One of the most admirable aspects of being self-aware, I think, is also knowing your limits- what you can and can't handle. Here I am posting a serious comment on TH-cam... am I unwell?
I'm super self-aware, bitches!!!!!!! (I was going to just leave that comment which by it's very crassness makes me seem not self-aware, but now I'm over explaining the joke because I'm not confident enough in myself to just put that comment out there and assume I'm properly conveying what I wanted to convey.)
The three characteristics I value most in humans are intelligence, humor, and kindness. Of the three, I value kindness more than the first two combined. Intelligence without kindness can be cold. Humor without kindness can be cruel. Kindness without the other two is still kindness, and that's just fine with me.
i've been self aware from such a young age and it actually made me pretty depressed - still does occasionally. because it makes you question that what you're doing is worth it. sometimes i'd love to switch off, just enjoy the moment and perhaps not worry so much about myself and my direction... see now I'm self aware about being self aware.
Same here, I am 14 and I am extremely self aware. It can be depressing, especially this young realizing how much more school I have until my life really starts, and I am eager, and 4 years seems like an eternity. I wold love to be able to switch it off.
I always think self-awareness is also about awareness of how others perceive you and how your actions can affect them. Like someone who talks and talks without realising they're boring everyone around them is probably lacking in self-awareness.
JackHoward Are you saying you don't understand when other people don't realise they're being boring? I don't realise about 50% of the time, but it's a symptom of Asperger's Syndrome. Maybe those are the people you mean? I don't know...
JackHoward This type of self-awareness also helps with creativity, An awareness of how others might perceive your work is very important, I think. Like a personal filter. Or as a tool to help surprise and mislead your audience. Self-awareness is a key stage of human development - "I think therefore I am" and all that - but some people don't like to think, particularly in analysis of themselves, so they never become self-aware. THE POOR FOOLS
I'm self aware but maybe in kind of a dramatic way like I'll be sitting around and I'll suddenly realise wow this is a moment in my one life that I get I'm gunna look back at my youth and see myself sitting at my computer eating a salad after a 12 hour marathon of teen wolf.
One of my favourite qualities about people is Open-Mindedness. I love having discussions with people who will take in other people's point of view. Even if they don't like or agree with it they'll still be like, "hey that's fine, you're your own person and I'm perfectly okay if that's your opinion." Plus people like that are great when they're drunk cause they ramble about random and wonderful things and it's great.
I often have the thought 'i could die right now, and I'd die perfectly happy'. It's always in those really small and insignificant moments. On the bus home after a long day for example, staring out the window and watching the sun set. There's nothing in particular going on but I'm at ease and content with where I'm at. It's like I'm melancholic about the present. It's like the opposite of making a significant memory? Or the spaces in between those? I might not remember that exact moment when I'm 80 years old, but I know it now, that I'm really happy. And that's good enough for me..
I think this self-awareness is definitely an important quality to have: it allows people to grow and improve themselves, while simultaneously allowing people to enjoy the memories that we're constantly making. I think for me my favourite quality is not-dwelling. I like people who move forward, who are constantly trying new things, new adventures, and are trying to improve themselves all the time. I don't like getting wrapped up in the past!
i think i'm pretty self-aware, but it can also suck when you over think too much like "WHERE AM I WHERE IS THIS GOING WHY AM I DOING THIS" especially as a youtuber! so yeah..
My favourite quality in people is how whilst some don't, many people give out random acts of kindness. When you're feeling down or life is just a little crappy, sometimes a caring message or a kind favour or a warming hug can go a long way and really brighten your day. That's what I love in people, whilst some of us out there may be arseholes who none of us have time for - those with a heart will try to make other people's days happier and I really do love that.
I'm self aware that I'm not self aware enough, I often look back a week later after a day out or something and only realize then how much fun I had. I like to think its because I'm just so in the moment that time flies by but hey (what a wonderful kind of day, Arthur love it) life is fun ^-^
My favourite quality in someone is being motivated. Kind of links in with being self-aware I suppose? Understanding where you are in life, where you want to be and what you need to do to get there.
i love it when people find the humour and joy in small things. like i dont get it when people go to buy a cupcake and then just eat it.... ITS A FUCKING CUP CAKE, where is your little Jig of joy and this beautiful piece of art that is about to go in your tummy?
This video has given me so more respect for Jack (not only because of the "smart" glasses) I've always thought being incredibly self aware was such a redeeming quality and it's nice to see that other people understand that and think so too!
Being down to earth and being honest with others and yourself also humor is needed i love stupid jokes like 'thats what she said' dunno its just a thing
My favourite quality in a person (or people) is trying. For example when there is a group of people and nobody is talking there always the person to try and make convocation and get everyone involved. Or they try to cheer people up or even when they are going through a shit time they still try and push on with life. There is no fault in trying and I guess that's why I like that in a person
I find I'm really crap at compiling those mental picture books (which is why stuff like Pretentious Monthly Scrapbook is a thing). Talking of memorable moments, that Project: Library video still going to be a thing?
