The crew, airline and authorities were completely negligent and yet could still of turn on the backup hydraulic system and save their lives? Why would they have not done that?

For what it's worth, from an old 727 flight engineer, there was manual reversion (cables) to move the ailerons for roll control if you lost all hydraulics. Additionally, standby hydraulic power was automatically activated if you lost A and B systems. It would give you limited rudder authority, for flight and not much else. Though difficult, you could control the airplane. BUT, with both A and B gone, you would NOT be able to retract the gear, causing massive drag. With the #3 engine gone, and overloaded, you are in big, big trouble. RIP.
Absolutely terrifying. That airport has a runway length of 5,906ft, and from what I gather a 727 with aprox 150000lbs payload needs about 5,800 feet of runway. A fully loaded 727, max takeoff weight is in the region of 200000lbs, and they were overloaded.. So basically It was never going to happen, as a mathematical certainty with all the other variables as well .. Surely the crew knew this but went anyway?.. Baffling and sad as well.
They were able to retract the gear when they still had some hydraulic power but they lowered it again shortly after that likely confused with errors on the side with missing wheel. When they realized it was a bad move and tried to retract it again they no longer had hydraulic power.
@@qwe5qwe566, thank you for clarification... I did hear these details in "Mentor Pilot" recently. It appears they had just enough fluid to raise the remaining gear before it was depleted. Whatever, I got through half my life already, probably the good half. If my plane piles into a mountain I don't have to worry about diet an exercise anymore.
Ayeshteni Since both the A & B systems were drained, according to this video, then selecting the standby system would have just ported hydronic fluid to the atmosphere. Just like what happened to the fluid in systems A & B. The damage done to the aircraft opened both A & B hydraulic systems. Most accidents have three factors leading up to a crash. This one has more than three including the management of the airport. I know this is in South America and they are not to keen at following the rules. But this airport’s runway is too short for a 727-200 to operate from. So the airport management should take some of the blame just as the airline should. There are too many ways to tell which way the wind is coming from. To decide to take off down wind in an overloaded airplane from a runway that is too short for your aircraft is way beyond a neglect decision.

That was a cool video - loved the addition of the filming of previous take offs showing the struggles they had due to overloading even before the accident aircraft - I like the mix of voice and text - I like only text and music too ❤️ I just like the videos 😎
Love u
Love how you do the voice-over at the beginning and then you switch to full text towards the end. You should do more with future videos.
Love the voice Audio!!!!! Change is good! Very refreshing, liked and subscribed
this is sad, not much 727's flying. we have lost yet another one....
Lmao 🤣 fuck the 727 what about the people that lost their family lol
@@kyoakland stfu B727 are legenday and rip to the families
Bruh youre everywhere where there is an aviation vid
@@Slicer400 HAAHHAH you are so right!🤣
DB Cooper loved them.
i prefer the old format, I'm good with reading english but not that good with hearing,ik some people might found the old format is slightly boring and tiring, but thumbs up for trying the new format even some ppl threaten to unsub 😀
i wont unsub 💞
Subtitles perhaps?
I personally like the ones with real ATC like the recent one where the engine fails and the captain keeps asking the F/O how are you doing? Are you good? Can I get you a hot towel or perhaps a bowl of soup? You good? It's funny, but the captain there did a good job.
Rick Feith which episode?
@@6z0 it's the last episode of season 4
It's strange for me hear "embraer" in other language accent.
what is your mother language? I've been doing Deutsch (german) on duolingo. it will be 2 years of practicing a little everyday in December. what tools did you use to learn english? my german is still not great.
I remember my dad talking with his co-workers about this crash, my dad is a pilot with Avianca (a Colombian airline) so I remember him studying how did it crash, and stuff only for him to tell me the cargo plane was overloaded and didn't take off correctly.
Your videos keep getting better and better. I like the voice over and videos! Thank you!
No worries man. I loved the voice over and love the instrumental music. Your channel is awesome simply because you don't sensationalize, you are very respectful to the survivors and victims. You just present the facts with some great flight sim videos and you do an amazing job of explaining what went wrong. Keep it up!! :)
I feel great knowing that I was here since 138k and seeing you only 60k away makes me excited to see your channel grow.
In memory of all people died in this crash 😔😢😭

