannou. then again Ngannou is just built differently. he is a lean 270-man. the only other dude in history that could possibly be badder is Alexander Kerelian if he did MMA instead of wrestling.
@@imcgonigle2006Well he beat Cyril already even with an injured knee. Ngannou has always been underestimated and will always be but he will keep shocking the world.
No one has been able to kick Jon Jones's legs consistently or with any authority because of Jon's long arm counters. Jon has mastered his defense in that regard. Assuming Aspinal would have success kicking Jon's legs is foolish and would be very risky and dangerous for Aspinal.
Who jones has fight who was 6’5 260lbs with jiujitsu black belt? Noone, at 205 he usually had big reach advantage. He would get finished by aspinall and he knows it thats why jon isnt gonna fight him. If he was as sure as you why wouldnt he take that fight? Because he isnt, he knows the reality. Jones will only fight old man stipe and retire, cause he dont want that loss to his legacy
Shitty take, Jon Jones is pillow fisted and looked terribly slow on the feet against Gane. Jon Jones only route to victory is he prays that he gets Aspinall down immediately or else he’s done for.
I'm a big fan of Cyril Gane, but I doubt he gets the next title shot. He pretty much shot himself in the foot refusing the fight with Aspinall before. I'm expecting he will fight Almeida, and the winner of that fight will get the next title shot. Although I think Aspinall vs Gane in London or Paris or some other big European city would sick. That would be the "Battle for Europe" that Blachowicz was talking about when he was calling out fight Jiri.
I really think Tom could take Jones and he wants that fight to test himself and I wanna see it! Stipe deserves that fight but I hope Jones goes for one more fight after
It’s crazy to realize jones the goat, and stipe the heavyweight goat are both more than likely on the final page of their chapters. What a glorious spectacle.
@@giorgiochiodini5773Jones fake injury is also a great way for him to come back on heavy juice, USADA is getting replaced with the company "testing" the NFL walking pharmacies, and never catching them 🤣
If jones tries to strike with aspinall he's probably getting flatlined, he looked slow as hell against gane on the feet (he's always been a slow guy on the feet), it would _not_ be a good idea for him to try to land punches to aspinall's body to tire him out, aspinall would probably catch him and drop him.
Are you really gonna let Ciryl Gane get 3 title shots in 2 years? Idk man. And let’s be honest he’s going to lose to Aspinall and be 0-3 in title fights.
Francis being ranked is a way for the WBC to save face considering he whooped their Champion. Really happy for Francis all the same, Dana must turn red everytime he sees Francis headlines.
The way Pereira moved away from the straight from Jiri leaves some to be desired. But the most important improvement is his grappling defense, I'd argue its just as goood as Jizzy's. The 5th and final fight (2nd in mma) has to happen.
Protesting and practicing civil disobedience is an American right. It’s one of the most important freedoms we have in this country. With that, like all things, there will always be those who take things too far. These protests are important and should be at least tolerated if not respected
@FlakBoxing ok hold on. You asked me what made me think otherwise, as in why Pereira won’t be able to run through the entire division. I answered with Ankalaev. Sounds like your the one who can’t read.
@FlakBoxing don’t matter if he beat “2 of the 3.” He didn’t beat the third did he? That’s the most irrelevant way to address something Iv ever seen. Good job trying though.
Jiri didn't wrestle more because these guys feel like they have something to prove against top of the line strikers. Same reason why Izzy never has had to grapple much. And same reason why Jamal will stand with him.
Yeah but tom hits incredibly hard and can grapple incredibly well while weighing more and when it was in the feet jones was losing so do with that as you will
@@SantiagoacphYou are comparing mixing prime Jones with older Jones. Aspinal is facing older Jones. And he will destroy older Jones. It’s not even up for debate.
Lyoto caught Jones early, if that's Aspinall, that's a whole different level of impact. Aspinall also has the ground game to consider where Lyoto didn't.
@@jakelongstaff4102 exactly, I can't believe the logic of some people, how on earth do they make this conclusion because of machida fight. Machida was good, but he's a middleweight karate guy like holy crap people shut the hell up. Stupid mma fans. The dumbest fan base I think
Absolutely correct. Jones should have lost 3 rounds to Gustaffson and also Reyes. He should have those two losses. The bad judges in MMA are the only reason Jones is undefeated.
Jones is pretty much awful at striking. And he is not a fast fighter. He's a very tough guy and has the best chin in MMA history, equal to Ngannou. Jones uses the Tony Ferguson approach, and it's not athleticism, it's his toughness and grittiness that wins him his fights. Being gritty is not enough for Aspinall. Aspinall could put down a rhino with those punches he landed on Sergei. Nobody has even remotely hurt Sergei with multiple punches. Blaydes landed several full power shots on Sergei and Sergei didn't even notice. Aspinall's power is almost Ngannou power. Of course nobody beats a Ngannou punch.
Can’t really get over the fact Periera was handed favorable handout matches all the way up to both belts though. If he had to go through the ranking like he normally should have he might not have ever made it to both title fights. There’s plenty of contenders who probably favor up well with the current champ but can’t make it there cause of the unfavorable contender fights.
I'm English and by no means do I believe Tom would smoke Jones with ease like some have been saying but it's a 50-50 fight in my opinion and one I doubt Jones takes. Not because he's scared of Tom but perhaps scared of losing. Jon Jones is the Floyd Mayweather of MMA IMO. He didn't cherry-pick quite like Floyd but he certainly won't go in the cage with anyone at anytime like some fighters.
He cleaned his entire division out for how long though? I dunno. He wiped the floor with Gane after how long out of competition? Dude maybe took the smart approach to some fights but he whipped nearly every contender without a lot of trouble for so long it's not really fair to say he avoided fights. Just because some guys tested him or maybe edged him just slightly on points (in at least the minds of many, though not the judges)...don't see him avoiding fights. Rematches maybe but we saw how he worked Gus in the second fight. Reyes wouldn't have stood a chance if they rematched. Not saying Aspinall can't do it...but I can't agree that Jones avoids or pick fights to a degree Mayweather's done. Seems disingenuous to me.
@@holycommunists9159Gane threw the fight. Sorry to disappoint you. So Jones still hasn’t been tested In the Heavyweight division yet. But Gane deserves an Oscar for that performance.
@@Abdullah-tj9rz Thats what I believe. Because If his ground game is that bad, then he will struggle In that division. Because Jones is not the only grappler and wrestler he will face. I know that he became nr 1 contender by just fighting strikers.
I watched a lot of Pereira kickboxing matches. He looks so much better. He refined his style and working with the man the myth the legend Glover, he will keep getting better until that speed goes away
I think what Chael means, and he even tried to explain, is that even on day 1, Alex could’ve fought Izzy or Jan or Jiri and could’ve won. Izzy only did well against Alex was because of the awkward takedown that ALEX himself went for and get reversed. That, and Izzy had good wrist control. Other than that, Alex was stuffing Izzy takedowns in the first fight and was doing good in his debut and against Bruno Silva, takedown stuffing and getting back up.
How is everyone forgetting about Ciryl Gane? Former champ that actually moves faster than Aspinall. Ciryl Gane needs that title shot so he can show him that French Power and stop the hype train!
@@YeaggghurteInteresting that you say he has no knockout power. 6 knockouts on his record including Tai Tuivasa and Sergei I think we need to chill on this Tom Aspinall hype. Looking at his record it looks like he got knocked out by some guy named Curtis Blades so I question his chin at the heavyweight level. He also got submitted by some guy not even in the UFC so his ground probably isn't too good either. This is the first time I've seen him fight but he did look good for the minute or so the fight lasted.
@@sandman62100dude there is no question about aspinals chin when he took a clean shot from Pavlovich in his last fight and ate it like breakfast. You have no idea what your talking about
Weasle, the Ngannou glazing needs to stop. He has a good chance of clipping Aspinall, of course, but he's nowhere near as fast as Aspinal and there's no evidence to suggest that he could defend against Aspinall's grappling. Also, styles make fights. Pavlovich, for example, will have more success against Ngannou than he did against Aspinall. Ngannou with his power and awkward style had a close fight (which he lost if you know how to score boxing) with a massively overrated Tyson Fury who was at his career heaviest, who isn't a big puncher and severely underestimated Ngannou.

