Let me lay some facts on you, Mana Crypt is the most expensive card he pulled and sells for roughly $150 in foil showcase. Even if every showcase mythic he pull was a Mana Crypt he would still be out $100. Force is the most expensive at $250 and the others fall off sharply not even hitting $100, so I'd say he probably lost close to $500-$600.
They’ve honestly done a “good” job of getting desirable reprints into these sets. Fatal push was reprinted in mystery boosters and double masters and took the base price to under $1. The highest price cards: FoW, crypt, etc. we’re very well targeted to push them under $100. From the perspective of making modern magic more accessible 2020 has been a great success.
Rudy, I have this debate about reprinting cards all the time with people. For example, people complain so much about fetch lands. And I am wondering just how often do we need to reprint them? There are 5 different printings of these cards to date. I mean do we need to reprint them every year? So we should just have a rotating set of staple cards that are sought after every year? People don't realize that they are standing on the shoulders of people who came before them that made the game a success by both investing/collecting and playing the game. The game would not be where it is today and not be as popular if there was not a chance to pull a chase card and hit a card that could be worth $50 or $100 later down the line. If you keep reprinting cards over and over you lose one part of the game and this causes a cascading effect. Sales go down, R&D suffers, the games suffers further putting downward pressure on the sales and now less people play and now you can get cards for $1 a piece but you have no one to play with.
I couldn't agree with you more. People say well we need staples to play the game at a low price. I say you have all the staples you need to play the game. You have lands and creatures and planeswalkers, instances, artifacts, etc. And you have them all in $3-$4 pack that is currently available and in print.

We played modern at our shop tonight. Still a lot of people. Even though it isn't sanctioned by wotc. We all had masked and there was temperature check. Then still quite a few stayed around and traded.
I enjoyed the insight at the end. I dont know what the community wants! People want value/expected value but then want the game to be accessible. Rudy is right. WOTC needs to decide if Magic is going to be a brand or game. I thought for sure Magic Arena was going to solve the problem. It's not doing a great job of accessibility.
Watching this video a year later I thought I was missing out on getting the singles but the prices didn’t really change. Glad Fatal Push is still $10 which is absolutely insane.
I sent in my UPC labels and got free packs but it took 4 months. It seems like they may be backed up in the replacement department, I had to send in a zendikar rising expedition for damage but haven't gotten the card back yet. Patience is the key or just forget about it like I did and then one day you'll get mail from WOTC and it will be like Christmas in "insert whatever month you receive your replacements"!
With vip double masters packs at $90 unless you are hitting a fow, or a tron land and one of the better mythics in the same pack, it’s force of will or at best break even or come out maybe $20-$30 ahead. The bad packs seem to be around 50% of that case. That’s a bad bet.
i mean, the whole point of reprint sets shud be to make things more acessable, yugioh and pokemon do shit way better then magic imo, reprint the hell outta stuff so people can actually play with it and then the collectors items become *versions* of cards, there are plenty of high rarity yugioh cards that hold values in the hundreds especially with konami having lottery cards in the form of starlight rares as of recent that have held onto their value almost completely, yet those cards are still able to be played by ppl, and if not now theyll be reprinted in probably about a year
The game needs to decide if it's a game first or a collectable first. Secret Lairs and special versions in theory should be able to split the difference. Other games and collectables exist by having fancy super rare versions of common things.
Wizards customers are now just whale investors and active players, collectors have been pushed out completely! Blows my mind the mistakes this company makes. Guess they learned NOTHING from the 90’s sports cards era.
Thank you that needed to be said! I stopped heavily cracking packs 2 yrs ago cause I hated seeing every good modern card I own taking a 50% hit every other yr.
For every post like yours, there are 2x as many posts from players whining that the singles they want are too expensive. Wotc reprints, people complain cards devalue. Singles rise in price, people complain cards prices rising and they want reprints. It’s never ending crying bout card prices.
@@momagic383 Either it is a collectible game or not. And if it is, which it has always been markets this way, reprints have to be done responsibly. What Chris is saying is a classic example of what happens to people when you irresponsibly reprint cards. Why should he open packs? Mo'Magic you are right though. You hear 2x because the loudest crybabies are the ones heard the most. If you cannot afford the singles, just print proxies on photo paper and make them look semi decent. I mean we just want to play the game right?
If you get packs that are stuck in the glue like you did the first time opening these then I'd say these were sitting in a warehouse for a long time. The subsequent sets that came out since then didn't have that issue.
