@@RyanAmplification HI Ryan! Thank you for watching! I switched after about two years within my MD program. My reasoning was based on my realization that in allopathic medicine we are not trained to build a rapport with the patient. It was when I was in allopathic medical school that we were praised for getting a patient intake under 15 minutes. Additionally because I had exposure to botanical medicine and alternative treatment modalities prior to me going to allopathic medical school my belief was that I would be able to employ or utilize that knowledge after allopathic medical school and as I progressed through the program I realized that that was not going to be possible because once you graduate from your MD program, pass boards and you’re finally a working doctor you’re going to be bound by the rules of whatever institution you work for or whatever hospital you’re a part of and there are going to be standard operating procedures that may not fit with a treatment plan that I know could be efficacious. I even thought of going the DO route but I was limited to manipulations and not the added aspects of naturopathic modalities and alternatives treatment modalities.
@@pagingallyne that's unfortunate that medicine is the way it is. That's the risk I feel like I am taking going the osteopathic route. I was excited to be an ND for years but all the negative talk and the lack of opportunities in certain states has pushed me towards standard medicine, even though naturopathic medicine is where I feel I would be happier. I am scared to continue my education because of that. I don't want to choose the wrong thing. Were you at u of a Phoenix? I live in the valley and am planning to go to Midwestern for the 9 month masters of arts program. You said you did a masters is that where you went?
@@RyanAmplification I went to Troy University in Troy, Alabama for my masters in biomedical sciences. Kudos on the Masters of Arts program! I will say as someone who has been on both sides I see the shift in our healthcare system towards naturopathic medicine although there is a stigma and continued fight for clarification or delineation between naturopath & licensed naturopathic doctor. However, many states are expanding their scope of practice and Arizona has one of the widest scopes. In my opinion, ND allows for you to be well rounded but you have creative and driven to design the career and exposure you want. You even have the option to be your own trailblazer and collaborate with other MDs & DOs when it comes to residency or even additional training. The decision is yours and you will not make a wrong one because I get the impression that you are passionate and helping other and have a desire to create change therefore have no regrets and make it what you want. ☺️
@@pagingallyne thank you! I appreciate your replies. I think there are pros and cons to both professions and I'll have to make sure what I choose has stronger pros. I think the path I'm on is the right one for me and my family and if later I decide it's not I can do what you did or do a residency in integrative medicine or something. Enjoy your education!
