Hola Mr. Garcia! Being a fellow CPA and consultant, I appreciate and thank you very much for your taking time to create content that helps educate non-accountants. I don't understand how intuit constantly starts off with a promising idea/feature but doesn't invest time to beta test them internally before going live. Can't believe we can't tag line transactions for JEs or for split transactions....there is just no rhyme or reason to it. Would you have any power or influence on getting Intuit to fast-track some of these "common sense" fixes?
Thank you Hector. A really great addition to QBO. In the UK we do have tags in QBO Labs. I turned it on and set up a few Tag Groups that I thought would be helpful. Then found that we don't have any Reports that we can run within Tags. Hopefully it will come. But I don't think that it will be of any help until reports are available to us. Fingers crossed it happens soon. Thanks again.
@@HectorGarciaCPA I gave my feedback to tags last night and told them that I had seen your fab video on tabs showing report options. Great article thanks, tags are much clearer now :) I noticed, however, that sometimes I will enter (income) bank transactions with a 'split' because the income (from Zettle) from two days (wednesday and thursday) are combined in a singe transaction. So I split this income for accounting purposes. However in this split I can only add a single tag from the group this would produce an incomplete tag report. I expect that the only way around this is to ungroup these tags (e.g one tag for wednesday, one for thursday? Is this correct.
Thank you Hector, so helpful! One question - if I have two grants that have to be reported on separately (but the money goes through the same bank account), would tags be the best way of keeping the funds separate? We have quickbooks essentials online, so no classes or locations or other things I've heard of but not seen. Can I do what I need with tags, or would it be better to upgrade? So far, essentials has been fine for what we need to do, but keeping one set of funds separate and reporting separately is a new situation. Thanks for any info.
This is really good. The only thing is that the user needs to be consistent in using the tags if they want to use the reports for accuracy. Nonetheless it looks like a great tool. I will definitely be using it.
I have a client that wants to track income and expenses for a conference that will be held a year in the future. They are accepting registrations and paying some of the expenses in the current year. They want to know if tags would work for them since it will span two different years. To me it doesn't seem so as the I/S clears at the end of each year.
Hector, can I go back to old transactions and start tagging without messing up any of the data already? For example, some of the invoices i want to tag have been paid already. Thank you for your help.

Can we assign employees payroll to a tag. My husband would like to see P&L for each truck in the field. Each truck has 2 employees and the driver has a separate bank account (debit card) for expenses. This would be awesome if we can do this.
Sorry, I posted this on the "wrong" video: When I tag an entry from my Profit and Loss, it gives me the error message: The transaction you are editing has been reconciled. Saving your changes could put you out of balance the next time you try to reconcile. Are you sure you want to modify it? I thought you said it doesn't change anything in the postings? What gives?
So am I understanding correctly, that the "grand" total maximum tags is 300, regardless of the 100 max limit within a Group? If 3 Tag Groups have 100 tags each, tags are already maxed out even though there are only 3 Tag Groups out of a (supposedly) possible 40?

I see you mentioned that the limit to the tags is: "40 tag groups. 100 tags per group. 300 total Tags". Do you mean 200 total Tags that are individual Tags, not in groups?
