UPDATE (I'll keep updating for quick answers) 1) The video is recorded in the "normal" mode, in D-Log M 10bit, and corrected with DJI's own LUTs. I've also tried using "normal" mode in standard colors 10bit, with very similar, if not the same results. Very underwhelming if you ask me. 2) I've tried using Super Night Mode, here's a video with footage. It doesn't look good unfortunately. th-cam.com/video/TNHL3kIJ4hw/w-d-xo.html -- I'm a DJI fan nevertheless, and hope they fix many of these issues with firmware updates. As well as put the Pocket 3 or similar sensor into the Action 6 (Pro?) next year!
Please stop using these exaggerated headlines to attract uninformed viewers. As of now, the OA5PRO is the only product that offers the best value for money.
First of all, thanks for watching. Second of all, this is not an exaggerated headline. I would return it if I could and people deserve to know. If none of these issues is a problem for you, fine, but that doesn't mean they are not issues for others, including myself.
@@RocaTT1456 I have plenty of clips from the past two weeks and says otherwise. The second I am in a challenging light situation, the camera prioritizes highlights - again and again. There's no face priority, at least not on my unit. You can also not tap on the screen like on any other camera. Here's the kicker though, you actually can, if you connect the Action 5 to the DJI Mimo app. This functionality exists, DJI just doesn't allow you to tap on the screen. That's an issue.
@@TechWandererYT For the 4th problem, did you just use the "snapshot" to record the video? the OA5pro response so quickly, that the BT mic connect need a few seconds. That means, when you click the snapshot button, the cam start record within 0.2s, but the DJI MIC2 with BT need 2-3s, that's how the BT works, you can not blame OA5PRO start record so quickly.
No es exagerado. Es cierto... Hay demasiado youtuber que cuenta en función de lo que le pagan... La 5 pro es un desastre tal y como ha salido a la venta
I am using Action 5 pro, I have “0” complains. This camera performs perfectly. Besides low light … Jesus, you can’t expect action cameras perfect in low light. This camera shoot perfect. I did many tripes with this camera. All my footages came out perfect.
@@NishakaWickrama well, actually you can. Just look at the footage of the just released Insta360 Ace Pro 2. It blows the Action 5 Pro away in low light. I’m happy the footage and camera works for you. Genuinely happy, as you’ve spent your hard earned cash on it. This video isn’t targeting people that have it already, but the ones that have yet to decide to buy it. And they should be aware of the issues.
Fair review, however......You said that the footage doesn't look that great, but you also said that you didn't make any changes or adjustments to any of the settings. So if you are not taking advantage of things like changing the ISO, Shutter, etc. Or dialing down the sharpness and noise reduction among many other things when you first get the camera, then of course the footage won't look as good as it could be. Also in your low light review you said that you didn't use the Super Night Mode. Your night footage would look way better if you did. So your review was only for the camera without taking advantage of changing any settings or features, which seems odd? Either way, I appreciated the insights, cheers!
You’re right! I did not make any adjustments and just wanted to see what the "out-of-the-box" experience was like (that’s what the majority of people would do). As for Super Night Mode, I have a pinned comment with an unlisted video that shows that in action. Looks really bad if you ask me. 🥲 Thanks for watching and for your comment!
@@wayneberry3453 Changing the shutter makes the video brighter or darker and can cause a video to be smooth or choppy depending on what it's set at. If the shutter is set correctly and not on Auto, then it could have made the overall image look much better.
You have been to quick to judge. No problem with the dji mic2 works perfectly. The image quality on the 5 is stunning. And hey it is an action camera... the supernight mode is great... I really don't understand your review much...
Hi Bart, thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts first of all. I'd say, if you're happy with the DJI Action 5 Pro, that all that matters. These cameras are not cheap, and if you got what you paid for, then I am very happy for you and I won't argue against it.
watch the video of all the dji on Full 2160p on a laptop, tv or on a high end Phone with maximum display setting. you'll see how crap the video of AP5 is.
You are right about the camera not giving priority to low light environments during the day. And it auto adjusts the focus when you go from bright to a darker environment, which makes it worse. Happens in my Action 3 too, and I think it has followed through. For night, however it has a Low Light mode which is the best on the market right now.
Hey! Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. I have to test the Action 5 Pro Supernight mode after the update, but before the update it was really bad.
Hey 👋🏻 Awesome to hear from you guys. If you shoot me an email to rob@techwanderer.tv, I'm happy to send anything your way. But here's what I know right away: Action 5 Pro and DJI Mic 2 (tx and rx) both had the latest firmware I've just now (minutes ago) updated to the last firmware, but happy to provide anything to help make this better via email.
DJI, can you tell me why the DJI 5 Pro has a more cropped Ultrawide FOV than the DJI 3? The DJI 3's Ultrawide FOV is much wider, yet it should still be 155°. How is this possible?
@@damondersonne We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. The cropping frame and the actual final FOV (Field of View) employ different streaming strategies. Please refer to the final output for the actual effect. We appreciate your support.
They just updated the firmware with huge upgrades including higher bitrate. As per night, you must dial in manual settings. 4K 30, EIS at Rocksteady (not +), Shutter 1/100-1/8000 (this is very important, you can also use quadruple your frame rate to 30FPS at 1/120, 60 at 1/240, etc. (FORGET the 180 degree rule with this camera, and with all action cameras), Texture at -2 (-1 is ok too), Noise Reduction at -1 or -2. In super night mode, you can’t adjust ISO but you can adjust these settings and should if you want usable footage. In normal, all these settings apply but make sure ISO is 100-25600 at night, 100-3200 in sunlight and 100-12800 at dusk. Shutter at four times frame rate (1/120) or 1/100-1/8000. I would make FOV standard but you could use wide. Color is dealers choice, normal 10 bit or DLOG 10 bit (which you’ll have to grade in post or in the app). Set EV to -0.3, -0.7 or -1. I liked -0-3 - 0.7 in most settings. Out of the box this camera is not even close to as good as it is with these settings dialed in.