I believe there is going to be a wrestling arms race where all the top contenders will develop excellent wrestling/anti-wrestling & it will almost cancel out the ground game. Excited to see the evolution!
Intreresting take. It does seem like it going that way.
Then strikers get OP and ppl are more willing to grapple. It comes in cycles. It's always been that way. Right now you got BOTH metas.... Dagestani type grappling and high level kickboxing. And the ppl coming up now are starting OUT by training in everything. My son started at 9 and he already has 3 years of bjj and muay thai experience and 2 years of wrestling. I’ve always wanted Interim champions to defend more, interims have been glorified number 1 contenders, when the champ get injured that they need a good amount of time to recover, that’s when they should come in.
Do interim champs get PPV points? I don't get what the incentive is for them to defend it (if they don't get the points , I genuinely don't know) unless the division has a long standing champion who will be out for a year+. I'd get it if it was Jones at LH and he was out but he's not defended the belt at HW. Vacate or just make the interim a glorified number 1 contender

Because most mma fans probably haven’t even heard of Marquez and don’t care

No one has been able to kick Jon Jones's legs consistently or with any authority because of Jon's long arm counters. Jon has mastered his defense in that regard. Assuming Aspinal would have success kicking Jon's legs is foolish and would be very risky and dangerous for Aspinal.

Izzy only did well against Alex was because of the awkward takedown that ALEX himself went for and get reversed. That, and Izzy had good wrist control.
