Dan you actually buried yourself here. Watched every chiefs game the past 5 years. Chris jones as great as he is - isn’t a dominate force against the run- it’s actually one of his only weaknesses. The pass rushing from the interior is where he will be missed immensely. Yeah they play Trevor+ARodg early in the year but most the elite qbs they play are after week 8 -> Hurts/Allen/Burrow/Herby

People underestimate how compromised your offense can be, if you can't stop the run on the defensive side. Running the ball eats up the clock and gives the opponent fewer possessions and keeps your defense fresh.

But our backup lineman are great at stopping the run. They aren't nearly as good at pass rushing. And that scares me because we don't have much of an edge rush either

Chris Jones is not a run stuffer…actually is very middle statically in the NFL against the run, however he is the best interior defender against the pass. The pressure he creates, double teams which open others to get pressure, his sacks, and pass breakups make him a beast up the middle against the pass. Also, right now the Chiefs are not locked in with at edge rush, and Omenihu is suspended the first 6 weeks. The AFC is stacked with the leagues best QBs… defending the pass, not the run is what I’m most concerned with with CJ possibly continuing to holdout. Plus, how long will it take for him to get back into football shape and top tier defender stats once he is back?
A missing part of the defense makes a challege but the Chiefs are very experience in the tough games for a Win. Go Chiefs!!
