Shitty watercooling with Alex is the best series ahah
Any Linus and Alex video is S tier
Alex is the best. I love his jank, and how so many of his projects are just excuses to buy more tools.
Yes, and its s+ tier, when alex gets to use k5 pro!
@@kgoodfarms Topped only by a Linus / Riley video.
Hands down, Alex and his ideas are the best vids on this channel
This made me think LTT should do a challenge like Top Gear where they bought the sketchiest cars off of online ads and competed with them. Edit: I have previously watched Scrapyard Wars. I'm suggesting a simpler, single episode, format since SW didn't work for them.
Isn't that basically scrapyard wars?
So, Scrapyard Wars.
God I miss Scrapyard Wars
Damn we need scrapyard wars back
@blockyround2160 kinda. They also have CNCs and 3d printers so it would be better.
Nothing makes me happier than when Alex is excited he gets to make a mess knowing that cleaning up that mess is a nightmare for Linus😂
Linus Does Not Clean Anything! He Shows Up For The Video! He Has A Bunch Of lackies That Do The Actual Work!
Buddy wasn't satisfied with scamming only his viewers, companies etc so he decided to scam himself I wonder what's next? His parents? Then again he already probably scammed them numerous times just like he did his entire fanbase.
"It does not have to be janky", proceeds to pull out the most janky water cooling hardware that they could find hahaha
That Resonator thing is actually pretty damn cool. Really digging all the dials and the flow meter. Glad you guys were able to get it working again.
Except it's a Reserator
It is pretty cool, isn't it? I've got an ancient case that has cooling tube pass through holes in the back. And now I kinda wish I had a reserator to use em!
@@skyking469 you sure it's not trent reznor?
Shady watercooling with Alex and Linus, the best series on LTT 😂 is soo sketchy... Love it