Donavan! That's so cool, thank you so much. I'll make a follow up video with 'best low light' settings as several people have suggested settings in the comments. I'll test then and make a video about these, including yours. Thank you so much for these.
FYI - they just updated the firmware a few days ago for the low light. Also added many new features. I think what you expected out of the camera is instant gratification “fast food” I think but the technology does take a few seconds to catch up in leveling or sound. I’ve owned 3 go pros now and this action 5 beats even the go pro 12 I got last year. It is far superior and the best action camera I’ve got! Now they also have the mic mini that just came out! A great system at low cost without the 32 bit float and bulkiness.
@@dawnj.6649 the DJI ecosystem remains unbeaten, especially with the mics. GoPro sucks and they’re pretty much dead. I’m really just pushing for the max here and hope enough people see it as despite the name, people buy it for the exact purpose I mentioned in the video.
There are always people who have to complain, you should not compare apples with oranges. This camera the action 5 costs only 379 euros, the comparison with the Pocket 3 almost double. Advantage and disadvantage larger chip so larger pixels but not suitable for action cameras. Because the depth of field is immediately affected. Action cameras must keep everything sharp filming almost from the lens. I also have the Pocket 3 and also the Action 5 both have their advantages and disadvantages.
@@tonkellner8582 thanks for watching, and for your comment. I disagree with the points you made, and believe in the next year or two we will see this change. But happy to be proven wrong.
Need to switch to d-log for low light and contrast but agree that for someone who know a little about filming and want the results out of the box this camera might be a disappointment. I personally love dji action 5. Mostly using for action (paragliding) not vloging as camera is intended for. This is soooo much better than gopro in term of reliability and battery performance. Honestly I don't understand why people buy this cameras for vloging. There are so many much better options even in dji family. Just sold my all gopro collection as I am tired of those cameras not powering on so many times in important moments. If you need action camera buy dji or insta 360. If you need vloging camera buy dji osmo pocket. Simple as that.
So this footage is actually all recorded in D-Log M and corrected with the official DJI LUTs in Final Cut Pro. No other changes were made. I did this because now there's a "Color Recovery" button in the DJI Mimo app, so even unexperienced users should record in D-Log M for video that they care about. And I agree: I would never recommend a GoPro EVER. They lost their path, which is a bummer because competition is good for us, consumers. But Insta360's Ace Pro (2) however... that's a different story and we'll see how they compare in a week from now. But as I said in another comment above, A LOT of people buy these cameras against their intended purpose, and that's a problem (for GoPro/DJI/Insta360). There is absolutely no reason to put a small 1/3" sensor in these cameras, when their drones and even the Pocket 3 has much better sensors. Not only in terms of low light, but capturing light in general, image quality, etc. The market wants a camera in the 'action camera format', but with really good quality. And I think that this will be the driver for a major shift in this market in the next 1-2 years. Thanks for watching!
Haven't tested it myself, but from (unsponsored) reviews, the Insta360 Ace Pro (1 and 2) both beat the Action 5 in low light by quite a significant amount.
I finally left GoPro for DJI. Took me over 3 years to switch, mainly because I support American made products, I tolerated GoPro for so long for the same reason. I love my Osmo Action 5. It’s not perfect, but compared to GoPro, it sure seems like it.
A potato camera could outperform a GoPro these days I'm afraid 😭 I really hope they get their act together because competition is good for all of us. I honestly think the Action 5 is just a 'slip up' from DJI. Am sure next year they gonna CRUSH it again in terms of innovation, as DJI is really, really good overall. I have so much stuff of theirs it's not even funny. Having said that, I wish they had put the sensor of the Pocket 3 into this version. Hoping this will happen next year as everyone will benefit from it! Thank you for watching and for your comment mate!!
Super helpful. I’ve been thinking about picking one up but all these problems are making me hit the breaks till they can possibly fix things with firmware.
I’d take a minute to think about that. Especially because Insta360 just announced the Ace Pro 2 for 22nd Oct. Definitely compare first before adding it to cart. Thanks for watching!
Wrong camera for general purpose vlogging, dude. I have no idea why people are using Osmo Action cameras for general vlogging. There are so many other suitable cameras that are meant for general vlogging like Sony ZV-E10 or Osmo pocket 3. As the name suggest , Osmo Action cameras are meant for high action scenarios where more bulky cameras/lenses like Sony ZV-E10 or fragile cameras like Pocket 3 would be more of less impractical. Obviously these high action activities are far less likely to happen in low light/night time, so it is kinda unnecessary for Osmo Action cameras to have superb low light performance. Aside from that fact, Osmo Action 4 & 5 have similar image sensor size as many phones like Google Pixel 9 phone which are not that great for low light situations.
Hi 👋🏻 Thanks for watching and for your comment first of all. I actually have a video coming up on this very topic. There's a huge gap between what people use this camera for, and what it is made for, and I think this will change the 'action camera' industry in the next year or two quite significantly. Everyone I speak to (creators) wants a Pocket 3 in the form of an Action 5, and that's what people expected, too. Now The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is said to have insane low light performance, so we'll see how the market develops. The Pocket 3 is amazing, and you're not the first one to say that this is the alternative. But a lot of vloggers want POV-style footage, point and shoot - literally. The gimbal is awesome, but there's demand for a camera that you quite literally point and shoot. Hopefully the Action 6 will do this! Thanks again for watching.
