Hi. This ragam ranjani is the queen of all ragas. Whether played on an instrument or sung by a beginner with motivation or a great singer. Its nuances get into nerves through veins for all listeners. Great singing. 2.Long back, don't remember, many years ago, Dr. N. C. Sathyanarayana sang this ranjani ragam in Ttk auditorium. Rendered amazingly to be shared among listeners of Carnatic taste of music 🎶.

I listened to this video again today and fell totally in its spell. For shruti shuddha, clarity of voice, and smoothness of singing: whether alapana, nereval or the kriti, is there anyone who can top them? I doubt it very much. I was especially impressed with the accompanists; both the violinist and the mridangist have contributed immensely to its overall effect. The mridangist, thank god, has played softly without drowning the vocalists' voices. There are several mridangists who, unfortunately, thump on the mridangam loudly, or beat the hell out of the mridanga, generating only noise, and call it mridanga playing! (I have attended dozens of concerts that were totally ruined by the mridangists.) So, the mridangist deserves very special appreciation. Smt. Ranjani and Smt Gayatri, of course, are great singers.

You are right Mr.Prabhu, these sisters are always commited and dedicated. The way they compliment each other, in exchanging swaram. They also give variety, like ragas and the compositions as well. Sriranji was good and ranjani was exqusite. I am very much impressed with their effort in their self confidence to the expectations of Rasikas. God bless them.

Great stuff; Ranjani Gayatri are getting ahead by leaps and bounds. Very seasoned like Bombay sisters of early years. Pleasant voices. Not too shrill to strain your ears. Wish them long years of singing to give pleasure to listeners like us.
They had hindustani training. That´s why they have a crystal clear voice.
+tony thomas - Because of their knowledge the srutis are sitting on their place by their command. In recent days many female do not bother about the sruti and laya, as the mridangist would be going in a differ track, his sruti merges aptly and the violinist is good as these sisters mastered violin as well.

The carnatic music by Smt Ranjini and Smt Gayatri is always super O super. Many times I had gift of hearing their fantastic music. it is so beautiful. Alabana is so good. no words to explain. it is devine music. when I used to here, I shall be delighted with overwhelming appreciation I pray Kaliyuga Deivam Pondy Annaii to shower her benign blessings on both of them, sound health, Blissful blessed wealth coupled with happiness always n to bless them for another 100 years from now on. with wishes, love n affection.

Excellent.....ragaalapana n rendition of the kriti of Ambujam Krishna -" kAdiruvenu nAnu shrI rAma" in ranjini ragam, the 59th Melakarta Dharmavati. It is an asymmetric pentatonic scale, which is pleasing and has been popular in carnatic music. It is devoid of P and N in Aarohanam and P and R in Avarohanam....notably with Kakli Nishadham/N3 in Avarohanam. Presented lovely niraval @ paadaambujagala poojeya maadi /Charanam followed by an extempore swarakalpana.........Very good recital best wishes..

These singers have sung the song very well. But, there is no need to denounce kannada singers.
We hope that this commentator has her doubt clarified during these four years.Rasikas will be “Highly thankful” if she can publish are her findings , which will be “Very useful “ to the “ whole world in general” ;” “Linguists, in particular“.
It is also suggested that her canvas of doubts is expanded to include international languages ,international music and above all the “efforts, vis-a -vis linguistic origins of human beings”

No Madam. We use to hear great music in AIR in the 1970s especially after 9:30 PM for one full hour and so many great musicians like Madurai Mani Iyyer, Chambai Vaiyanatha Bhagathar, Dr Balamuralikrisha, Smt. MS Subbalakshmi, Smt ML Vasantha Kumari and many more became a household name during that time.

I very much like the Raagam Ranjani which sounds very emotive and convey the lyricist's feelings beautifully. Excellent. Expressive rendition by both the Vocalists as well as the Violinist. Superb play by Mridangist too. Neraval @ PaadhaambujagaLa poojayamaadi and the subsequent Swaraas sound Superb.

LYRICS MEANING ANYONE? RAGAM OF COMPOSITION ?
Yes. Hindustani music emphasizes strict Shruti. Not so much in carnatic music. Hindustani music training helps keep the purity of the notes.
I have heard some people say, as you have said here, that unlike in Hindustani music, not much importance is given to shruti in Carnatic music. That is not true. Carnatic musicians consider “shuti maataa, laya pitaa” : Shruti is the mother, rhythm is the father. In other words, when a vocalist sings, his voice must cling to the shruti, never letting go, just like a baby monkey clings to its mother, always. In fact, more importance is given to shuti than to laya. Singing with bhakti and bhaavam, with clarity of pronunciation of words, and maintaining taalam (kalapramanam), are also important. But shruti comes first in the order of importance.

Yesh Prabhu In theory yes; but in practice it is theatrics on the stage during swaraprastharam that our musicians emphasize and leave out shruthi a little bit. Hear some GNB tapes and one sees the brigas are done at the expense of shruthi; Also Seshagopalan of recent times. Not that they are not great but shruthi is a slight weakness. Hear Bhimsen or Amonkar one will find the difference. But Hindustani does not seem to be so evolved as Carnatic though I am not so knowledgeable to say that.

The language of the Kruthi is ಕನ್ನಡ (KANNADA) and NOT otherwise as ERRONEOUSLY mentioned by a viewer.
Just a minor comment to the license - while the original title and the song itself is very well written, Amutham music has made a basic error in the title of the song. It is Kaadiruvenu, which means "I am waiting for" but what is written in the license is Kattiruvenu which means I have binded - something usually done to a criminal. It should never be done to Rama. The very meaning of the song is completely reversed. It is always a good idea to double check with someone who understands the language, rather than make assumptions.

This appears to be the common dilemma of "ka, cha, ta, tha, pa" vs
" ga, ja, da, tha, ba" between some of the south Indian languages - eg. Chandrashekhar, my name in Kannada, would be "Jandrajegaran" in Tamil. Similarly between Telugu and Tamil. Often, the best of singers do not pay attention to the accuracy of pronunciation, since talent and skills outshine the lyrics in a concert.

No they are very very different. Ranjani is the raga in which this song has been rendered. Sivaranjani is pretty different: it is usually used to express pity, sympathy, mercy and the like. The first raga in "Kurai ondrum illai" is in raga Sivaranjani, for reference.
i think you have not read what i wrote. i know ranjani and shivaranjani are different ragas.i am talking about"SRI RANJANI". reference song for sri ranjani is "gajavadana karuna sadana" which sounds like the above song which is in raga "ranjani" my question is whether ranjani and sri rangani are the same ?

Sorry about that. Yes, they're still very different. Ranjani has a pratimadhyama while Sriranjani has shuddhamadhyama. Sriranjani is a janya raga of Kharaharapriya while Ranjani is derived from Dharmavati. Even the nishadam used is different. Also, the structure of Aarohana and Avarohana are different.