The person that sold this package needs to do a reaction video to watching this, lol.😀
Lmao
Dudes a genius.
Would love to see the reaction to the price it sold for too lol
Ps you are the person 😆
Hi guys. Thanks for your purchase of my garage junk. North Vancouver big ups!
It's always awesome seeing you take what would otherwise be thrown in the trash and tries to salvage it. More of this please!
Zalman made some serious cool tech at some point. The Reserator and the flower style coolers where some top notch stuff back in the day. I had a flower cooler on my 9500pro and my I think Athlon 2200+ :D
Then it went wrong, remember the Zalman watercooled power supply... 😬
@@TheBibliofilus at least they where pushing boundaries. Arguably those specific boundaries didn't really need pushing... But still. At least they did something remotely new and interesting. I miss that these days. We seem to be stuck inbetween "20 year old slightly modified tower cooler" and "boring all-on-1 with some leds to make it look somewhat cool" these days. The few interesting products we see these days go for such ridiculous premiums literally no one buys them 😅
This my favourite type of videos from this channel. Although expensive, I really liked seeing then restoring that reserator.
I kind of really like seeing you guys save what is essentially tech trash and salvaging it to something useful and not go to a landfill. It'd be neat if it picked up and you could have an entire section/department dedicated to that.
Is it gonna be used for more than one video, though? I mean still nice if it gets more use but what's after this? Warehouse until someone takes it home?
Hopefully to a local scrap tech company/charity @@Daniel-zy1ir
@@Daniel-zy1irthen throws it out a couple years later
It’s just delaying the inevitable
24:10 Alex goes into detail how this is absurdly not financially viable
I'm all for re-using before re-cycling but this video is pointless from the start.
Paying way more than you would with new (cheaper) stuff but doesn't require a cnc machine and machinist to make it work, not to mention risking actually functioning and valuable hardware from damaged blocks and leaking fittings.
Unrelateable, pointless waste of time and money and unless your into cringing from what your watching, not worth the bandwidth (or time) to watch
Watercooling with Alex is always a jenky joy, love it.
You guys convinced me in 2018 that air-cooled is the way forward. Keep spreading the message to the new generations with more videos like this :]
I've been water cooling since 2000. I've never even thought of air cooling my gaming pc. Cooling a 13900k on air is damn near impossible. My video card can pump 600 watts of heat. I'd say water is needed
@@nando03012009 During the turbulent 10s I had top of the range K processor with watercooling but then realised that it just wasn't worth it. There were always problems while being on the bleeding edge of tech, overheating, crashing, unstable clocks etc.
In 2018 I "upgraded" to a mid-range i5, gtx1070 and have never needed more since.
Next upgrade will keep the same specs but with greater power efficiency and grater stability
@@nando03012009 Agree, if someone gets a 12900 or 13900k and thinks it runs well without thermal throttling on Air hes delusional. I have NHD14 Chromax Black and Assassin III which are the strongest Aircoolers money can buy. A 12900k is twofold too much for those coolers. 90+ Degrees and its consitent with tests from review sites. Those chips are impossible to cool on air and dont have evenhave remotely the possible performance that intel claims. If you can't get proper watercooling get a AMD chip. Period.
@@nando03012009 Sure if you got top end hardware that will suck up so much watts that it need to be watercooled to work. Intel's cpus can run crazy hot but as far as i'm aware nvidia's 4090 coolers are overbuilt from what I have seen people say of it despite kicking out 400-500 watts.
Then you gotta consider use case: if you're gaming then water cooling is probably never going to be needed unless you're overclocking the snot out of these hardware (which isn't much these days because they're already pushed to the limit). Most games are never going to push modern hardware hard enough to overwhelm a decent air cooler like a noctua d15 or a thermalright peerless assassin (what I have). People just seem to run water cooling if they're doing a sff pc or they're aiming for quiet operation at least that's the vibe i get with every water cooling videos i see outside of this channel.
@nando03012009 13900k actually runs fine on air with a beefy dual tower air cooler.
These videos are more entertaining than anything else you guys post - alex and linus working together on videos is a must
Love the chemistry of you and the fluid and fun editing style. It feels like watching an old american choppers episode
great video... love to see how much time and energy went into making this video as good as it was. Quality and still almost daily.... keep it up LMG
Jenky watercooling with Alex is my most favorite part of this channel!! Please keep it up, I love it
It’s always exciting when you guys post a new video
They should really just use the ultrasonic cleaner for everything
LTT should just do more videos on restoration of old PC parts like this. Pretty satisfying to watch. Waiting on some old rusty bolts. =)
oh man I reallly loved this kind of video. Wish you would do more of these
Wow. I remember seeing Reserators reviewed in Custom PC Magazine back in the day.
I've never actually seen one for real before.
I would love to see a team Q&A one of these days. Though I have a feeling many of them would be for Alex because of the absolute shenanigans his videos get up to
maybe in a year??
Once again. Alex and Linus combo is my favorite pairing cause alex is a mad scientist and Linus just enables him 😂
Man, I wanted that external cooler so bad forever ago. Kind of want it now for my Meshilicious ITX case!
Great video.
I still actually really like that one rez that was made to be mounted in a rack mount system you guys bought for the one video where Alex bought all the parts and made everything even the gpu water cooling lol

A tier LTT content!!! Banter, Tomfollery and a great mix of fancy engineering and bodgery!!
Not so long ago I would definitely ignore this 'Just another daily vid'. But since we have less content now, I actually enjoy watching it more.
Also props for increasing quality
FOR REAL
To be fair, Linus doesn't have a lot of luck with auctions...
They should do a Donut style Hi-Lo video for PC components.
Besides wan show, this is the best LTT video I've seen in a long time. The amount of filming days you dedicated to it really paid off.
Alex is right. It's like working on old beater cars but with computers.
LOVED this one, more fun build shenanigans and fringe products!
Nice job linux, can't wait to watch it!
Linux... lol
This should get pinned
18:43 I mean, this is far more entertaining and useful than reviewing Intel 14th gen
you guys never get old to watch good and bad and funny love you guys
Alex and Linus janky shop time hangouts are easily the best content you guys make.
It’s always a good day when we get an Alex video
I am legally blind and I like listening to Linus’s videos. I was shocked and horrified upon not hearing a segway to their sponsor in the beginning. What a shame!
They did have one one screen, but obviously that's not worth much if you can't read it
It said "Laughing to this segue.... to our sponsor!"
18:37 "so many man hours of opportunity cost" I know it’s a joke but these kinds of videos with Alex and Linus playing around is my favorite types of videos! keep up the good work.
There's always a "do you know what it's time for" from Alex followed with Linus saying "noooooooo" when you guys work together lol
Now i kinda want a Luke Nukem shirt as well because of Linus.
One thing I want to point out having recently needed to sell on Ebay to survive between jobs:
A lot more of your money went to Ebay vs. the seller than they’re showing. They straight up lie about the quality of shipping you’re paying for, but if the seller tries to bypass this and get you a good shipping option, Ebay will hold their money a month longer for getting you nice shipping.
By the time I was done selling my last tube amp (worth $900 new) I barely made $50 off it. Sellers aren’t ripping you off or being as nefarious as it may seem. Really rough platform.
Do you know any alternative platforms for reselling tech online? Besides Amazon/Newegg
I sold on ebay in order to make money/save up for my first PC (refurbished foot massagers back in 2018) and I probably could've kept selling if it hadn't been for me already having built my PC and ebay being the WORSE platform ever. Everything is easy to do and the process of getting your shipping label is easy as well but I would always be on edge because in the event of a customer claiming they never got something its 50/50 on whether or not ebay actually sides with you. The countless stories I would hear from people. It's as if ebay treats you like a seller on Amazon with the way they side with customers and treat their sellers like garbage. I stopped selling with them after a supposed error in my package weight that resulted in a 12 dollar charge by the shipping company. When I asked ebay and told them that the package couldn't have been a different weight because I had sold multiple of the same product they told me there was nothing they could do. They hold your money as well so they just yank it before you even have the chance to receive your OWN money.