I really appreciate your feedback, and thanks for watching. Having said that, even if you do really need an action cam, the low light is just one of the issues. Horizon Balancing, the mic buzzing, and the exposure metering are all issues that will affect you as well. So I hope it was helpful nevertheless!
@@JoATTech he wasnt using low light modes if you turn those on it actually does an amazing job for an action camera i prefer it over the ace2 the action looks more natural while the ace has some weird glows
I use this camera for bike rides and it does amazing. You could watch some tutorials for the best settings for the camera. also there is a low light shooting mode
Thx for the review! I recently purchased the osmo a5p, and while not perfect, it is a fantastic action camera! I am anxiously awaiting the specs, and release, of the insta360 ace pro2 and more than likely, will get it as well. I will also agree with you 1000% that the pocket3 is absolutely the best thats out there.
@@gmg3precision thank you for watching! The Action 5 Pro definitely has its place and is the best action camera for a lot of people. As for vlogging… I’m VERY eager for the Ace Pro 👀
I plan to buy that thing and use it for extreme sport videos and I'm pretty sure it's gonna perform well. There's nothing extreme about walking and talking in the city. For that I rather use mirrores M4/3 camera or even "normal" camcoder.
Thanks for your mini-review. It’s one of the only ones I’ve seen where the reviewer actually purchased the camera for themselves, rather than it being sponsored by DJI. I saw your follow-up clip in the “Super Night Mode” and also wasn’t impressed. DJI is pretty good at improving stuff in software, but the first attempt was definitely lacking. I was really surprised to see that the Insta360 had metering options. With my Action 3 it’s always been to hope it gets the metering right and that’s it. Regarding the horizon balancing, I haven’t had your issue on my OA3 or OA2 prior to it, but had issues with my Mini 2 drone always going out of calibration. I wonder if the acceleration forces in the airplane messed with the accelerometer in yours? Are you recording all your clips in quick capture, or are you turning on the camera and then recording? Bluetooth takes a couple of seconds to connect with most devices, so I would assume that is the issue with the mics. That said, if the camera is already on and then you start recording, then that’s just a problem, period. Thanks again for your thoughts. Really nice to get the perspective of someone who spent their own money on the thing.
Hey James! Thank you for your comment and for watching. To answer your questions: 1) Most clips were in quick capture, going on and off throughout the day quickly. Some were not. 2) Regarding the mics, yep that's definitely the problem and I doubt they'll fix this particular problem, through someone else noted that it is much better than it was on the OA4. 3) As for the acceleration, yep there's definitely something to it. This also happens on my Pocket 3 when in a car or something. DJI is great at fixing thing in software, so hopefully I will be able to make a follow-up in the future. Thanks again for watching!
Switched from GoPro to the DJI Action 5 Pro Zero regret The 4K, high bitrate is amazing, colors much better than the GoPro Sound is better. Low Light recording way better. Battery life is amazing specially with the powerbank control stick attachment. Stabilizer is great. But that's my opinion, and I respect yours. But you said you didn't make any changes to the settings so i reckon that's why you did not get the full experience.
I'd say that coming from a GoPro, anything from DJI will look and feel like an insane upgrade. Am glad you found something that works for you to be honest!
For the Mic2 issue, i guess it's because you turn on the camera via the record button, which means the camera has to reconnect the mics. This doesn't happen with Pocket 3 just because the different way you turn it on, which gives more time for linking the mics before the recording. You never tried to use the Mic 2 with the Action 4 i see. If you did, you should notice how fast the Action 5 is to relink (this was my main upgrade reason). Genarally speaking i think that all problems you exposed should be easy do fix in next firmwares. Maybe the low light will not be easily fixed but hey! It's an action camera not a Pocket 😄
Hi Umberto! The one thing I take away from the comments here is how much of a dedicated fanbase DJI has built. Regarding the mics, interesting. Yep, that is definitely the issue and it is awesome to hear it has drastically improved in the Action 5 Pro! I have indeed not used the Action 4, my last version was the Action 3, hah! It would be awesome if DJI could add an option to, if it is connected to the DJI and NOT triggered by the button on the mic, maybe suppress the buzzing. This would totally fix it, and as you say, it's one of the things they can definitely fix in firmware updates. Thanks for watching and for your comment, Umberto!
@@TechWandererYT I'm moderately DJI "fan" but mostly i love to get things working as i find the Action range good for my needs 😃. For the buzzing, hope i'm not wrong but there should be a setting to disable it from the DJI Mic2 receiver. Obviously the first couple seconds of audio recording will still be on internal mics. Cheers!
I'd say I'm a HUGE fan of DJI 😂 Just this camera is a bit disappointing. There is indeed an option to turn it off, yep! But I actually like the buzzing as a confirmation when I start recording. Wish there was a condition, like... 1) Triggered recording through the mic: buzz 2) Triggered recording through REC button: no buzz That would be cool!
Nice to find a critical video of this action cam. So many are sponsored by DJI and regardless of what they say, they cherry pick all the good things to say about it in their video.
@@urbanfireblade happy to hear you got good value out of my video! The camera isn’t all bad, but for the average vlogger or family-filmmaker, it isn’t ideal still! Thanks for watching!
I do not have this 4th problem with the DJI Mic 2. Other than that ... I agree. Fortunately I haven't bought it for vlogging exclusively but, mostly due to lack of "face priority" or "face exposure" it's unusable in most vlogging scenarios. But it's great for PoV shots, for bike shots, amazing for car shots (using suction cups), etc. Also low light is crap, and I kinda do not like all the reviews lie to you it's amazing .... it's not.
Thank you so much for watching! I agree with everything you said. For POV, the Osmo Action series remains king. But we will see next week. 👀 Low light I hear has just gotten a significant update in the firmware. Will test as soon as I get the firmware popup for me!
Im not a professional videographer but i have a little basic knowledge on how and when to use the iso, exposure and white balance. If you will use the cam and just turning it on and you want to get a good and briliant result, try to study first the settings before using it for better result.
