  • I just got back from a cruise and wandered what happened if you were late getting back to the dock during a port of call. Watch the guy's reaction about 30 seconds in.

      Idk man, Ive seen a fair few people be left behind on account of shore excursions organised by the cruise company itself running late. Though sometimes when that happens they organise further transport to either the next port of call or request one of the motorised lifeboats be sent out to pick the passengers up.

      Cruise companies are perfectly within their rights to leave late passengers on the dock/s. You only need to read the fine print on your cruise tickets as well as EVERY announcement which is made you get to a new port and it all tells you the same thing - to be back ON BOARD ships 1 HOUR before departure

    • @sarge6870
      @sarge6870 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Alex, I think you may be confused. A ship won't leave port when a cruise line excursion is late (of course depending on HOW late) and will wait. Today, most of the 3rd party excursion providers will give as part of their package transportation to the next port of call if they get back to the port late and the ship is leaving or gone. Because of this option the 3rd party providers offer, many cruisers will opt to go with them as opposed to booking with the cruise line because of price. Here's the thing...ALL of you personal property is still on the ship INCLUDING your passport, medication etc. so travel will still be a bitch. Best bet, book an excursion with the cruise line for a little more. I've been on 13 cruises and have always booked excursions with the cruise line and have NEVER missed a sailing!

      Nelphoto that is a very smart move!✔ i've crused twice but not for some years now love it really want to go again soon- for all you may be on holiday you've chosen to holiday with a coupple of thousand others so they have all managed to get back ontime it is your 《sole responcibillity》 to be checked back on board before the well publicised departure time an hour before is what i choose to do too. At the end of the day your ticket terms and condittions clearly state captain has no obligation to wait and u will be left at Port if u fail to turn up ontime. also getting shore excursions with the ship evan if at inflated prices are your guarentee of safety if you are as a group running late they have to wait for u in this senario as u booked with them and their staff are still not back either.

Two days later, he did the same thing and was again charged another $250 because he thought after the first charge, that gave him allowance to smoke in his cabin. After the 2nd occurrence, he was removed from the ship at the next port!

    If I was running a cruise line, I'd make it EXPLICITLY CLEAR in ANY AND ALL contract and TOS, the captain is on a schedule. If he says be back ON the boat BEFORE a specific LOCAL TIME, then you best be on it. I would give the captain the specific ORDER not to wait. You're running a business, you have OTHER PEOPLE on board. Your time in some other city/port SHOULDN'T be cut short just because someone else spent longer in a previous location, forcing the ship to wait.
    No.....if you're not on my ship, when I say, we're leaving you behind. Good luck in your new home. Hope you know the local language....

    It’s simple. There is ship time and there is shore time. They are not always the same and the ship runs on ship time.
    So use a watch (wind up type) set to ship time as automatic/electronic devices can automatically change to local time without your knowledge.
    Then get back to the ship with time to spare. You can then film the pier runners and feel a bit smug.😜

      Δημήτρης κάποιος that is incorrect it cost ships a lot of money for things like fuel and dock fees so if your late there is a high chance that the will leave with out you. The ship usually wait until the dead line eg if you have to be on board at 3:30 they will wait till for sometimes later then will leave. If that happens it is your responsibility to either get to the next port or fly to where the ship terminates. The only exception is if you book a tour with the cruise line then if you are late then they guarantee they will wait for you.

    option A: get the the next port of call via land or air, at your expense.
    option B: fly back to your home country, at your expense. go pick up your belongings when the ship arrives.
    GL, and happy travels !!!

    Everyone who has ever been on a cruise knows that when they say disembarking at 5:00pm, they really mean 5:30pm. And they will still wait, after that, if they see you running for the ship. So, ANYONE who still misses the boat, deserves to be left behind, and pay the premium, to be reunited with their vessel. Although, it is fun to watch the reaction, when folks get left waving, at the dock. Or is that just me, lol?