Yea, genuinely frightening selling experience. Every time you sell
What do you mean by "they lie about the quality of shipping"?
What does that even mean?
this video is chill af lol. yall are so tuned its awesome
The tarkov dig made me lmao, love it linus keep it going
I love it when you guys restore this old tech and make it run again.
Funt fact LTT: I still have one of those Zalman Reserator XT in Silver, in mint condition minus the pump :P I also kept the ORIGINAL coolant that came with the device when it was new, looking at the bottles it kinda looks fine too!
That additive in bundle with the zalman was the reason of most of its problems actually. It tended to cristallize and block the waterblock cooling paths, the flow sensor and cause erosion. The best way to fix it was to use not conductive fluids. just for your info. (I have the same reserator in my cabinet lol)
@@alessandrosala2340 Thankfully the original coolant only ran a few hours in it, hell the whole thing is barely used lol
@@alessandrosala2340 Hard to say it was the coolant that truly caused those issues as the included zalman pvc tubing also leached an insane amount of plasticizer, I never used the included coolant and my system still got clogged with this grey putty which surely would have been dyed blue if I used the zalman coolant.
I would say the Reserator is a success. Definitely reviving the idea of external radiator cooling. Imagine having your Fractal Ridge PC, and tubes running out the back of it to a reserator on the floor or somewhere else to save on desk space.
best video we have had in a while love the longer project videos
These kind of shenanigans are why I'm here y'all. Hope LTT never loses sight of that.

I do enjoy watching you guys taking junk and making it work. Seriously not everyone can afford new stuff so it’s cool to watch you guys (in a playful way) make items some would toss out and make them work (sorta) again.
Super cool external cooler. I didn’t know that was a thing. Having that run your gpa/cup/mem cooled would be awesome.
The flex seal hat goes hard
Guys white chocolate is technically a compound butter.. THAT'S DEEP
Loved this video, feels a lot like old LTT, super jank projects
This went a whole different direction than I expected based on the title. Well done! That Reserator was pretty cool. Almost makes me think it is the predecessor to my swiftech h320, which is a reservoir radiator pump combo. If it wasn't for that thing I probably wouldn't have even tried water cooling.
It's possible that the reserator might have broke while in use and then was just left outside or in the garage for a long time before being sold, thus all the green gunk.
They certainly used the included zalman tubing and coolant the former of which always leached out so much plasticizer that clogged the system to failure.
And people said Linus would go on a downfall nope
This is the thing that set LTT apart from other techtuber, Jank
You need knowledge, professionalism and jankiness to make something that is really fun to watch AND learned something from it too
This is the most I've been entertained by a ltt in awhile. Alex + junk = hilarious

Wow ain't seen a Reserator in a long time. You should track down one of those thermaltake tunic? tower thingies. There was a passive one as well either them or Zalman. Always wanted one!
Imagine if they used their thermal cameras and tried some of those, like the awesome tower one from zalman or the huge cooler ball. I'd watch it!
