Power to the Springer, no limit on how many pellets to shoot , no worries about air refills , no air leaks , no jam-ups with loading .
Springers are King , nice video

I'm still using a FWB 124 mk2, bought in 1982. Works a treat, never has let me down. That said I do use a pcp with silencer for pest control where I don't want to spook the prey with the muzzle report. I've been lucky with my pcp (AA s400) it has been totally faultless in well over 20 years of use.

Decent springer and the self-contained package is a winner.
Decent PCPs are a joy to shoot, but they do make you complacent and there is a bit of kit and maintenance, O-rings and tank filling.

Hi Vin, Spot on. Never owned a PCP. Won't start now. My go to gun is my HW80 i bought in 1988. Probably because i am so familiar with it. You have to maintain your standard with a springer which is what i like. Keep up the interesting videos.

Very well explained Vince, Thanks 👍Love your FWB sport and i also prefer a springer. There are situations i like to shoot my S410 but it's no challenge to shoot it but for pest control in a little hide you don't want to move to much and than i prefer the S410 and as you said the follow up shots. I also don't like to have a springer cocked for a longer time but it seems to be no problem with a quality springs. Today i was able to shoot outside with my HW35. I use that HW for hunting and swap the 4-12 Hawke scope for a 2-7 Hawke. I do save some weight, is more compact and 2-7 is more then enough for my way of hunting. Great video Buddy!

Thanks buddy. Yeah I appreciate the ability to follow up but by god it's alot of money to pay for. For rats and feral pigeons where there maybe opportunities for several multiple shots in quick succession I get that also, but again it's a lot of money to pay for. 👍👍 Those little 2-7s are great mate 👍👍

@@vincentenglish8489 Agree Vince, it's a lot of money for only the rifle and than more money for all the tralala that coms with it. A hobby cost money and i feel if i have pleasure with it than i can live with that. I own many quality springers and i will buy more of them if a model i do like will cross my path if the price good, but a second pcp is no option. Every springer has in my opinion a personality but pcp's shoot all the same.

Nice shooting. I agree, shooting springers at closer ranges are just as effective as using PCPs. I feel PCPs are popular because they don’t have the needed learning curve. Unfortunately nowadays, most people want the easiest route and have no sense of pride in learning a difficult discipline. I own both spring powered and PCP. Shooting PCP gets boring. Although here in the US , because we don’t have power limits we can shoot longer distances more effectively, so PCPs are very popular. Mastering the wind beyond 100 yards is more important than having a top dollar PCP.

    Hello Vince,
Thank you for your latest air rifle video and informative conversation. I always like listening to you. Someone older and more experienced. Seeing what they're thinking and doing.
I politely think you may be a little hard on yourself.
In the beginning, we had spring air rifles. Quite basic, heavy, and primitive by comparison. We had to practice, and those that wanted it bad and wanted to be good were usually successful.
Then, pcp's came along. Could I humbly say it was like going from kick start to electronic ignition, lol.
The rifles were lighter. They had magazines, cocking levers, so a quick follow up shot was mouth watering and not the impossible fumble of a springer.
Yes, Vince, I agree, pcp's are easier to shoot and be accurate with. Though, aren't they fantastic, too! Yes, you need a dive bottle, but look at all the shots you get on one fill.
Springers can never replace pcp's and vice versa. I remember being a teenager. Theoben were making their gas ram air rifles and their new at the time magazine fed Rapid. I hadn't a hope of owning one, though would have killed for one. I'd thumb through my dad's Airgun World, looking at the pictures, before I replaced it exactly as I found it, before he arrived home from work.
Even as an adult, air rifles were dad's territory, and it wasn't for me to tread. In the eighties, children were seen and not heard. That impacted adulthood and a life's path too.
I look now at both, springers and pcp's, Vince. I have them now, some of what I dreamed of as a youngster. For me, they're both fantastic. I gain great satisfaction with being accurate with a springer. The barrel blueing, barrel lock up, wanut/beech stock, just gorgeous. When I've spent time with a springer, I go to a gorgeous walnut stocked pcp. It has a magazine, cocking lever, telescopic sights. It's accurate, gorgeous, lighter weight. It looks fantastic and doesn't recoil. It's engineering, mechanics make my knees tremble. I pull the cocking lever for my next shot. The magazine revolves, and my next shot is ready to go. Absolute genius.
They are two different parts to our fantastic airgunning hobby/interest. I adore both of them and couldn't do without either of them
They both make my airgunning experience complete, and I adore both. I just embrace both of them and enjoy the pro's they both bring.
    Best wishes, Vince, Ian.