Interesting, thanks for your video. What about the Super Night mode everyone is talking about? It should bring better results in low light, right? Did you try?
Hey Alex! Yep, some of the clips in there actually were recorded in this. But here's a longer clip for you to review. It's a bit rough and unedited, but there's a few parts where I hold the camera still. th-cam.com/video/TNHL3kIJ4hw/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!
@@TechWandererYT, thanks again. Mmmh, well, not what I expected after all these reviews on TH-cam saying, what a great low light performance the OA5 has. But let’s see what the Ace Pro 2 capabilities are. 😀
Depending on how good the Ace Pro 2 end up being, I might get one to compare it. If I could return the Action 5 Pro, I definitely would. Not happy unfortunately.
I think as an absolute beginner that doesn't know cameras or wants to learn about them, the Action 5 Pro or Ace Pro 2 are both amazing options. In fact, I would probably go for the Action 4 instead because they're almost identical and it's cheaper.
I used this camera. Its is nice camera for day light, and not that dark low light as in your video. The only problem is bit rate issue that DJI might fix with update. Every tech vlogger know about this camera is for action sports with this price range. This camera will be 2nd best after Ace Pro 2 and after update it will be challenging for Ace pro series. This is not that bad, not agreed with this review. There are other cameras available that can just focus on face but you need gimbals.
Hi Armani 👋🏻 I would argue against saying that this is purely an action camera. Sure, it is advertised as one and there are good reasons (product differentiation, and extreme sport makes for great marketing), but in reality A LOT of people (the majority) buys it for non-action purposes. Tap to expose or face priority is a non-negotiable and it already works if you connect the DJI Mimo app. DJI just didn't enable the feature on the camera itself.
I don’t have any problem with the camera what I bought and I am so happy with this low light marking fantastic. I think you should see you sitting for low light and put on automatic after.
This camera is amazing , i have 3 of them & have used them professionally since a week after launch, you shouldn't blame a device for user error, also make sure its updated.
Thank you, your video is cool. Honestly, I have also used OSMO 5 PRO since it was first launched for every video on my TH-cam channel, and the results are very satisfying, previously ACTION 3
I’d wait for the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 (22nd Oct) and then wait for some unbiased/unsponsored reviews on these two before making a decision. If you don’t need the ruggedness or waterproofing however, I’d buy the Osmo Pocket 3 instead of both of the others. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@trulytoldtalesbyirk hi 👋 I highly recommend Tamara’s video who’s a trusted source for all things DJI. She made a comparison here: th-cam.com/video/pw3j6NTVRSQ/w-d-xo.html. I’d would keep the Action 4 if you got it for a good price (cheaper than Action 5 now). But I’d still watch Tamara’s video. Hope this helps!
@@KeatsIT Hey! Thanks for watching and for your comment. That’s what a lot of people say! The problem with the Pocket 3 is that it’s a lot more fragile and can’t take any water, not even rain. So while traveling, the Action 5 Pro is a lot more appealing. Unfortunately the quality is a let down. 😭
I REALLY glad i saw this, so many people edit the footage etc and I'm not going to be doing that. I need it good on Auto and was hoping to use it inside as my only and main camera but thinking now it's not the right camera.... pocket is good but delicate and pricey but you get what you pay for right
Try switching your shutter speed to 1/100 manually, its good in daylight and has the best balance bewteen noise redouction and stabilisation for low light, it might be a bit dark in low light but its stil better than poor stabilisation and noise Other than that, its basically an insta 360 ace pro with worse low light, low bitrate but still more dynamic range in d log
Would you suggest saving the money and using manual settings with an Action 4? Idk anything about cameras. Really just getting one to record my motorcycle rides in replacement of a dash cam. I'm a commuter so some rides would be at night
The biggest No Go is that in my case Dji overheats on powerbank without battery inserted allways in hot summer ,Gopro doesnt do that in the same conditions even on 4k60 not 👌
First of all, an action cam isn’t really meant to be a blogging camera. It's called an action camera because it’s designed for recording extreme sports, where you attach it to your body. As for the lowlight performance, when they say it has good lowlight capability, they’re comparing it to older versions of action cams, not to a full-frame DSLR or mirrorless camera. If you’re really looking for excellent lowlight performance, go for those instead. And if you just need a travel camera for documenting, a mirrorless camera is a better option, especially if you have the right lens for it.
I did, see pinned comment. But I believe since the last firmware upgrade, it was drastically improved. I'll make an update video when I get the chance :)
@@TechWandererYT thank you very much! Didn’t realize your pinned comment had the info. Enjoying your channel I’m just getting into cameras and such and have enjoyed watching some of your other videos, keep up the great work.
Brother one thing you have mistaken that it is an Action (moving) Camera for moto blogging or any-other rapid action mood. It’s not for blogging( which you rightly said).
Hi Tommy! I didn't in this video, but here's two clips that use it and you can quickly see why I would never recommend anybody using it. Even DJI says that this is for "extreme low light scenarios" - sort of a last resort if you will. th-cam.com/video/TNHL3kIJ4hw/w-d-xo.html
In my opinion, and a lot of other people's opinion, avoid GoPro at all cost. The DJI products despite being imperfect, are magnitudes better than GoPro. If you want a choice, it's between the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, and the DJI Osmo Action 5.
The camera is really good compared to other action cameras, really good compared to the iPhone ultra wide, it’s an action cam, the sensor is small, low light has always been an issue.
I received my action5pro yesterday and Im testing it out at the moment (4k/RS/W) and im recording at 55min and counting. Its hot (very hot) but it is not shutting down. I want to use this for pov driving (i want to record new routes as a busdriver that I have to learn) Does it help to record at 1080p? Or do you have advice to change a setting? Hope you gave some tips how to reduce the temp during video recording
