I found Incendies because it is in IMDB's top 250 highest rated films of all time. I imagine a lot of people get it from there and spread it around through word of mouth.
I kinda want a whole anime series of it. The world of Blade Runner is very underused, theres so many directions and brilliant plots that could be mined from it.
My brother gave me such a hard time when I first told him (back in the 1980’s) that B R was my favourite Sci Fi movie. Now he loves it, and he can’t, “remember,” ever not liking it. But his creased brow and sarcasm about B R being dull and boring are fixed in my memory. Sometimes I wonder if we just delete what is not in the cultural, “norm,” from our memories, and get programmed into following the mainstream, through our, “interlinked,” web services? Perhaps we’re the servants?

yeah DADOES is so dark and unsettling, and has all this crazy stuff about religion and the social hierarchy caused by having people with varying degrees of genetic damage from radiation. Would definitely make for an awesome analysis video.
well the writers, artists, directors and the whole line of people working on these adaptations must certainly know about him and love his work otherwise it would not be adapted so much. who cares about public recognition when you can yourself work on these kind of projects ? trust me, in the entertainment industry,eeeeeeveryone knows about pk dick
an in depth review of how all of Phillip K. Dick's 85(ish) short stories are related to each other would be interesting albeit admittedly a very daunting and complicated task but at the same time a labor of love that only a true geek would even attempt. possibly a series of interrelated themes and concepts that appeared in most of his stories would be easier and do each story justice.
I've always inferred that replicants have some kind of spirit animal , I mean the snake the dove the owl THE UNICORN and for the one girl replicant who doesn't perhaps she has not developed her own emotions yet she's is seen almost short circuiting when "dying" leading us to think of a technical problem we so often see in our computers or perhaps she used Sebastian as her animal

I think you overlooked the more important philosophy of Blade Runner...well, more along the lines of psychology of Blade Runner. Deckard isn’t a replica (he really is human), but it’s easy to understand how and why people came up with that theory. You see, he behaves more like a machine than machines do. He’s given the task of hunting down the replicas, and he does it; without question. His methods even seem quite callous at times. Throughout the film we find ourselves empathizing more with the replicas than with Deckard. The interesting thing about Roy is that he goes through a process of de-evolution. He’s a machine in the pursuit of a human goal, but by the end of the movie his behavior is more like that of a wild animal.
The interesting thing is the philosophy of "Do Androids Dream..." that hypothesized that even the Nexus 6 had terrible E.Q. and lacked empathy, a major programming disadvantage. Phillip K. Dick must've thought A.I. would never master empathy.
Okay so this anime confirms that Deckard is a replicant. Here is how; notice how at the start it says that Nexus 8 has a natural lifespan, as opposed to Nexus 6's 4 years? Based on some of the Nexus 8's profiles in these Anime, they were active in 2019/2022. This means that Deckard was probably one of the first prototypes of Nexus 8. That is why he is still "alive" in 2049. Also, because of demolition of the datacenter and the EMP, there is no way of telling who the replicants are or their whereabout, hence Deckard says in the new trailer "how did you find me?".
Some of this Philosophy, that you are your memories, is refuted by studies. Alzheimer's patients and people with severe amnesia, have been reported as having, by their friends and relatives, the same personalities they had as before. Somethings may change like their learned morality, but for the most part, people with memory loss remain themselves.
Interesting, but only seems to highlight the difference between the external experience of someone (not changing with Alzheimer's) and the internal lived experience (could I really be myself if someone edited, deleted or created new memories).It seems hard to create a scientifically rigorous experiment to prove/disprove the internal experience of self. Perhaps we will know more once we start creating artificial intelligences but media like Blade Runner seems to show us that even if we had the means, we would still be debating the philosophy of self.

The eye is an obvious window for our perception, the doll itself without a mind is just a physical body or shell, and the timing of the dove being released upon death along with how symbolic their being very bright, pure white is evocative of soul departing and ascending to the heavens.
I think the dove represents the replicant afterlife. The girl replicant asks the guy replicant in the car "If we die, do we go to heaven?". And right before she dies, a dove flies over, representing at least something supernatural that's attributed only to replicants. Same thing with Roy and right before he dies in the first bladerunner.
Deckard IS a replicant. Its the only thing that explains his lack of remorse for his actions, its why he ultimately did the same thing and defied his own programming as a replicant killer and saved rachel. Durrr, plus the unicorn in his dreams is pretty loud.