You are doing great keep it up
It’s incredible that someone survived that crash.
I like all formats... the quality is amazing, dramaticaly well done.. i love all videos... sometimes i like more with subs, sometimes i like more voiceover... i'll keep watching and like all formats..
Same here.
Do both formats at the same time!
Been a fan since you started this channel and I'm an audio engineer; i think you should invest in a portable audio interface like the scarlett 2i2 and a decent condenser mic to significantly improve your audio quality. It will make a remarkable difference. Best of luck :)
The chapter got that advice too
ALMOST 1 MILLION HERE WE GO
In memory of all people onboard
Thanks for the audio explanation. It is much easy to follow than reading on the screen for more than one reason.
I like the videos with voice-over and I like the videos with text. I just like the channel. Either way you decide to do you do a phenomenal job with every video, the level of detail is astounding and emotionally impactful. Keep up the good work, this is my favorite youtube channel
Finally, I've been waiting for a new upload. ❤️
I prefer videos w/o VO but regardless of that, your vids are well thought of. 💙
Perfect timing. I woke up as soon as this was uploaded! It's cool you are trying to please all of your subscribers! Very well done my friend. 👍
Wow good to hear your voice! Im an avid fan and i always watch your vids! I was so curious who’s behind these amazing videos and listening to your voice sounds surreal 😃
I like the narration. I like the old style too. I just like the videos you make and think you're good at it. I watch Air Disasters, but sometimes they drag out to make time. You always hit that sweet spot of including enough detail without dragging it out, it keeps my eyes glued to the screen. The animation is great too. For example, I think it's cool when you zoom in on the flight controls that are of interest.
The effects and video editing are getting better every time!
nope, deafy
When you are waiting for Mayday episodes but they take long time to produce, just simply watch this channel

@tinwoods Loll ikr!
tinwoods JFC,it’s not that serious. If that triggers you that badly, then you need to seek help.
I never get sleep, so I’m lucky enough to forget these entire videos and watch them multiple times. I already watched this one and remember seeing footage of these planes nearly (or actually) hitting the fence many times, BUT...
I just realized I was able to keep doing my makeup for once because it’s narrated. I’ve said it before, but I love that I can listen! I have many long drives and a lot of makeup sessions where I need something to listen to, and I love your videos. So happy!
I am new to your channel and have binge watching for 2 days thank you, your videos are so well made I imagine it’s hard work thank you so much for doing it
wow those heavy take offs are amazing to watch.
True
You bet, that fence at the end of the extended dirt runway, for overloaded jets, should be lowered b4 take off; and for god sake cut down those trees.
but way too dangerous
Amazing to you and horrible to them at the plane
For chrissakes do the pilots know the real loading, or are they in the dark, this is sick. One of the worst crash scenarios I have seen, criminal. Sinister.
I’ve experienced this before, when the Vr comes and i rotate, it wasn’t lift off until V2. Capt was mad on company channel then.
Ah, yes. Another amazing video by TFC!
I absolutely love the voiceover! Hope you'll keep doing them in some future videos! Keep up the great work man!

DIPLOMA MILL COUNTRY WHO BEAT OWM WITH.CANE SHOULD SHUT UP
If only TH-cam would allow multiple soundtracks, so we could turn the voiceover commentary on/off. That would solve world peace.
This was just so sad to watch the drama unfold. All so needless. Trouble happens when people get lax about their important duties; systemic problems at many levels here. RIP the 5 who were killed .. wondering if the lone survivor was or is plagued by survivors’ guilt. God bless him.
Note: I like your reading aloud and concomitant visuals and text too. Changing the presentation up keeps things fresh and interesting! As always, you did an outstanding job with this.
Voiceover or text I’m just grateful for the free videos! They are always well done, thank you!!
I don’t care if you voiceover or not, I’ll still watch the videos anyway, voiceover makes it seem more real
Please use the text..I like it more than voice, the voice is sort of distracting