Thank you for making the video and explaining about some rarely complaint issues, but as you said at the end of the video, this is an action camera, durable and capable of doing all those in a way, while your comparison model Sony wouldn't be able to do in such conditions :) And I guess the price and the performance is a determinative reason here that's why most of people are happy with it. However video is enlightening in a way to stress out what could bother people who may want to use a better option.
The action pro 5 is for me because I use it for action (extreme sports, motorsports, fast movement activities). It’s not for you because you’re just walking around. There are better options for walking.
Hi David! I think the Action 4 and Action 5 Pro are extremely similar. While I didn't own the Action 4, I know a good amount of people that did, and they say it is barely an upgrade. A rather disappointing year in terms of upgrades. If you like the Action 4, and you don't have any issues with the DJI Mic's or the low light, then there is no reason to upgrade in my opinion - at least not for now!
Yep, that's the plan. The second I'm doing something meaningful to film, I'll make an update video. The reviewers said it is better in Super Night mode now, but still not great and it comes with downsides. Plus, still no metering.
04:20 bro u sugest action camera for a gimbal camera ? are u serious ? can i bring Pocket 3 while i'm surving can i ? and by the way, is that focus hunting on purpose ? like the mist "glowing dream" filter u add to this video ?
Firmware update has made a massive difference on my friends but what's been putting me off is Google removed app for it so is now an apple product basically and that's enough for me to swerve it and go for the AcePro 2
This guy is new to Dji, first little while after a release the cam is usually not the best. You have to wait after one or two firmware updates to get a straight out of the box usable cam.
@@independentmind6345 been with DJI since the original Mavic 🤣 you don’t buy a product for what it could be but for what it is. If it changes in the future, I’ll make another video. Until that my recommendation is not to buy one if you want to have a camera that just works great out of the box for different scenarios.
I watched your video, I as a user of almost all DJI action cameras, so now I also have the Action 5, you should not compare apples with oranges, I also own the DJI Pocket 3 (great), that is a different price range but the Pocket 3 is not an action camera, has a larger chip much higher price so your comparison completely misses the mark. Your comparison to the Insta Ace Pro 2 launched in October, but then still not for sale anywhere. So there must have been errors. The DJI Action 5 Pro after firmware upgrading is a top camera, great sharpness and pure colors. And that for that price.
"If you don't need the water proofing or ruggedness of an action camera.... " Bruh.. Are you serious ? Couldn't you sense the meaning of ACTION in an action camera ?? 😕
There are so many settings to adjust on these cameras that you really have ignored. Most people who vlog won't be using the default settings. So your claims of "unusable" video is an exaggeration. If you want to be taken more seriously, at least say that you are evaluating the default camera settings with no adjustments, rather than implying that the camera as a whole is unsuitable. There are many videos out there from non-DJI sponsored reviews that show much better low light performance.
ok so here are few problems with this review. You are reviewing a ACTION camera as a vlogging camera, it is not a vlogging camera, yes some people may use it as one but that is not its intended purpose or what it was designed for (however the lowlight performance while not great is WORLDS better than gopro). The reason it does not have a tap to focus on a certain area is once more because it is not designed for vlogging the lens design is specific to keeping as much in focus to not lose any detail when filming ACTION. Maybe your title should be something more like "If you are a vlogger maybe the dji action pro 5 may not be for you". Also at the end of the video you stated maybe you should buy the pocket 3.......a camera that is intended for and marketed for vlogging, and as such the lens profile and design is centered around vlogging. Not so pro to compare an action camera to a vlogging camera.
This review is the worst what I ever see it’s seriously unprofessional. It’s really subjective and there is a reason behind on every act what the camera does from a professional perspective and I’m talking about as a DIT and the Colorist in the professional film industry so what I can suggest is just don’t listen to this. This is one of the best on the market right now and if you still think these issues are a problem for you then rethink about the solution because they are really easy to overcome. These are not problems. These are peculiarity.
i personally think the osmo action 4 still outperforms the 5 pro any day of the week .. the osmo action 4 looks much better in daylight performance , low light the 5 may be brighter but still not impressed with low light .. and that is to be expected ...but as far as daytime footage the action 4 looks amazing and the 5 looks over processed ... to me anyway .
A very strange person. I bought a camera for other purposes, and now I'm trying to tell you why it is not shooting correctly. Your choice is originally pocket 3. In general, real fans have both action 5 pro and pocket 3.
pocket 3 blurs all the outdoor beautiful vacation background and that is not good for people love to make vacation video. that is no point to record outdoor and blur the background like pocket 3
I guess that's where the "Pro" could come in. I'm guessing that DJI next year might have an "action camera"-type sensor in the "Action 6" and a "Pocket 3"-style sensor in the "Action 6 Pro". From experience, the majority of people would prefer the blurring. In fact, that's one of the (accepted) downsides for the Action 5 Pro in my case.
I have auto exposure issues as well on my Action 4 so doesn't make any sense to make upgrade; Update ; This camera has a big issues which I just what I discovered Lense Flaring
@@BassManStrikes I did use the Super Night Mode, link for unedited footage is in the pinned comment. I’ll make an update video after updating the camera but from the change log, it doesn’t look as if these issues were addressed (yet).
