Momma Sue, I loved watching! Use the back of a drawer tablespoon to spread your cake batter in pan. So much better and easier than the wide plastic spatula.
My mother is 90 and she and my grandmother used to make these. She said the reason was because they worked in the cotton fields and didn't take long to cook so they could get back to work. They wanted them cooked all the way thru.

I'm surprised Miss Bernice didn't tell you you're using the wrong type of measuring cup! It's tough to measure dry ingredients in a liquid measuring cup because you can't level it off! She's really sharp--my M-I-L is her age and she's forgotten a lot about cooking and baking and is no longer interested in either. However, she still likes her sweets!
This looks so good. I would really love to make this cake but I have a question. On the video you state a half a cup of buttermilk in the cake but on the recipe it states one cup. Can you verify which is correct. Also when you were making the icing you said One cup of milk but the recipe calls for a half a cup. Please check on this so I can make it correctly. This looks delicious. I really am going to make it. I do have a question. In the video when you were mixing the cake you only used 1/2 cup buttermilk but when I looked at the recipe it states 1 cup of buttermilk. Confirm which it should be. Thank you. I love watching you.
