    It really works !! I just did it just make sure ur silicon is 100% silicone coz otherwise it will just be goopy and grows . But yea it's really smart! And make syre u keep dipping ur hands in the soap and water coz it will stick I recommend every 30 seconds dip ur hand in soap and water.

  • @laurapalmer3403
    @laurapalmer3403 9 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I love this way of making molds, but need a bit more information before i try it...
    How many ounces of water and soap did you use? Also, did you use tap water and a specific brand of soap? Thanks !

    • @olgateway
      @olgateway 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is not a precise science. The water volume doesn't matter as it is not absorbed, the soap amount doesn't matter, it is there for the chemical reaction and to make things lubricated. Have fun!

    • @cheeseinc2545
      @cheeseinc2545 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      olgateway One little thing to note is that silicone caulk makes acetic acid vapors after curing, so either work outside, in a ventilated area, or just brace yourself. It isn’t toxic, but it makes your nose sting.

    I have tried it and it was super fun but messy. :P I used a clear silicone so I could see through the mold because that is what I needed for the project I had in mind. It worked out really well. :)

      Maki Garza The one I used didn't smell like vinegar to me but it didn't really smell great either. It has been about a year since I made it and it doesn't smell like anything now. I just went to the hardware department of a local store and looked for clear silicone.

      sunny s. He used the wrong soap in this video! I have no idea how he made it work, but you’re really supposed to use the blue dawn dish soap! You have to use it with 100%silicone type 1! In all the entire project will cost about $6 to $8!

    • @merryclicker
      @merryclicker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually partly that but the glycerin in the soap helps the silicone cure faster. Just silicone alone would harden to a slightly flexible state in 24-72 hours, like around the bathtub. It wouldn't be as flexible though.

    • @nielsen_
      @nielsen_ 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      i just followed the steps and it worked for me, the reason it doesn't work for you may be the proportion of soap or the type of silicone. The consistency of mine was really loose and soft but definitely manageable so i don't really know 😞. Anyways, have you covered your hands in soap before manipulating the silicone?

    Is there a measurement for the soap like one part soap to 3 parts of water or just pour soap until the silicone is manageable?!

    Q: DOESN'T IT SMELL??? i tried making this but the damn silicone thing smells awful made my nose hurt, the whole house smelled like vinegar the whole day. Or did i get the wrong type of silicone?

    • @GreydeDeuil
      @GreydeDeuil 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats just the way silicone smells, it will fade once its cured.

    • @abbiegroves2921
      @abbiegroves2921 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ikizagirl same but my silicone didn't stop smelling after it was cured

    • @giacommetti72
      @giacommetti72 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The silicone MUST be ACETIC acid cure, as the soap (glycerin) washes out the retardant in the silicone to make it cure faster. It will smell strongly of Vinegar , which is acetic acid in a dilute form. Other silicones are chemically based and will not work with this method of soap and water washing. Knead the silicone thoroughly with wet hands.

    Sticky like hell on hand without soap water Dosen't matter how much dishwasher soap is in the water, starch version is much less sticky.

    I am creating a Star wars Clone Trooper helmet, and wanted to know whether or not using silicone putty would be a good choice or not, as this would be my first time taking a shot at it. Any ideas?

    • @arathduiliath9074
      @arathduiliath9074 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silicone putty itself isn't a good means for a helmet unless you mean to cast a mold. Either order 2 part silicone online in a large quantity to mold a sculpted form of the helmet then rotocast it with resin (look it up), try the same with tubes of silicone but mix in paint thinner (acetone works fine) and a little cornstarch to imitate 2-part silicone, or better yet just use foam matting with contact cement to make the helmet. You're on youtube, there's tons of cosplay channels showing tutorials.

    Would these molds be safe to use with resin? This seems simple, but knowing the soap-to-water ratio would really help. Oh and also the type of soap needed.

    anyone know if you can use this method with shiny objects, so you would get a smooth, glassy effect? The usual silicone putty gives a matt effect, and my clear resin seems not to me able to cure with normal moulding silicone...
    Thanks

    This is so super cool, I can't wait to give it a try! Can you please tell me though how long you have to knead the silicone or at what point do you know it is ready to have an object pushed into it to make the mold? Wondering bc I don't want my mold to be "underdone" or sticky and never set firmly enough and not work out. Thanks so much!!

    PLease help, I bought an acrylic silicone sealant, and it wont stick with each other. It's like a toothpaste that wont be molded into a circular shape. What should I do? Should I really look for the 100% silicone? (the guy at the hardware told me that acrylic silicone sealant and 100% silicone sealant are the same)