Hi Ian, fantastic comment my friend. I agree mostly with what you say you have very valid points. Let me use an analogy to show you where I'm coming from. Apart from shooting I thoroughly enjoy woodworking, when I started out on that journey it was the case I had to have the latest tools, the expensive router, the stupidly expensive table saw and thicknesser/planer and so on. Yes they done the job superbly but it turned me into an automaton behind a machine, provided I could accurately set the tools up and measure it was job done. One day I was chatting to an old chippy (carpenter) and showing him my work etc and he says to me very good mate now let's see you do it with hand tools. Suffice to say I got into hand tool woodworking and actually discovered you needed skill and patience, not to mention the huge satisfaction you get from using your hands and tools from almost a bygone era to create something beautiful. Nowadays I use almost exclusively hand tools because that's where the skills at. In my eyes the PCPs are like power tools needing only very basic skills to master whereas the springers are like hand tools requiring patience, dedication and skill to master.... but either way of course the end result in both cases is the same. 👍👍👍👍

      Hi Vince,
Thank you very much for your comment. I enjoyed reading what you wrote, and as well as absolutely agreeing and understanding your points, it seems we have a lot in common.
Growing up, I wasn't really academic in any capacity. All I was interested in was making things, wanting my own air rifle and fishing. My father wouldn't allow me my own air rifle, or, tools, for the fear of me cutting myself on saws, chisels, etc.
My twin brother was academic and an artist. At school, he was in all the top sets and, by far, the best artist. That was tough as we were supposed to be treated equally, though we weren't.
I began building my own tool kit with my house purchase in my early twenties. With no experience, I'd soon built my own floor to ceiling wardrobe in my alcove.
I loved building anything. Designing things myself, you could have whatever you wished for, within reason. I built my own cupboards and, fly tying stack-cupboard system, all unique to me. I've no workshop, I haven't the room, just a kitchen, hand tools and a will to achieve.
I was forty-seven when we lost our dearly loved father and, shortly after, unintentionally began my air rifling journey. At fifty, after suffering severe stomach cramps, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, six-twelve months to live. They told me to get rid of my wealth, book my place in the local hospice, and write my will. I'm a postie. I had people I didn't know lighting candles for me in churches. I was blessed.
Ten weeks later, being called back to the specialists, they then told me it probably wouldn't be what I would die of.
During that spell, I had a Weihrauch HW80K. I'd wanted one since being twelve years old. I hated its lacklustre, dull, miserable gunstock. To me, it wasn't worthy of the honour of carrying the iconic HW80K action.
So, I set myself a task before I died. I was going to make the most exciting gunstock I could possibly make, all with hand tools. I was going to make Mr Weihrauch proud. How was I going to do this??
My gunstock was going to be exciting, exhilarating, dynamic, ferocious, and eye-catching. It was based on five predators, a Hawks claw, a Sabre Toothed Tiger/Cobra snake, a jumping Puma, and an American Fish Eagle. Not carbon copies but suggestions.
The stock was laminated using Walnut and Ash. All the laminations were hand sawn, each lamination taking two hours.
With regret, the only electrical tool I used was a router for the action cut out, no other electricity. That was tough, as I'd never used a router before.
I photographed the journey and have a booklet profiling every step of the build.
The journey took around two months, with Christmas in between, and was finished in time to take to last years British Shooting Show 2023.
My gunstock isn't the genius of Minelli. I just wanted to show what was achievable by an ordinary person working with hand tools from his kitchen, trying to make a gunstock worthy of carrying the iconic break barrel air rifle of its time. I did my very best, showing my love of and using hand tools and not being a craftsman.
It is extremely special to me. It represents a certain time in my life and what can be achieved by ordinary people who really try. Anything you want to achieve, have a go, you've nothing to lose. What's the worst that can happen?
I'm sorry to rabble. Thank you for reading. Ian.
Ps. Since I made my Weihrauch HW80K gunstock, Weihrauch changed their gunstock design of the HW80K and significantly improved it.