I think Deckard is definitely a Replicant, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if he was an entire model line of Replicants designed to hunt other Replicants and when one gets to old they just replace it with a newer model.

I'd say it's a karmic tale where even people who do evil things for "justice" are punished for their crimes (save for Toby who in the original play went mad from revelation), and shows just how far revenge can push a person.

X - And the last things to go through my mind was my 3 kiddies Jen, Leah & Lew - the girl I should have married Paulla & The last thing before the darkness was Rutger Hauer sat cross legged in the rain givin his teardrops in the rain speech before he lets go of the dove (Ridley Scotts symbol of his spirit goiing to the heavens because he did'nt own one I suppose) - An that was it, the last thing I thought of before I fainted - I did not realise the shape I was in untill I woke up 23 hours later - All tubed up & Plumbed in to a life support machine ??? All family was there ! - And I had to communicate through Pen & Paper ! I find that to be an interesting interpretation of the theme. What makes us human and so on. I just remember when I watched Blade Runner I was deeply disturbed by the likeness of the replicants. Yes I know human actors are playing them but the way they fought, talk , and bleed was critical to the film. The fact on how replicants are made are also important I think as well. I don't find Data from Star Trek upsetting nor do I fine the human Android in Aliens to be upsetting either. There where clear differences and lines that I felt in the first place should have never been crossed in the beginning in this world that where and essentially being crossed.

You really need to watch them both, watch the first blade runner the final cut not the other versions and trust me the more you'll think about it and rewatch it thr more you'll love it the second one is also amazing but very slow so if don't expect huge a action scenes etc, and the background music is called "i can't remember i can't recall"

I have a question, why are robot hunting bounty hunters called blade runners? How do the words blade and runner correlate to seeking and destroying robots?
An Electromagnetic Pulse won't work in a rebuilt infrastructure that uses fiber optics, which would have been the standard after the limited Third World War in Philip K. Dick's *Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep*. And besides, all the military would need to do is house their computers in a large faraday cage or under 2 meters thick concrete, like they do today. But, I give them props for correctly knowing that a hiroshima size bomb detonated 3 kilometers (just under 2 miles) over Los Angeles would, apart from the brilliant flash and wind, create an EMP wave.
Of course he's not a robot. That would undermine the entirety of the plot and his character, and it brings up a lot of questions, if he was a robot, why didn't he have super strength?
+SSmotzer You did not understand the plot. You do not understand how robots work either. I will give you a hint though, robots can be programed however the operators want. There is no hard rule that demands all robots have super strength, for instance.
Okay, then why would the titular blade runners use weak easily killed replicants, which were completely illegal on Earth, to hunt and "retire" super strong and highly durable replicants on Earth? And why would a replicant have the ability to quit their job? Wouldn't leaving the blade runners immediately call for "retirement?" And in the theatrical release of the movie, it is painfully clear that Deckard is human. Over the years Ridley Scott kept hearing fan theories that Deckard was a replicant, and he just fell in love with the idea, and so in every release after the theatrical one, he kept adding more and more things into the movie to push the idea that he is a replicant. Deckard is even racist towards and sexually uses Rachael because he has a superiority complex, and just likes using her because he know she isn't human. Deckard is a sad emotionless sociopathic human, and nearly every replicant he meets in the movie display far more humanity than he does, and that's the point of the movie, that humans are less human than the machines we build. If Deckard was a replicant that whole part of the story means nothing, and goes against the entire message of the movie.
+SSmotzer You just answered your own question. If Deckard was super strong it would not take Sherlock Holmes to figure out he was an illegal Replicant, would it? But maybe Deckard has other more subtle powers? In any event he was certainly tough enough to do the job. Quitting, waiting for the next assignment, what's the difference? Semantics. Deckard still took out all of the skin jobs when he was tasked with the assignment.
The problem with that is Deckard thinks he is human, and the company that makes replicants only recently developed a replicant that is as close to a human as possible, with implanted memories and everything. The only way that makes sense is if Deckard was activated just before the opening of the movie, and him being a retired blade runner is just implanted memories, and he is the same model as Rachel, making him the second most expensive replicant ever made. So then why would the company send their most expensive and delicate product into action against military grade replicants? That would be like putting your rolls royce into a demolition derby.
Rachel has a Nexus-7 serial number as confirmed in 2049. And if Deckard is replicant, and that's a big IF, it's likely he'd be an N-7 too. Greetings from the future!

Totally agree with the idea of the dove as a rep of freedom. So many different forms of freedom. I like best the idea of the freedom from the burden of the pursuit of purpose. That is what in death I am most looking forward to.

