Distractions are my biggest hurdle when it comes to editing and research. I have 2 distractions that are 5 and 8 years old. They're cute but they're loud.
Getting rid of distractions is probably the hardest part!! With today's internet access, it's way too easy to waste time scrolling instead of focusing on a task at hand.
100%. When we're staring at a blank page or blank editing timeline, or have tons of hours of footage that need reviewing.... that scroll and that email are so damn hard to stay away from
I couldn't have watched a better video than this before going to bed on the first day of the New Year 2025. Among many 'not so good habits' are beginning to edit the footage that I've shot months ago, only when my Subconscious (Heart) arrives at it. The other is having a self-image of a Perfectionist. Thanks to them, I've missed the deadline of a major short film competition last month. Now, I'm stepping in 2025 with almost a ton (literally close to 100) of videos shot in 2024 waiting to be edited and published. I would have given up on them had it not been for this educational and inspiring video of yours. Thank you, Austin Sir. Here's wishing you and your subscribers a very Happy New Year 2025.
Thanks, Austin, spot on! I think the most powerful tip you shared that young people don’t listen to is to get a job. Working for someone else is the quickest way to build reps and your portfolio. Churches are great proving grounds for that. The pressure of 52 deadlines a year will get you an insane amount of practice.
100% -- Freelance life definitely has its benefits, but so does working within a company where there is more pressure and deadlines to create. Great teaming up today over on Insider, Brian! Happy New Year
Wow - thank you so much for this. I now feel really fired up for the work ahead. I'm a new subscriber today and am looking forward to more of this inspiring content. All the best from the UK:)
As always, I learn so much from your videos. This one has some great ideas. I come from a print/online news background and those deadlines were big motivators for me. I can still get things done without those regular deadlines, but I’ve definitely noticed a drop in productivity. I still need to get in the reps. I think if there’s one thing I will focus on this year is getting in the reps. I’ll start making videos even if they’re just for my own TH-cam channel or website. But I need to get in the reps, do the work and become much more consistent. Instead of waiting for assignments or work, I’ll create my own assignments and get to work.
I love this, Daniel. Thank you for sharing your perspective. So glad it resonated with you. Good luck on your journey of continuing to get more reps, and hope you have an amazing New Years holiday!
@@austinmeyerfilms Oh yeah.. I've read most of his books. So Good, Deep Work, Digital Minimalism, Slow Productivity. Distraction via cell phone addiction is a serious problem! Newport's TH-cam channel is excellent.
Hahah, on the contrary! I’m losing money each video 😂 Cal has some pretty thought provoking material out there. Check out the book or even some of the podcasts he puts out. Lemme know what you think!
All great advice. I ran a local film group and the pitfall was the politics. I finally had to walk away. Egos!%^&!*^!*&^ I started another one later and it went well but COVID did slow it down. Happy New Year!!!
Thanks for all the value you offered this year!
Thanks for sharing your appreciation! Hope to keep bringing value

Nice post I’m glad I found your channel this year. In hopes to grow my video clientele it’s good have a channel like this to refer to.
So glad that the channel has been helpful. Good luck growing your clientele! Rooting for you

Thanks Austin, some great points that are very useful and are going to be helpful for me in structuring some new habits in 2025.
Awesome! I am happy you found it helpful!

Cal’s the man. Deep work is key. Designated work focus spaces are crucial. I’m also starting up the phone being plugged into the wall while at home.
You checked out his books, too? He's got some really thought provoking work. It's a constant process adopting his advice/protocols

@@timdanyo898 It's impressive how much content he creates for digital environments while not being on them at all haha
11:54 Was totally bracing for a sponsorship plug that never happened 😅
But totally gonna look into that book "Deep Work" by Cal Newport

Happy New Year! I hear you on that one. Hopefully we all find some nice, ego-less filmmaker friends in 2025 haha
