    ★★ WHAT THIS VIDEO IS ABOUT★★
    In this video we are going to have a look at some extra symbols from the IPA that we often use when transcribing in IPA. You have probably noticed them before, e.g. in the word ‘extraordinary’ or transcribed as:
    /ɪkˈstrɔː.dɪn.ər.i/
    It’s all the funny little symbols - apart from the sound symbols - that I’m talking about. They can be put into 2 groups: suprasegmentals & diacritics. In this video we are going to have a look at the most common one that you will need when transcribing in English.

    .One question, I ofen see in phonetic discription somewhere is wrten Capital I and some somewhre i .what's reason its.

    • @BillieEnglish
      @BillieEnglish  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are 2 different sets of symbols: the IPA symbols which require you to use a separate keyboard (these days you can use them online) and the SAMPA which is also an alphabet to transcribe but the symbols are all found on the normal computer keyboard.
      for example, the word 'available':
      IPA: /əˈveɪ.lə.bəl/
      SAMPA: @veIl@b@l
      Maybe this is what you have seen? The short /ɪ/ in IPA is a capital I in SAMPA.
