It's funny how the archives/evidence room went from like a whole wing of the police department to two tiny measly rooms in the full game.
The leak happened around 2012/2013 so modders take care for about 10 years now and not 20. Still impressive that a fanbase puts so much more dedication into such a series than the official devs.

@@FIREDAN075 RE2R was pretty badass. Even RE3R was still nice except being a compilation of missed opportunities. In my personal opinion RESIDENT EVIL as a series consists of three games which make a perfect trilogy: RE1, 2, 3: Nemesis. Code: Veronica is were the story started to go off the rails. Zero's story was terrible. RE4, 5, 6, 7, Village all don't feel like playing in the same universe as the og trilogy. I got RE4 on my birthday back then and it pissed me off so much that it took me over 15 years to play it again :D
Don't get me wrong. It's a pretty badass game but besides the title and some character names it wasn't connected to the same universe. If Capcom had changed the title and the character names, no one ever would have recognized this game with RESIDENT EVIL.
But my main point was, that there are more shitty RE entries out there than good ones. RE4R looks fantastic for what I've seen until now. I'm definitely going to play this. What I meant with dedication is the following: the community offers modders that put over 10 years of work into an unfinished product that it's getting obvious. Capcom wants to make money and has deadlines. That's totally fine. But working 10 years+ on a non profit game is dedication at its finest. Don't you agree?

@@parastroika2393 Yeah, I think I need to rephrase my point. It's like the fan base is more dedicated towards a franchise than the lisense holders or owners. The writing changed after Nemesis for PS1 and totally flipped since RE4. I miss the consistency in story telling. 1-3 fit perfectly together. After those titles the previously world building was completely ignored in the writing process. At least that's how I feel about the franchise.

NO REMAKES. Make a new game, with old chars, and new chars, and old RE engines. It's like owning a vintage car, these games have appeal because they were made with OLDER ENGINES. New graphics just push gore, and don't give a crap about originality.

Too bad they havent gotten the model clipping fixed.. everything looks great, but that bothers me visually to see the model not blocked by its surroundings.
2 remake sewer def had some of these 1.5 sewer vibes also would be sick too see a "black mirror" set up type show where every episode shows a diff character from all the notes u see in all the games maybe end the episode with them writing the note an flash foward too what ever character finds it in the games that would be pretty sick

I Feel the perfect Classic RE2 to me at least would be a mix of the retail with 1.5 like in some place's like how the zombie's look the sounds of the zombie's the Police station and some of the monster's that were cut and no not the gorilla's but yeah like a perfect mix of the two making the best version of RE2 at least to me cause I like a lot of thing's that were in this version of RE2 over some of the stuff we got in Retail RE2

The final version of RE2 is a masterpiece. But I remember as a kid I would surf the web looking up as much info I can on RE 1.5, its awesome to see modders are trying to finish it.
I'd be curious to see if they would be willing to 'finish' these projects. Even if it wasn't in the original style, a modern RE Engine version would be cool to see. Label it under a series of 'what ifs' perhaps.
I would like to see it finished in its original version, for those of us seeing the images in magazines and demos back in ‘97 would like to see where Capcom would have ended the series since it would only have been 1 & 2

The final RE2 was definitely rushed! They forgot all the restrooms and showers.
The only issue with RE2. Feels rushed after you exit the RPD, sewers sections and lab have no puzzles, no exploration, just kill and run. Glad the Remake solved this

Edit: In regards to Chris and action, the biggest reason I went from RE1 to RE5 and was fine with it was cuz it was fun. That's all I needed. Also it is hard to imagine the original characters having to struggle so much with the original zombies.

Ruger Super Redhawk is an 8 inch .44 mag. Not stronger than a shotgun but significantly more powerful than .357 mag. Nice touch!

On Resident Evil being scary:
I do think that this is at least part of the appeal of the franchise. I mean, it doesn't have to be terrifying from a psychological standpoint or anything, but I think it should at least be tense and mildly unsettling, which most of the games are. It just goes well with the "survival" aspect of the game, a key component of Resident Evil's success has been that the limited amount of ammo and healing items works well with the tense atmosphere of the game to help keep you on edge. As for the characters, I don't think it's vital for them to be scared within the context of the story to create this kind of atmosphere. If you compare Rev1 for example, that's still a pretty creepy game despite the fact that Jill is quite badass by that point in the story, it's more related to things like lighting and environment design, game mechanics and pacing than the story.
Oh, and I do want Rev3 focusing on Chris and Hound Wolf Squad's battle against the BSAA. It is fine if this game is somewhat actiony but it had better have raid mode with the whole Hound Wolf Squad playable!

2:35:15 That was my mine problem with people who whined about Dead Space 3 not being scary, it wasn't really supposed to be since Isaac is too used to Necromorphs and what the Marker's can do to mess with your head.
The Co-op is where a lot of The horror stuff remains since Carter hasn't had previous experience with the Markers so that player will see or hear things the other player can't, but even then he is also a seasoned soldier whi has been established to have dealt with pretty horrific crap and isn't some civilian like Isaac was.
It kind of also annoys me how people act like the stuff in 3 came out of nowhere similar crap was already happening, 1 despite being horror still had to have a 2000s turret sequence that was mainly in action games, and 2 was launching Isaac sometimes literally into an over the top action set piece.

A good 80% of what you see here is from the original source. The modders only use their own made up content to bridge the gaps of an unfinished game to make it playable. The modder's made up rooms are based on screenshots and concept art that never made it into the game. The cutscenes and story beats, with few exceptions, are largely the modders own creation. The rest is just bug fixes.

They should just make elza an official character. I have never seen elza walker and thought "oh it's beta Claire" I've always seen her as her own distinct character. She has a really cool name, completely distinct look from Claire, and even has a different background being an actual motorcycle racer instead of Claire just happening to be someone that likes motorcycles and rode one for about 30 seconds in cutscenes once. I see no reason to ever think these are the same character.

IMO the start should be a bit better, maybe they should have the character start from somewhere else (just like RE2), a mini-prologue if you will, ending at the police station.

i have a 10000 model ps2 with a hard drive an its got 4 games on it it will not start them. one is listed to be resident evil. ps2 looks pretty much brand new even has the online disc for like a early psn store

If they half-assed the Resident Evil 3 remake they might end up doing it to The Code Veronica remake that's why I didn't pick up the Resident Evil 3 remake because of how short it was and very little content. Plus we know Capcom won't bring back the outbreak series cuz they don't see it as profitable. The reason Resident Evil 8 wasn't all that scary and it was focused on more action is because the new generation of Resident Evil fans bitched and moaned that 7 was too scary.
I never found seven to be all that scary Evelyn was annoying Jack Baker was more funny than scary I don't think Capcom knows how to do scary in Resident Evil anymore.