Are you aware that it has 2 low light modes for low light scenes? I'd say there is no camera for you if you don't know how to use them in certain conditions. Problem 2, exposure compensation. I got this issue with the hero10. Problem 3, all i can see is the camera leveling smoothly, probably right after a serious tilting which was not shown in the video. Also, when recording from a moving plane your problem is rolling shutter what almost every camera struggles with that has electronic shutter. I was expecting some real issues but if this is all the cons, I think I'll switch from my shitty hero10.
02:40 bro for Horizon Balancing, if u press Record and the camera is not well balance, that problem would come up, and the solution is u must press record when the camera position well balance. Because in HB or Horizon Steady mode u still can potrait mode before u hit record button. I think the problem is, u think the camera have to understand you, but not, u must understand how to use it properly, that is why manual exist. and i tell u a secret, if the horizon have problem, there are horizon calibration for fix it, try it.
@@Demullete unfortunately this is incorrect, and I said in the video, I set the horizon balance several times. The recording was also started while perfectly balanced. It has nothing to do with the the balance of the camera, but rather the acceleration
I was so disapointed also with footage straight out of the box. Its had one firmware update since purchase and now wont update to this recent one ? When i am in settings on the app it states account and activation date not recognised . Anyone sent there camera back for refund within thirty days my old iphone 11 is better quality and my trusty original lightweight no frills osmo action . Frustrated and disappointed .
That sounds like a case for a) a refund yes or b) the DJI support. This doesn't right despite my critical take on this camera. Nevertheless, I have no doubt that an iPhone 11 overall for everyday situations will be better or at least as good as the Action 5 Pro, unless you want to do action stuff.
@@TechWandererYT it was the low light footage capability I was attracted too as my osmo was overheating at 4k and my insta360 was broken and sent for repair to China I recorded footage and don’t want to mess with studio adjustments and it was so fuzzy I released a video and took it down after a few days. My next video with the horizon lock made me feel sick watching it back as if I was in a fishing boat I will need to contact DJI about this also I feel. I took the service cover insurance at purchase
Reviewing something is good but before criticizing something we need to think twice because it can harm a company. So unnecessary bad review is not good. You didn't change any setting and you expect it to give you the best quality in low light? Even iphone 15 or samsung which is far more expensive can't give you good video in low light without adjusting the setting. As far as i know this camera is by far the best one in low light compared to all others. Then you said you got some problem in horizon leveling but other creators dont, then why are you talking about it in a way that this is one of the reasons not to buy this camera. If majority gets a problem then it can be considered as a problem. I am not trying to support this brand but just trying to say that our reviews can make people choose or leave something, so we need to be more careful before saying bad things about any product. Every product has good and bad side, but some bad sides are manageable, the things that you are pointing out i can clearly see all these things can be solved, or maybe with updates these will be solved. Otherwise so far dji is the best action camera out there in the market. About low light, if you see 360 or gopro, you will be shocked
@@thereza9010 Thanks for watching, and your comment. However, I really don’t care about the companies. I am not sponsored. They did not send this to me. 3:03 EVERY camera in moving vehicle (filming not front but sides) with EIS will do that, electronic stabilization uses a gyroscope, if you have no idea how it works (some basic physics) then we have nothing to talk about. @@TechWandererYT I have a vlog about bike cycling. I know that DJI cameras are made for shooting at higher frames per second. In a dark room they stabilize better at 100 or 120 fps.
Not sure you have given a fair account of this device as you don’t appear to have tested it in the correct modes - Super Night mode for example doesn’t work in D Log M so the footage will never be good - There is a dedicated night mode for example. Action cameras aren’t really designed for Vlogging either - Understand that you are going for the out of the box approach but if you willing to buy tech it would take a couple of minutes to read about the modes or watch a Utube video to figure out the best mode for the appropriate occasion - Thanks for the content though…
Hi there! Thank you so much for your comment. So I've tried the Super Night Mode, and it's actually really bad. DJI themselves recommends only using it when you have almost no light at all, as a last resort. It never actually looks good and is more of a 'last resort' capture mode. Regarding using it for vlogging, I think that's a huge misconception. They're named "action cameras", but they're not bought for that purpose. I understand that a large number of people do, but the vast majority of users are vloggers, travelers, or even parents for their children (I've seen this!). I have a video coming up about how 'action cameras' are going to change in a big way, probably will make this one next based on the comments I've received so far. This is clearly a hot button topic and deserves a full video to talk about - but I don't think that an "action camera" needs to have a 1/3" sensor in 2024, or have no exposure metering options when you tap the screen, for example. The Action 6 (Pro?) can very easily fix these issues. Some of them might even get fixed in a future firmware update for the Action 5 Pro. There can be a whole range of users for this camera, beyond just the traditional action camera users. I think we can all agree on that! 👏🏻 Thanks again for watching
01:05 sorry what ? so u dont setting first the camera for spesific circumstances that is LOW LIGHT, u just want to press a button and want to looks good ? bro we not there yet. This Action 5 Pro is on me just 2 month, serve me well, i buy action camera is for ACTION situation, and the low light is just a Bonus.
UPDATE (I'll keep updating for quick answers)
1) The video is recorded in the "normal" mode, in D-Log M 10bit, and corrected with DJI's own LUTs. I've also tried using "normal" mode in standard colors 10bit, with very similar, if not the same results. Very underwhelming if you ask me.
2) I've tried using Super Night Mode, here's a video with footage. It doesn't look good unfortunately. th-cam.com/video/TNHL3kIJ4hw/w-d-xo.html

