#Stellar video. Thanks for the clarity and breaking it down to a basic understanding. Im still using the Apogee Duet II interface tracking through 1073, 1176, LA2A & NLS channel plugs.
Thank you so much for the kind word 🙏🏾Apogee, OMG their stuff sounds and works so good! I know cats who prefer their Duets over anything. Ppl be sleepin’ on Waves NLS. That used to always be at the top of my inputs. Thanks for weighing in!
Thank You! Excellent clarity and representation of each instruments individual dynamic character. Impressive. Love the runs from EWF. I only hear this type of engineering prowess on bands like Incognito. Salute Bro!
Ah man, thanks so much for the kind words and the sub🙏🏾 I haven’t had any encounters with the Audient interfaces but I’ve not heard anyone dis them. I know spec-wise, they’re supposed to be comparable to the Focusrite lines but a bit quieter. Audient will be at the NAMM show next week, so I’ll make sure I stop by and give a close listen to their product range. Is this what you’re using now?
👍🏾👍🏾 I could definitely hear the difference from the API and SSL, although I personally, prefer the sound of the API & UAD plug-ins over the SSL. You made a good point Shay regarding committing. I can agree now how committing in the beginning helps and give you a good starting foundation for the overall project and/or song. I can truly hear the quality in having a good/great set or one mic pre(s) makes. Moreover, I can see how it will only make your job as an engineer that much better, as well as working with a great group of musicians and song. Very informative.
Thanks, again, for checking in and the kind word🙏🏾I gotta agree with you, the UAD sonics are mind-blowing🤯But, yeah - when you can hear the detail in what you’re recording, it helps to make some good choices going in and makes the gig super easy when it’s time to mix.
#timepoint 23:00 *I hear you but I would say, he place to start is dealing with the WEAKEST LINK IN YOUR AUDIO CHAIN, which is that DAW & DIGITAL MIXER with all the bloated C++C-- floating point code and worse! Dealing with that, sorting it out before going into purchasing gear, whereas these days TRUTH IS most mic preamps are fine and when you crack open the lid, nearly all of them are using the same chip sets, rather the build quality is good is another issue, rather the software on the back of them is good, thats another issue, rather the CLOCKING is any good, thats another issue. If you have a system like SAW STUDIO & SAC | SOFTWARE AUDIO CONSOLE, you will find that all the sudden your stock mic preamps are sound better than you imagine and you will also find what your plugins really sound like - whereas majority of you have never actually heard your plugins before, because of your WEAKEST LINK IE: that DAW / DIGITAL MIXER, which is doing all the number translation from A TO D AND BACK*
@@chayalexanderwright Why did you delete my other comment with the links to hear and see a live session of similar delight, baring a system that was using Behringer ADA 8000 via RME adat cards and how ANALOG SILK SHIMMERY SMOOTH it sounded off the top with only 2 stock plugins used? .....PEOPLE NEED TO SEE THAT, his tech has been suppressed for long time and it has for me and even Elton John, changed out lives. Whereas all this expensive outboard gear and plugin sweets really are not necessary plus people do not really understand, how plugins actually function in a usage, with the latency they add etc.
Thanks. I'm new to this studio life and building my taste. Been a live guy, church type. Got an x8p Apollo 3 yrs ago for the modeling thing. I recently got a used steinberg UR824 with blacklion mods, man I can hear super clear details and dynamics now but no dsp. Also got an rme digiface usb to play with Adat setups from the interfaces. not sure what Im doing but want to learn... not at the outboard gear level yet. Being tempted to get some Antelope synergy boxes to complete my semi-pro rig that will commit on the way in- i don't have too much time for mixing so want awesome capture so I do less in mixing and mastering. Have all DAWs but becoming a cubase guy. Any advice will help? thanks in advance.
Thanks for tappin’ in on this🙏🏾you know, between the UR824 and the digiface, you’ve got a solid configuration, and the Apollo pretty much stands in its own, really well. You can always lightpipe the ur824 into the Apollo for 16 analog ins. As for the DAW, I’m a bit biased as an engineer and long-time Cubase/Nuendo user. Cubase may feel more familiar to you, being a live sound mixer - esp with Cubase having a dedicated input mixer. You might find Luna a bit familiar, too and even Studio One, for that matter.
Thumbs up! What is the best file type, bit depth, and sample rate for vocal recording? File type wav or aiff? Bit depth 16bit 24bit or 32bit? Sample rate 44.1 or 48? Vocal recording level -10dB or -12dB? Thank you love your videos?
Thanks so much for the kind words and checking out the videos🙏🏾 resolution and sample rate: you know, there was a time where I used AIFF and then just fell into WAV at some point when all the DAWs just defaulted with WAV files. I could never really hear a difference between the two so I say it’s a preference thing. Personally, I’ve always tracked at 2448 because it sounds much more true and open, to me. Plus, when you submit sessions and files to go to soundstages for tv/film, they’ve had to be in 2448, so i always do additional mix bounces in 1644 with UV22HR dithering engaged, just in case they need to be ready for CD pressing. I’ve got a video coming up on oversampling, where I’ll get into the higher sample rates. For vocals, typically track with the pad at -10 or 0, depending on the voice.
Hey everyone, quick correction on those tom mics: they’re Electro-Voice N/D468. Thanks for watching🙏🏾
Yooo who is this guy he’s special and I’m a subscriber now
Thanks for the kind word and sub🙏🏾much appreciated
Great show
Thank you so much for the kind word and checking out this video🙏🏾
Really enjoy your take on things from a truly experienced engineer, Your take on Digi was spot on. Love the calm "NO ego" demeanor.
Thank you so much for the kind word and checking this video out as well 🙏🏾I really appreciate this.
Great job!
Thank you so much🙏🏾I truly appreciate it.
Bro! Great video! Loads of info here! 💪🏾💯
Bruh-man, thank you so much for the kind words and checking this out🙏🏾

Hey man, thanks so much, that’s a huge compliment 🙏🏾 yeah, those RME Octomics are the truth, even if I do say so, myself.
And just like that I subscribed. Love it when people know in detail their ish. What do you think of the Audient ID interfaces mic pre’s?

@ hey bruh - thanks for the kind words🙏🏾real quick: that comment with the links is still in the feed. I just saw ‘em, myself.
*There has bee so much miss information in this industry dealing with equipment and techniques, its crazy!*
💯thanks for weighing in🙏🏾

I got a focusrite isa one going thru apogee duet 2...i won't need anything else anytime soon...
Thanks for weighing in🙏🏾yeah, the Focusrite going thru that Apogee?? Dope - you don’t need a thing!
