Mercury-S was my first air rifle. Got it in about 1982 when I was 14 and still have it somewhere in the attic. Hasn’t fired a pellet in over 30 years so would need a thorough service if it isn’t rusted up solid. Loved that gun, especially the walnut stock and the way the piston block curved seamlessly into the stock at the back. Just gorgeous. I feel a visit into the attic is now required !!! Like your vids, keep ‘em coming, 👍
Beautiful mercury-s you have there. It is a Mercury -s MK1 (81-83) then it was Mercury -s mk11. Back in the day my friends had hw80 hw35 Original 45 Fwb sport etc. I had a Mercury-s and it killed everything the German guns could. It was just as accurate and powerful and super smooth. A very overlooked gun in its time and it really was as good as anything available. I still have mine to this day and also another one as I love them so much. I was devastated when BSA stopped making their air guns in Birmingham and let's be honest the Spanish made ones were/are utter rubbish. If it doesn't say made in Birmingham on it then it's not a BSA. I also have a standard mercury MK2 and two Mk6 airsporters and a MK1 airsporter-s as well as all of the break barrel German classics. The magical mercury-s is my favourite of all. Thanks for making this video 😊
Hi Vin, Nice to see you again, looking well. I'd have loved my dad taking me to our local gun shop, for a new air rifle. You'd have had to peel me off the ceiling! I didn't have a hope, and I wanted one so much. The fact I wasn't go be trusted with one, really hurt. I wasn't a problem child and had never been in trouble with the Police etc. There was no need to be so selfish and deny somebody something they really, really wanted. That lack of trust affected me in ways I'm only now realising, much later in life. My dad was a shooter, both shotguns and air rifles. Iwas around them, but never allowed to be involved, so selfish and needless. I look forward to your video, and seeing how your BSA shoots. Best wishes, Ian.
Beautiful rifle, Vin! I can tell by the way you look at it, that you truly enjoy it. My first proper air rifle was a Bavaria 55, I bought in 1979. I still have it. Scott
Just doing the finishes touches to restoring my BSA Mercury. It was my first air rifle when I was sixteen.Have put a Welsh Willie spring kit in it & have just ordered the new parachute piston seals from Welsh Willie to fit. The Welsh Willie kit makes the BSA Mercury so smooth to shoot & cock.

Hi I remember my mercury s back in 1986 shot many a pest with it beautiful rifles mine suffered with barrel breach movement and had to keep nipping the breach up in the vise but still a lovely riffle have fun and enjoy .
Well that brings back memories. As a child my first air rifle was the Meteor, my dad got it for me to keep pests under control round the farm but it didn’t stay long at all as it had no power. Next birthday Dad replaced it with the Mercury. That’s over 40 years ago. The Mercury was my first PROPER air rifle and to this day it’s the rifle that set the standard by which all others are measured for me. It accounted for more pests than anything I’ve ever had since. It was in .22 and I used Eley Wasp pellets. It was so accurate and nice to shoot. My GP at the time was into air rifles and he took me to a FT competition. I got 3rd place with the standard iron sights. Folks couldn’t believe it! Never done another FT shoot since-wish I had done now. I kept it until it was totally worn out, not sure how many years-a lot! Remember trading it in for a HW77 many years later. Very fond memories-wish I still had it. Thanks for sharing.
Great to see you back Vin - A rifle that I've been looking for for a while - especially the S with the adjustable pivot bolt - no wibbly wobbly barrel with that. Keep smiling mate. I look forwards to the next Video Vin - Keep up the great work - Cheers Steve

Great to see you back Vin with a big smile! Congratulations on that beautiful Mercury S. Looking forward to the range video. I recently bought a mk3 for very little money. I was pleasantly surprised at how accurate it was even compared to modern rifles. Take care.
Interesting your comments regarding the trigger. I've still got my mk6 Airsporter which ive had since i was maybe 14 or 15 (it was s/h then). I always think the plastic trigger and foresight are a little disappointing. The trigger is very much a heavy squeeze forever until it breaks vs so light it might go off unintentionally 😮 I'm very much sentimentally attached to it though!

@@Lander76 hi buddy. I'm going to take it on the range with me and put it against the Lightning I'm testing at the moment. Right off the bat I'll say finish wise the Mercury is light years ahead of the Lightning. BSA really sold their soul hopping into bed with Gamo 😉
@vincentenglish8489 Hi Vin, that would be very interesting to put them head to head. I agree regards the difference in build quality, it's like they are built by two different brands.
