I grew up listening to the BBC and Voice of America. Need I say more? The most salient isolate among the triad is the PAUSE. One does not have to be a learner of the English language to be a bad speaker of the language or be bereft of the power of the pause. America is replete with horrible English speakers. Mostly, I think, because America is not a classical culture. I would walk around the train station in Rome...just to listen to departures and arrivals in the Italian language: La lingua musicale (a language musically conceived). Jayne, for a real New Yorker, you are perfect in speech.