I'm a DJI fan nevertheless, and hope they fix many of these issues with firmware updates.
@@TechWandererYT The face detecting of OA5 pro works, only if there is a face. so if your face in the footages, you can clearly see difference.

How did you do many trips when the camera literally came out last month?
@@TechWandererYT that is YOUR opinion others don’t have to agree with what you think about the camera.

@@uvodipbhadra7453 Hi there. Thank you for your feedback. We will forward this to the relevant department for further evaluation. Thank you.

It is the best. You can check the videos of them side by side the 5 is way better
I don't think you know what you're talking about or how to use a camera.
What other action camera is better for low light in your opinion?

Firmware updated on October 30th 2024 ! Yah!
U dont mention that in the videi it is extremely missleading to peapole that do not know ehat they are searching for in an action cam
I really appreciate your feedback, and thanks for watching. Having said that, even if you do really need an action cam, the low light is just one of the issues. Horizon Balancing, the mic buzzing, and the exposure metering are all issues that will affect you as well. So I hope it was helpful nevertheless!

To answer your questions:
1) Most clips were in quick capture, going on and off throughout the day quickly.

But that's my opinion, and I respect yours.
But you said you didn't make any changes to the settings so i reckon that's why you did not get the full experience.
I'd say that coming from a GoPro, anything from DJI will look and feel like an insane upgrade. Am glad you found something that works for you to be honest!
The 5 low light footage is far superior to the 4 😊
For the Mic2 issue, i guess it's because you turn on the camera via the record button, which means the camera has to reconnect the mics.
There is indeed an option to turn it off, yep! But I actually like the buzzing as a confirmation when I start recording. Wish there was a condition, like...

So as a beginner who knows nothing about cameras and wants a cheap and a good camera. What should i buy? Is action 5 pro good for me
I think as an absolute beginner that doesn't know cameras or wants to learn about them, the Action 5 Pro or Ace Pro 2 are both amazing options. In fact, I would probably go for the Action 4 instead because they're almost identical and it's cheaper.
Yes! For sure!!
Almost exact the same other than a massive jump in megapixels
DJI just didn't enable the feature on the camera itself.
well its a lot better in the dark than any gopros
I don’t have any problem with the camera what I bought and I am so happy with this low light marking fantastic. I think you should see you sitting for low light and put on automatic after.
i thought low light camera is amazing in this camera :( i was going to buy it just for that. also gopro 13 is worst too. which camera will i choose 😢
@gulsah21-q6j GO13 is even worse 😫 😑 maybe Gopro 15 if they still in business 🤔🤣
Ohhh I get that. I also had an Action 3 and while it was alright, the Action 4/5 are lightyears ahead hah!
Which camera should I buy now? Mostly holiday/trips movies.
@@skipim555 wait for ace 2 pro. Launching in few days
It's the best action camera in the market for a reasonable price
What about Dji Osmo Action 4 Camera? Would love to have feedback from you, as I have bought OS4 a month ago. So should I keep it?
@@trulytoldtalesbyirk hi 👋 I highly recommend Tamara’s video who’s a trusted source for all things DJI. She made a comparison here: th-cam.com/video/pw3j6NTVRSQ/w-d-xo.html. I’d would keep the Action 4 if you got it for a good price (cheaper than Action 5 now). But I’d still watch Tamara’s video. Hope this helps!
I can tell you know nothing about color grading or pro recording 🙄
That’s an issue if you don’t know how to use your camera and set up properly settings. Unusable is your video. You did it only to get views.
Osmo Pocket 3 is for vlogging my man. I have both the Osmo and the Action and they have very different roles but complement each other beautifully
I need it good on Auto and was hoping to use it inside as my only and main camera but thinking now it's not the right camera.... pocket is good but delicate and pricey but you get what you pay for right
Try switching your shutter speed to 1/100 manually, its good in daylight and has the best balance bewteen noise redouction and stabilisation for low light, it might be a bit dark in low light but its stil better than poor stabilisation and noise
Other than that, its basically an insta 360 ace pro with worse low light, low bitrate but still more dynamic range in d log
That's such a great, thank you so much. Will test this!
Thanks for watching :)
Would you suggest saving the money and using manual settings with an Action 4? Idk anything about cameras. Really just getting one to record my motorcycle rides in replacement of a dash cam. I'm a commuter so some rides would be at night
Good points for your uses for sure!
Thanks for watching Paul!
You have misses the Night Mode!!! You should have used it in this setting.

