Erriyon, as a former NCAA All American who had a devastating running injury at age 22 due to sprinting at “101%” I wish to say “protect your hamstrings“. Always run smooth and relaxed, even in the Olympic finals against The Jamaicans. Your hamstrings are you most valuable asset. No one really recovers from injury to them so ALWAYS run relaxed and at 98% to 99% sprint effort. Don’t strain.
Hamstring injuries are pretty easy to avoid these days with advances in technology, training systems, tracks, physiotherapy, etc. I love watching pro track and have watched pretty much all of the major races from this year and last year. The only one I can remember where someone pulled a hammy was the olympic final, the nigerian guy who pulled up halfway. The number 1 reason for pulling a hamstring is fatigue. Thats why so many people in the past used to get injured because all of the old training systems basically pushed sprinters to the limit every single session. Nowadays people know better then to sprint when they are fatigued. You are definitely right about running relaxed but I disagree with never running at 100%. In a 200m maybe just because of the pressure on energy systems but in a 100m you should not be scared to go all out. Its what you have trained for and being afraid to do it will probably increase your chances of injury.
@@killiancurran5143 Whatever it takes to avoid a hamstring injury I support. Its an extremely serious injury, you either have had one and understand the repercussions or you dont. BTW national championships and olympic gold medals and world records can be won and set when a sprinter is not pushing it to the limit (100%). Its a fairly easy concept to execute as well.
@@killiancurran5143 Never go all out. Do you even sprint my guy? There's strategy and pacing even in the 100m. I hate this attitude of "I'm fast now listen to everything I say". No thanks, I'll listen to my coach who is an olympian and has been coaching for 25 years. If you have brilliant acceleration but then slow down it is a problem with you speed endurance, not that you went out too hard. If you consciously don't go at 100% then you are going to run slower. And when I say 100% I don't mean reaching for the finish line with every step and becoming tight. You can run all out but be relaxed and fluid at the same time, it is just difficult to do. The ATP-PC system lasts for approximately 10 seconds. That means if you run 11 seconds for 100m there will only be 1 seconds in the race where energy isn't immediately available. So if you run below 100% for an entire race you are wasting a tonne of time and energy. The way I run it is go hard for 30-40, relax and float for 40-60 and then go 100% for the last 40m. Is a bad idea to go all out for an entire race? Probably. Is it a good idea to never go all out? Fuck no, that just makes no sense