Great points about PCP versus springers, springers are ultimately better I think as you explained grab the gun and a tin of pellets and you’re good to go until your pellets run out or a PCP until your air’s gone.

I have a webley tracker in which was bought in 1981 or 82 and that gun has had nothing done to the internals apart from a grease up and it still hits the mark. The only thing it’s had is a new stock because I accidentally found one new one online a couple of years ago and it’s made the gun look new. I’m the same seriously thinking of letting my pcp go and just using springers, my pro sport in 177 is absolutely bloody awesome as is my 97k in 22 just to name a couple.

@@russellham2094 Yes I totally agree, I’d always wanted one years ago but they didn’t do them for us lefties, then last year I said when I can get at my pension this year I’m going to get the pinnacle of all airguns and that my own opinion too. I went for 177 as that’s my preferred calibre these days and it’s so dam accurate and the shooting cycle is the smoothest I’ve ever shot. Then of course there is the looks, it’s just a stunning rifle to look at and the walnut stock is just the best.
The 97 again is one hell of a rifle and this one is in 22 for using in farm buildings for feral and rats and it’s absolutely spot on but the trigger is no way as good as the pro sport and that’s saying something because the rekord triggers are renowned for quality but it’s just not quite as good.

Fair comment my friend. I would counter that somewhat by saying a springer being hold sensitive is a good thing because it'll teach you to shoot better by improving your hold techniques. All PCPs have done for me is made me sloppy and lazy with my techniques for being almost too easy to shoot accurately. As for the FWB and HW comparison that would be subjective, but nonetheless both are fine pieces of German engineering 👍👍👍 thanks for the great comment buddy 👍

Only thing is my two Tuned BSA R10's .177 & .22 and add my plinker Crossman Victory 2 .177 are whisper quiet pellet on pellet accurate with AA Fields or JSP, I do love a Springer but not the noise or single shot for hunting at ranges over 30m now,
All my teenage years I used Springers with Iron sights and William Tell could not have out shot me, believe it or not I could take a string of Trout home picking them off in small shallow streams or Burns as we call them in Scotland, but back then my Springers power would be classed as lets just say PC Plod would not be happy with it today as we made our own Springs or shimmed the buggers up till they could break in half an empty whisky bottle at 30 yards that was our power level chronograph. lol
Sold my last German 35 Springer last year maybe I made a mistake but I wanted to go all British built BSA Airguns and BSA do not make a decent new Springer.
But if a mint second hand springer rocks my boat I may have another. lol

    • @vincentenglish8489
      @vincentenglish8489  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Great comment buddy. Yup I get the follow up shot ability, but here's the kicker, is that in itself overrated. By that I mean if you're regularly needing to take follow up shots something should be telling you you're not shooting within your ability to produce one shot one kills. Yup concur with the noise issue, a silenced PCP is whisper quiet something a springer would have difficulty competing with. I believe the ability to have a very quick reload that PCPs have is excellent when you have multiple targets (think rats/ferals), then again realistically how often does that happen for an average airgunner? This in own right can be a problem with people getting trigger happy and shooting too fast... just for an example watch some rat shooting videos on TH-cam and see how many shooters get carried away blatting of rounds and producing wounding shots. Once again thanks for the comment buddy 👍👍👍

Very good point and a fair comment buddy. I did a video showing why I had different springers and the reasoning behind it. I'll cover it again, my daily carry around the farm gun is a 99s, it's light and does the job, I've been using that rifle 4 years plus and know it inside out. The other guns I have either picked up for specific jobs or because it's nice to use a different rifle. You're perfectly correct in that you need to learn the rifles characteristics and a good way to do it is to use a lot. However there is a caveat to this and that is a half decent shot should pretty much be able to pick up another rifle and still be capable with it. 👍👍
