Dude, we were in actual Nacogdoches, and had a local premiere with Bruce, Don, and Joe. Couldn't have timed my college years any better. (that's a unisex "Dude" btw.)

I was fortunate to have seen it at the Tower Theater in Sacramento. I thought at the time that this is the greatest concept for a movie I've ever heard; I need to see this.

This is how I learned of it too! Some free passes came my way and I never passed up free movies. I went in with zero knowledge and it was fantastic. Still is!

Bubba Hotep is to horror what Logan is to superheroes, an exploration of aging, legacy, and views on life

I used to write crazy short stories like this that people used to love. I might start doing that again.

Try to get them published into one book. That's how Clive Barker made it as a writer and he has written so much amazing horror and fantasy since then.

Bubba Ho-Tep is one of those films that just pulls you right in. Well acted all around, some creepy atmospheric moments, and oh that scarab!

I found it in the used bargain section at Blockbuster. Had no idea i was getting one of his best flicks, a batshit story and Ozzie Davis as freak'n JFK. Chef's kiss

I remember seeing this DVD on the shelf while browsing movies in my local Movie Gallery, that's how i came to see it. I really miss those days. The adventure of the rental store is something we can never get back, but I'm blessed to have grown up in that era.

Anyone who's spent any time in Nacogdoches, TX, will tell you that this story is entirely possible.
Also, Joe Lansdale is the greatest writing professor anyone could ever have, and a true mensch.

I want to see that Nosferatu sequel 😱. I would have loved to see this in the theater. Fortunately, good old SciFi channel aired it in the late hours of the night, which was my exposure. 🤓

This is a great movie. It's a great parable. Overall, the film is about how the elderly can get forgotten or discarded, and it uses two cultural icons (Elvis and JFK) in that situation for us to relate to.

I love this film. I'm a huge Joe Lansdale fan. He is hugely underrated in my opinion. I've gotten the chance to meet him and he talks to his fans directly on his FB page. His story COLD IN JULY was also made into a film with Michael C Hall, Sam Shepard, and Don Johnson. It's a good crime/thriller film and a much more grounded story. Some of his short stories have been adapted in each volume of Love Death & Robots. As well as the newer Creepshow. Another of his books has been optioned for some time now, hopefully it's getting made soon. It's his Western THE THICKET and Peter Dinklage has been attached to it for some time. There's a character in it he's been wanting to play for years. I hope it gets made, it's a great story. And once upon a time Bill Paxton was supposed to direct a movie based off of Lansdale's THE BOTTOMS. Sadly he passed away before he could get it done. And I wish the Hap and Leonard show could have gone longer. It was great. RIP Bill Paxton, Ossie Davis, Michael K Williams, and Sam Shepard. Man, that's a lot of gone talent and good people right there.

_Bubba Ho-Tep_ was too much of a slow SLOW burn of a film for me, so tempted to fast-forward.🙁
Being a Black '80s baby and '90s teen who loves Horror I definitely enjoyed the cast, being that I had a connection to them already before film.🙂
It have not watched _Bubba Ho-Tep_ in about 14 to 16 years, maybe it is time to give the film another view through these older patient eyes.🤓

It's the dialogue that I love.
"She didn't mind if I got a birdseye view of her love nest, to her I was as harmless as a house cat. I felt my pecker flutter once like a pigeon having a heart attack, then lay back down still and limp".

It's a very strange movie, and the pacing is quite slow. It's less of a silly action movie, and more of a poignant reflection on aging.
