Had a 2010 2.0 diesel ti sportwagon for 4 and a half years and I loved it. Had to reluctantly let it go in the end for something cheaper to run and maintain.
I've owned a 159, sold it and drove all kinds of other cars, now looking to go back into a 159. Looking for a tbi sortswagon, failing that a 3.2. Italia Auto's helped me so much with my previous cars. Neil is an absolute legend. I will follow this one closely.
I think cars in damp, cold and salty road conditions should undergo thorough under carriage cleaning every other spring. Remove the wheel well covers and give it a good hot water pressure wash and then a light coating of whatever kind of wax.
love your honest simplicity of attitude in working with these alfas, refreshing in todays glam tube . you could easily hit the high numbers with a bit longer time length and a tiny amount of detail. love it anyways
Great to see a 159 getting some love, they are great cars, love my 1750 Tbi, fortunately frames and suspension arms are all good, had to get the gearbox re-built though.
Great again Neil. In my experience it is usually the rust (due to lack of preventative maintenance) that leads to the early scrapping of too many vehicles! Happy New Dewalt Impact gun!
How come that in England cars this “young” starts to develop so much rust? In Italy apart from mechanical issues due to poor maintenance and suspension failing due to bad road conditions, cars keep a pristine metal condition without any rust!
That radiator seems very tired...I had a 2004 156 (after I sold a 2001 156) and although I loved driving it I was disappointed with the general quality of the car. All the minor brackets, bolts etc started rusting, compared it with my wife's 2004 SLK which was mint. Considered buying a 159 but the 2.4JTD although it "gained" some power had to cope with the increased weight of the car. Decided to buy a 6 inline 3l diesel and never looked back. Looking at the amount of rust on the subframe and suspension...my former 2005 E91 had 300K km's when I sold it but never had this amount of corrosion.
They vary😂.Coukd be one of 3. If it's the more sturdy 2.4 version it's stamped on the top. If you look down through the engine you should be able to see it stamped in the casing.
all 4 of them front subframe bolts span when i did this on the old 159 - i did as it happens watch the old 159 subframe video on this here channel quite few times before i started, how i found this here channel that was. I really want a lift, all this looks so much less faff not rolling around the floor lol
Be good to see a brake bleeding how to video neil especially the order and whats best pedal pump or one man bleeders, ignition on or off, do you need to cycle the ABS pump etc.....
Well look at it this way if you take your pet to the vets for treatment how much does that cost compared to having it put to sleep. he’s good with a welders vernier (hammer)
The cost of fixing that and driving a car with character is nothing compared to buying a new sh it box with zero wow factor.
I love these kind of videos. 159 is very good car, deserve to bring her back to life.
As a current owner of a Sportwagon, i'll be watching intently 😊

Yeah it's the rear end next
I just don't know how you do so much heavy work on your own - great stuff!

Excellent video as always
Thanks
Excellent video Neil- so much rust!!!
Cheers w
great job restoring a 159
Again surprised by the major rust caused by British road salting. Similar like in Austria. I did not see this so worst in Germany. 🤔
Blimmin' heck. What a saga.
Can't believe the owner didn't opt for new front strut top mounts.
I didnt know you could still get new 159 subframes.
Great work mate! You missed cleaning the condensor/ radiator and please don’t hang the caliper on the hose… Further good job cheers!❤
i did make a point about the caliper and hose. you must of missed it.
I am sorry ure right👍🏻

Great work. Thank you

90s Mercedes were the worst rusters of all you know ! They screwed up the water based paint changeover.
@@timhancock6626Yes it’s clearly down to rubbish modern eco paints since 2000…. just not fit for purpose….
What gear box is in the 159 2.0 jtdm. M32 ??? Great vidoes mate 👍

So many different ways to do it. They all work depending on the abs system fitted.
Great video! Will you remount the cover on the bottom, mine is still attached but i hear that some people prefer them off.
A lot of hard graft there. Well done. What is the product you use to protect the underside? Is it connected to a compressor?
nice one Neil
deep pockets there
Very
Those front sub frames always seem to suffer badly.
Yeah they sure do.
No protection from the factory.
How much was the gearbox overhaul?? Better than buying an unknown used box eBay guess ????
They are not holes they are drainage aids. Was/is there a better looking saloon than a 159 NO and I have a Giulia and had 2 156s
Great video.who do recommend for spare parts please.i want to rebuild my steering rack thanks
Alfashop with discount code TH-cam1
@@ItaliaAutos thanks
loved the video, whats that background noise at the beginning of the video? Ive noticed it in older videos too
Next doors metal cutting machine. It does my head in.
Just action, no waste of time😅That 159 gets all the love now which was missing last 10 years. I don't find part 1 of this 159.

How much is all this work costing? Isn’t it way in excess of what the car is worth?
Probably but cheaper than buying a new sh itbox with zero fun miles on it.

Where is part 1?

Next doors metal cutting machine. Try to film when it's not being used but doesn't always happen