The dove represented the acquisition of a spirit. You completely missed the Roy Batty / Christ symbolism heavy in the film. Why does Wisecrack just analyze everything from a Post-Modern lens? Seems rather myopic, no?

Holy shit. Blade Runner was very in sci-fi anime inturned infuleced western sci-films. To see it come full circal to 2022 is mind blowingly cool.

X - And the last things to go through my mind was my 3 kiddies Jen, Leah & Lew - the girl I should have married Paulla & The last thing before the darkness was Rutger Hauer sat cross legged in the rain givin his teardrops in the rain speech before he lets go of the dove (Ridley Scotts symbol of his spirit goiing to the heavens because he did'nt own one I suppose) - An that was it, the last thing I thought of before I fainted - I did not realise the shape I was in untill I woke up 23 hours later - All tubed up & Plumbed in to a life support machine ??? All family was there ! - And I had to communicate through Pen & Paper !
So there it is - technically the last thought I had was of this amazing piece on Bladerunner - Ad libbed by Rutger Hauer himself as th cameras were rolling !

I find that to be an interesting interpretation of the theme. What makes us human and so on. I just remember when I watched Blade Runner I was deeply disturbed by the likeness of the replicants. Yes I know human actors are playing them but the way they fought, talk , and bleed was critical to the film. The fact on how replicants are made are also important I think as well. I don't find Data from Star Trek upsetting nor do I fine the human Android in Aliens to be upsetting either. There where clear differences and lines that I felt in the first place should have never been crossed in the beginning in this world that where and essentially being crossed.

You really need to watch them both, watch the first blade runner the final cut not the other versions and trust me the more you'll think about it and rewatch it thr more you'll love it the second one is also amazing but very slow so if don't expect huge a action scenes etc, and the background music is called "i can't remember i can't recall"

I have a question, why are robot hunting bounty hunters called blade runners? How do the words blade and runner correlate to seeking and destroying robots?
An Electromagnetic Pulse won't work in a rebuilt infrastructure that uses fiber optics, which would have been the standard after the limited Third World War in Philip K. Dick's *Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep*. And besides, all the military would need to do is house their computers in a large faraday cage or under 2 meters thick concrete, like they do today.
But, I give them props for correctly knowing that a hiroshima size bomb detonated 3 kilometers (just under 2 miles) over Los Angeles would, apart from the brilliant flash and wind, create an EMP wave.

Of course he's not a robot. That would undermine the entirety of the plot and his character, and it brings up a lot of questions, if he was a robot, why didn't he have super strength?
+SSmotzer You did not understand the plot. You do not understand how robots work either. I will give you a hint though, robots can be programed however the operators want. There is no hard rule that demands all robots have super strength, for instance.
Okay, then why would the titular blade runners use weak easily killed replicants, which were completely illegal on Earth, to hunt and "retire" super strong and highly durable replicants on Earth? And why would a replicant have the ability to quit their job? Wouldn't leaving the blade runners immediately call for "retirement?"
And in the theatrical release of the movie, it is painfully clear that Deckard is human.
Over the years Ridley Scott kept hearing fan theories that Deckard was a replicant, and he just fell in love with the idea, and so in every release after the theatrical one, he kept adding more and more things into the movie to push the idea that he is a replicant.
Deckard is even racist towards and sexually uses Rachael because he has a superiority complex, and just likes using her because he know she isn't human. Deckard is a sad emotionless sociopathic human, and nearly every replicant he meets in the movie display far more humanity than he does, and that's the point of the movie, that humans are less human than the machines we build.
If Deckard was a replicant that whole part of the story means nothing, and goes against the entire message of the movie.
+SSmotzer You just answered your own question. If Deckard was super strong it would not take Sherlock Holmes to figure out he was an illegal Replicant, would it? But maybe Deckard has other more subtle powers? In any event he was certainly tough enough to do the job. Quitting, waiting for the next assignment, what's the difference? Semantics. Deckard still took out all of the skin jobs when he was tasked with the assignment.
The problem with that is Deckard thinks he is human, and the company that makes replicants only recently developed a replicant that is as close to a human as possible, with implanted memories and everything.
The only way that makes sense is if Deckard was activated just before the opening of the movie, and him being a retired blade runner is just implanted memories, and he is the same model as Rachel, making him the second most expensive replicant ever made. So then why would the company send their most expensive and delicate product into action against military grade replicants? That would be like putting your rolls royce into a demolition derby.