Ordered a card called Shimmering Dragon just for the art and the card was as dark as night, couldn't see any detail, half the card was literally black, and with a sleeve on it's worse :(
I expect there to be more reprinting of the modern staples this year. WoTc logic being, if they can increase the supply of the core modern cards and make them cheaper, they can then get more people to buy into the format. While planning to print modern format warping cards in newer sets, such as Modern Horizon 2, and the newer standard sets. They can then ban the cards from standard, and let them break a pre existing deck or create new decks in modern that will out tier the reprinted modern decks. Driving demand for the newly printed and also other older cards by the people who bought in. Best example of this was Once Upon a Time from Throne, the card broke Amulet Titan. I can only image the sales of Titans, Amulets, and Pact's sky rocketed. While they also cashed in on $20(Cnd) Once Upon a Time's before it got banned, and plummeted in price.
Y'know rudy you're creating a nightmare scenario where wotc listens to you and decides to add the fetchlands/shock-lands to the reserve list starting this year.

What if for $100 ultra premium products and drops WotC were to included them in deck boxes like Satin Towers? or even just the cheap BCW fold-over plastic/velco jobs? Like their wholesale prices would be cheap, their overhead for printing the cards is still the same and the profits on them massive. Take a small hit on the profits to include real value, and increase the public image a little and also incentivize (yeah, its totally a word) customers to buy the gold-plated tacos. of course WotC wouldn't ever do this, they'd rather foil a VIP box that isn't resealable. Who knows though.....Maybe FaB guys will see this and realize the potential ;)

different printers on different locations.. not strange at all. A carlsberg made in denmark doesnt taste the same as one made in US. Different raws, methods and equipments.
What video was he talking about at 2:08 about the guy opening unhinged lands ?
I was thinking the same thing. Way to leave us hanging Rudy!!!
That Sword of Feast and Famine looks so fancy!!
Ms. Vlogs, nothing is as fancy as you are!! 😉
@@brewcrew7550 well I don’’t know about all that but I do make an effort lol thanks 😊
Rudy in video: REPRINTS ARE KILLING VALUE.
*Proceeds to show every card that has been holding or gaining value*
I totally agree with the ramble by the way! It's so scary to get cards not knowing whether or not the price will be chopped in half in the next month cuz over print it again
We played modern at our shop tonight. Still a lot of people. Even though it isn't sanctioned by wotc. We all had masked and there was temperature check. Then still quite a few stayed around and traded.
I emailed them to chase up to get the standard double master packs. I got an email back from wizards, saying they won’t send me out the packs.
I missed these, I love watching the VIP Double Masters openings.
Great content.
How u been meatball
I enjoyed the insight at the end. I dont know what the community wants! People want value/expected value but then want the game to be accessible. Rudy is right. WOTC needs to decide if Magic is going to be a brand or game. I thought for sure Magic Arena was going to solve the problem. It's not doing a great job of accessibility.
I still can't get over how amazing that Sword of Feast and Famine art is.
Watching this video a year later I thought I was missing out on getting the singles but the prices didn’t really change. Glad Fatal Push is still $10 which is absolutely insane.
So Rudy how do you really feel about how bearish the market is on modern cards? 😃
Buy low sell high baby been rolling around my lgses picking up board less fatal pushes for 4s and 3s 😎 bear markets gotta end at some point
I did get mine about 2 days ago for the redemption, they take about 3 to 6 weeks from the time they get it to shipping.
The return to the return to VIP.
i mean, the whole point of reprint sets shud be to make things more acessable, yugioh and pokemon do shit way better then magic imo, reprint the hell outta stuff so people can actually play with it and then the collectors items become *versions* of cards, there are plenty of high rarity yugioh cards that hold values in the hundreds especially with konami having lottery cards in the form of starlight rares as of recent that have held onto their value almost completely, yet those cards are still able to be played by ppl, and if not now theyll be reprinted in probably about a year
What?
I feel out of 5 boxes my first two were pretty good. Had a Mox Opal. Now there are 3 sealed, and trying to keep them sealed for a few years.
The fact that the playmat is Recurring Nightmare makes this so much funnier to watch
17:18 I was dead ass on my phone listening after watching the whole thing, what a coincidence.
I think this set summs up Wizards in 2020 quite well - low quality, high variance, insanely priced products designed to funnel our money.
10:04
Rudy: It's not a bad product - only priced bad
Me: *Looking at scratch across Trinisphere* 🤔🤔🤔
No I didn't see the video about the unhinge lands ... someone link me please?
Same
The game needs to decide if it's a game first or a collectable first. Secret Lairs and special versions in theory should be able to split the difference. Other games and collectables exist by having fancy super rare versions of common things.
Thanks for these videos! There very entertaining and I can’t afford to buy these on my own so thank so very much!
Wizards customers are now just whale investors and active players, collectors have been pushed out completely! Blows my mind the mistakes this company makes. Guess they learned NOTHING from the 90’s sports cards era.