The biggest No Go is that in my case Dji overheats on powerbank without battery inserted allways in hot summer ,Gopro doesnt do that in the same conditions even on 4k60 not 👌
Does it have burst mode?
First of all, an action cam isn’t really meant to be a blogging camera. It's called an action camera because it’s designed for recording extreme sports, where you attach it to your body. As for the lowlight performance, when they say it has good lowlight capability, they’re comparing it to older versions of action cams, not to a full-frame DSLR or mirrorless camera. If you’re really looking for excellent lowlight performance, go for those instead. And if you just need a travel camera for documenting, a mirrorless camera is a better option, especially if you have the right lens for it.
Did you not out it in super night mode? Looks nothing like what I can produce during the night.

Dude’s comparison is like comparing Drones with Helicopters. Man that’s an action camera :)
did you use super night mode in the low light environment ? you didn't mention that.
I own one and it has very bad video quality.
Should I just get the gopro hero 13 black creator bundle?!
In my opinion, and a lot of other people's opinion, avoid GoPro at all cost. The DJI products despite being imperfect, are magnitudes better than GoPro. If you want a choice, it's between the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, and the DJI Osmo Action 5.
@ thanks for your input! between the Ace pro 2 and action pro 5, which on has more pros than cons?
Best action camera on the market right now!
The camera is really good compared to other action cameras, really good compared to the iPhone ultra wide, it’s an action cam, the sensor is small, low light has always been an issue.
@@CharlieVN the camera is really good compared to the GoPro’s, but Insta360 is catching up fast.
I received my action5pro yesterday and Im testing it out at the moment (4k/RS/W) and im recording at 55min and counting. Its hot (very hot) but it is not shutting down.
I want to use this for pov driving (i want to record new routes as a busdriver that I have to learn)
Does it help to record at 1080p? Or do you have advice to change a setting?
Hope you gave some tips how to reduce the temp during video recording
Thank you for making the video and explaining about some rarely complaint issues, but as you said at the end of the video, this is an action camera, durable and capable of doing all those in a way, while your comparison model Sony wouldn't be able to do in such conditions :) And I guess the price and the performance is a determinative reason here that's why most of people are happy with it. However video is enlightening in a way to stress out what could bother people who may want to use a better option.
This definitely sounds like , why this camera is NOT for you. It’s been great for me.
The action pro 5 is for me because I use it for action (extreme sports, motorsports, fast movement activities). It’s not for you because you’re just walking around. There are better options for walking.
@@Wooden_Hammer you’re absolutely right. Great choice then!
Hi I read on Facebook bitrate update has been done for bitrate, so should I cancel my 2nd Action4 order? Thx!
There is a new update gonna try that?
Yep, that's the plan. The second I'm doing something meaningful to film, I'll make an update video. The reviewers said it is better in Super Night mode now, but still not great and it comes with downsides. Plus, still no metering.

Did you use Supernight mode?
one thing is sure if you move quick suddenly and its jerky the footage thats the only reason I buy gopro 13
Does the recording in 120p also have sound like there is in Go Pro
"If you don't need the water proofing or ruggedness of an action camera.... "
Bruh..
There are many videos out there from non-DJI sponsored reviews that show much better low light performance.
really helpful video thanks
ok so here are few problems with this review. Not so pro to compare an action camera to a vlogging camera.
using in the wrong mode and then complaining is a bit embarassing... but I guess the click bait is working
The problem might be the unit ? I think the unit is user here
i personally think the osmo action 4 still outperforms the 5 pro any day of the week .. the osmo action 4 looks much better in daylight performance , low light the 5 may be brighter but still not impressed with low light .. and that is to be expected ...but as far as daytime footage the action 4 looks amazing and the 5 looks over processed ... to me anyway .
2:02 Pocket 5?
So you say you tested low light with default settings and then add a text to the screen that you didn’t? Was this video sponsored by GoPro somehow?

@@TechWandererYT it was the low light footage capability I was attracted too as my osmo was overheating at 4k and my insta360 was broken and sent for repair to China

So I have the right to be 100% honest, unlike many other creators.

3:03 EVERY camera in moving vehicle (filming not front but sides) with EIS will do that, electronic stabilization uses a gyroscope, if you have no idea how it works (some basic physics) then we have nothing to talk about. The low light performance on the go pro 13 hero black or the insta ist much more worse than the low light performance on the action 5.

That’s your right! I did too. Just know what you’re getting into.
Thanks again for watching