Great video your work is amazing better that documentary’s I just got the your merchandise too great video keep the vids coming
I'm not even an Airplane enthusiast or anything but damn im totally hooked on your channels videos. Awesome work dude. This shit is incredible. Makes me far more interested in airplanes now.
How are these videos even made so well? Good shit!
Are you a former pilot or something? Just curious
The real Audio ones are my favorites
Can you please create a documentary on recent Karachi crash in residential area? It's really heartbreaking and my heart goes out to all those who plunged to death.💔
At first I thought I was watching a video by the Smithsonian channel because of how nicely you've put together the thumbnail.
And I love the accent!
He is from europe.
You are so close to a million. Keep up the good work.
The amount of effort you put in your videos is truly amazing! And to make different video types for all different types of fans, not many other channels do that. Keep it up! Rip to everyone onbard
Your videos keep getting better and better! keep up the good work - we learn vital lessons from these tragedies.
You took it into the next level by adding real footage.. Great job👍
Idk when I came, but btw, your thumbnails getting beter everytime!
Your spelling is getting worse with time.
Honestly thought it was like a Wendover Productions video or something
Wow, too bad this accident isn’t included in the “List of sole survivors of aviation accidents.” It only contains 6 people and should be more notable.
Gr8 vide0.
Voice over was Perfect.
Its only thing, which lack all the tym.
Good work
I actually like the voice overs better bc i normally like watching ur videos while working! Also great job in ur videos!!!!! U deserve waaaay more!❤️✨✨✨
I love the narration, thank you!!!
Maybe if people don’t like it, you could do titles, too (if it’s not too much extra work. I don’t know how much goes into it, and I’m happy either way- but I do really like being able to listen while I’m laying down or driving, etc. It’s so hard to find any air disaster videos that don’t require reading.
Really appreciate it! And the speed, pronunciation and inflection are perfect. Great job.
U know wt theflightchannel....ur videos r just amazing n cool......that too this one was the best video like the other videos as always....ur voice over was also very nice....nice job man.....love u❤😘😍👏👌🎉
I prefer without voice. Please have the old format video also

Overloading the planes? That's enough to guess what happened to the plane in question. Taking off in these planes would be like lifting a whale off the ground with a glider.
I love the voiceovers it helps me understand everything and how to say everything thank you @theflightchannel
Thank you my friend!
Good video!
Sorry, just can't watch the narrated ones. Let's stay with the text, it's your unique trademark
There is text, use English Subtitle
fluffyfour Use the mute button 🤣
Disagree, this is way easier for me to pay attention to and catch all the information without pausing ever 5 seconds when the text keeps changing.
You're just not used to it maybe, just open your mind for some changes.
The text he uses is not the same as turning on subtitles, but a feature of the video. I've watched both videos in the new style but honestly don't feel it has the same atmosphere. Happy for those who like it but I can't share your happiness. And I am not closed-minded, I just feel like my favourite milk chocolate bar has changed to white chocolate!
I've just found this channel, BUT HOLY SHIT!
The soothing voice and the amazing music, add a different perspective to the story.
I want names of all the songs used.
I have been watching 3 minutes of Aviation channel and it is still an occurrence today....So sad😔
As long as the text is there, those who don't want the voice can turn off the volume. I enjoyed hearing the verbal and seeing the usual impeccable presentation of The Flight Channel.
This plane unfortunately brings back memories,,when we lost a great baseball player back in 1972,,Roberto Clemente, off San Juan,,,he was in an over loaded plane full of medicine to help the people of Njcaragua after a devasting earthquake
I thought all 727 have been retired years ago, thanks for telling me that they are still around in 2016
Flying to low can be disaster, flying not enough power also can make disaster.Pilot error also can make disaster.
Very well done, an awesome depiction of the events with out "cool" music playing before the crash. The voice does not really make any difference with me. Keep up!
I’m amazed how much the channel has grown. Keep up the good work!
Love the voice over, much more relaxing than trying to read all the long texts, at lest for me as a non English speaker