Chris, why do you say collectors have been pushed out?
does anyone remember when rudy said he wasnt going to be pack opening channel but it turned out to be the most entertaining mtg opener
I had four copies of smothering tithe, listed for $50 a piece. Thought about selling but decided to hold back. Double Masters 2022 came out.. $25
I thought this was old for a sec so I skipped it then my alert finally popped up, and it was at that I knew Shit... Was... About... To... Go... Down
"She's working her way down".
Giggity?
7 months later, modern is back and sheeeeeeesh
Explosives, baubles.
Not to mention the rares.
Double masters now a flipping homerun
NICE
BEAUTIFUL DOUBLE MASTER💯💯💯💯
I always watch till the end rudy your my guy
It will be a fun day when Rudy buys Magic from Hasbro in 2041.
If you get packs that are stuck in the glue like you did the first time opening these then I'd say these were sitting in a warehouse for a long time. The subsequent sets that came out since then didn't have that issue.
Ordered a card called Shimmering Dragon just for the art and the card was as dark as night, couldn't see any detail, half the card was literally black, and with a sleeve on it's worse :(
The patron will be celebrating by eatibg plankton and making low clicking sounds. Congratulations, captain Timmy. You are a winner
Nope, this is not my kind of set!
Y'know rudy you're creating a nightmare scenario where wotc listens to you and decides to add the fetchlands/shock-lands to the reserve list starting this year.
I fucking wish lol
Player : fetch are too expensive
You : lets make them more expensive it will save modern and legacy
@@gabrielharvey956 I just prefer my cards retain, or even gain value rather than lose 50% of their value after a single reprint.
@@taylorbates4742 I'm okay if the not-land staples hold value, less ok if the landbase prices me out. Shouldn't have to pay 600$ just to have efficient Mana.
These are really fun to watch for the sole reason that I could never afford this
0:02 _You think I know what a jpeg is?_
I can’t believe only one damaged card in Trinisphere. Usually there is a line going down at least one card in every two packs or so.
A lot of these cards are great in commander as well and they are so beautiful
Amazing opening i miss those,i cannot afford them so it is good for me when Rudy open some!
Alwais epic speech in the end thanks Rudy that thebreason i'm here everyday, alwais!
Nice pulls, I'll never ever buy a "VIP" product again after getting hosed though
Real video starts at 15:26
thanks rudy for the lessons on investment, i traded my chase singles for sealed product and it was a super good investment. slow and steady wins the race.
Consumer confidence, or is it market confidence?
2021 will be the fetch lands in modern horizons 2. I’m sure they’re going to be playing that up massively. May even bump up the price of the set to really piss people off
What else was in the packaging? They seem awfully large for the pack of cards
That's it! They are unnecessarily large
The terminator is the T-800 model and NOT the T-1000
Are they not working on a Pioneer Masters or Morden Horizons 2 for 2021?
Modern Horizons 2 has already been confirmed to be released this summer with the enemy fetch lands taking up the rare land slot.
''Check the price of this now (Cyclonic Rift) it's like ten bucks.''... Nah it's 50$. Because it's Rift.
Ya I was gonna say base prints are 20
how dare you not put the tron lands together with karn. I know you have done it before, but we needed it again!! lol
I just bought one of these, it was my first and only one, i got that same combo, karn and full art fatal push...intresting...
Also rudy they are only 85$ on Amazon
Awesome pulls...but even more awesome rant at the end.
Most expensive can of pringles ever
VIP doesn't pringle unless you dont know how to take care of them. This isn't cmd legend print quality.
@@jayceh J V is a Timmy
i can feel you phasing back & forth
I still really don't understand how phasing works. No matter how many times it is explained to me...ummmm ok (slumps away sneakily like Mayor West from Family guy).
these pulls are insane. I've opened 5 of these and haven't gotten anywhere near that value.
He makes me so nervous whipping that razor knife around, gets my anxiety pumping.
You can tell how far he throws those boxes by how long it takes for them to hit the ground
Is it the urzas block
Context for "the guy with the Unhinged Lands"?
i would also like to know context
The crazy reprint set is time spiral remastered I wouldn't be surprised to see time shifted fetches
I need that Imperial Recruiter
idk if people in this market realize. but ive seen stuff like "reserved list is a joke", and it makes sense. now they are highly overpricing and overprinting foils, those will never have a value nearly to old foils. not even in 30 years.
Honestly, not enough rambling towards the end. Rudy speaks the truth.
Oh ye! Only Very important Timmies can be twice as nice. This was most entertaining openings of yesteryear. The next reprint set will double the doubly to become quadruple masters. Once the overlords at wizards release moodern horoozins 2 spoilers all the timmies will be eating up the hype faster than you can say jeweled jayce.
