Big fan of your work Carlos. Good to see the old timers - the real pioneers of what was then, and in my mind more properly referred to - as physique building and physical culture. People like Charles Atlas, whom even John Grimek and Dan Lurie looked up to, had a vision for physique building [aka 'bodybuilding' in our current parlance] which would have catapulted the value of health, strength and a beautiful, functional aesthetic body to greater acceptance and credibility. Instead what has happened is a degeneration of this noble endeavour into a culture of freakism, unhealthiness and a laboratory pursuit rather than a healthful and artistic one. with many leading participants, as we see of late, suffering ill health and sometimes dropping dead in their relative youth. We seem to have somehow replaced the ideal of the Grecian sculpture for that of some sort of Frankenstein. Then people wonder why bodybuilding is losing whatever credibility it may once have had !
This has such an interesting intersection with my hobby of collecting/reading Silver Age comics from the 50’s/60’s I always see the Charles Atlas ads! That copy you have has such nice white pages too- looks like he didn’t skimp on paper quality. Nice collection ❄️
