To all the bashers, haters, and atheists who are negatively commenting on Sinulog, saying that it is too Commercialized. You have to research it first before criticizing and condemning it. What does the Sinulog mean for all local Cebuanos? What is the Sinulog? What is its significance?
Sinulog has a huge Religious and Economic impacts to all Cebuanos. The Religious impact, Sinulog is very important to every Cebuano, both its religious and cultural aspects. This 500-year-old image is believed miraculous because of the countless answered prayers including healings over the centuries. April 14, 2021, marks the 500th anniversary of Catholicism and Christianity coming to the Philippines. More than 500 years, Filipinos, most especially local Cebuanos, have honored Senyor Sto. Niño, the Holy Child Jesus, since its arrival in Cebu in 1521. Cebu City is the cradle of Christianity in the far east, not just in the Philippines.
And all faithful local Cebuanos take part in every Sinulog celebration, Rain or Shine. To show their gratitude to the Holy Child.
Sinulog Festival is more than just street dancing, parade, dance ritual competition, street parties, cultural events; it's a celebration of faith and honoring Senyor Sto. Niño, the Holy Child Jesus.
Sinulog is rooted deep in history, far beyond the festival’s inauguration. This is part of the rich heritage and unique culture of the Cebuanos, most specially local Cebuanos in Cebu City.
And the Economic Impact, Sinulog festival has spurred the construction of more hotels, condominiums, resorts, restaurants, shops, and other places of entertainment. This annual event has complemented other attractions in Cebu as a center of trade and domestic shipping, a resort city, an IT outsourcing city, and as an educational center. Sinulog has helped create more jobs and more income.
Cebu’s economic growth is consistently higher than the economic growth of the entire country.
Cebu is the largest in the Philippines according to the Philippine Statistics Authority. In 2019, the Cebuano economy peaked at $6 billion, making it the largest in the nation.
The economic effects of the Sinulog on Cebu City and Cebu Province are quite significant. In terms of additional expenditures, in the one-month span of the event from preparation to culmination, P2 billion to P3 billion is spent by the private sector and the government.

I admire your comment here sir.. this is very true.. however, if we are to understand what's behind these bashers haters... It's because of jealousy... To remedy that, let's be humble and be friendly to them... Cebu... Be humble always.. God is with us. 😊

The 3 million estimate was for the solemn penitential walk in the afternoon. There was no estimated number for the people joining the fluvial parade. It was the number of boats/vessels that the Coast Guard count to be at over 400 who joined but only 200 were registered. So I'm sure those island hopping boats joining the fluvial parade weren't registered because they must be spectators, not official participants.