I think my favourite quality in others is passion. There's nothing more exciting than watching a person talk about or do something they're passionate about
I have two favourite qualities, one just being a nice person because being nice can always makes someone else's life better where being a dick can't aha! and secondly people who have a positive outlook on life, theres no point dwelling in the crappy stuff!!
i am very self aware. so much so that i like to play around with time. i will sit there and almost watch each second of the world tick by like a clock. in some moments of my life i take a mental note of not only my surroundings but exactly how i feel. i think its nice because its hard to regret something when you know how happy you were. i also always make a special note when i am feeling good after a shitty period of time so that i remember that things will always get better you just have to ride out time.
I do love your humour, you are one of few people I watch on youtube that actually make me laugh out loud :) Also I'd like to thank Louise for bringing me to your channel because I love your videos !!
For me the little ongoing side notes, and bursts of thought are really what makes these videos that much more interesting and entertaining. (My favourite quality has to be perceptiveness, just being very observant).
Fun timing: I was just asked in a job interview what I liked best about myself. I was JUST thinking about this. I make efforts to engage the world in 3 different tones (layers?). 1st: A generous, kind person. 2nd: Intelligent, nobody's fool. 3rd: A mischief maker, because humor is fun. BTW: I got the job.
okay, so good to know that I'm not the only one who makes mental memory pictures and store them somewhere in my head! I talked a while ago about this with some of my friends and no one for real does this. great and beautiful memories are something that I value very much in my life. they make me grow and appreciate life more. I also made myself like a "memory box" where I keep random stuff in there, like tickets from different shows, like memorable things that happen that day I just always take them with me, and store them, so whenever I feel down I open the box and just rewind everything and I sit there cry like a baby and laugh. people always look at me weirdly when I take random things home, like sugar pockets or paper napkins from coffee shops.
I love how Jack and Louise have become super close friends, it means more interaction between more of my favourite people! great video as always, so glad you're uploading more again!
Favourite quality in myself: My quirky sense of humour. Favourite quality in others: Them understanding my quirky sense of humour and not just thinking I'm a prick. :)
I never really thought about it, but being self-aware is an amazing quality in people. It's just easier to bear someone who completely understands themselves and it kind of reflects on their perception of others. But I think being self-aware also comes with other qualities that are really interesting to be around.
What I like most in people is when they like to laugh. I like when they make me laugh, but also when they're just laughing for them. Not for attention or anything, just because they feel good and they're happy. Because they saw someone tripping or making a weird face, or because they remember of a funny memory or they have a internal joke with themselves. Laughter and happiness are contagious and I catch them really easily! :D
My favourite quality is when people try and understand other people. I think it's important to not only be selfcentered and forget that people actually go through a lot too. And I find you waaaaaaay too cute and adorable
I love that quality, it's honestly one of the best. The second thing, I enjoy about myself, is that I see something and make a metaphor out of it or just think of something anybody else wouldn't. Example: other day I was at a grad party and it was daylight, but cold, had a bonfire going, I look over at some houses and trees. I saw seeing yellow specks in the air, probably some of those seeds that slowly fall to the ground in the sunlight. When I looked at it, I was thinking, "it looks like they're lightning bugs during the day." I love this quality and in seeing weird stuff like that, because it appears nobody else sees stuff that way where I live. Mind you it's a bit depressing, but it's also nice to have that.
I get the 'this is a moment' feeling at gigs and events where I'm around lots of people all having the same moment that we're all going to remember, it's a good feeling.
My favourite quality in people is passion. I love that glow that people have in their eyes when talking about something they're passionate about. It doesn't even matter if I like the person.
Fav quality in a person is the ability to know what the moment calls for. The best kinds of people for me are those who you can go to not just for a laugh, but also for the hard days when you need someone on your side to take you seriously and just listen without taking focus off of the situation at hand.
Love the video. Love you. No I don't. I've never even met you. Shut up now Vicky this is weird. Just re-type the comment. Don't post this. You're literally talking to yourself in a comment. That's a really bad decision. Stop now. Don't post. You're gonna post aren't you?
I enjoyed this moving picture on the internet. Self awareness is a big one for me too. I think it's an important quality to have so that you're always aware of how your actions/words are affecting the people around you too.
that "taking a picture of a moment" thing is something i think ive been doing my whole life, which is probably why i remember a lot more of my early childhood than most people
One my my favourite and most valued qualities is the ability to be aware of one's own happiness, to know that you are happy and that one can change their state of mind/mindset and make themselves happy. Happiness is a choice, everyone can be happy.
It's insane how a blazer can turn someone 1000 times more attractive than they already are. Moving on, the answer to your question: yes, I am self aware. It usually happens in "big moments" like when I travel to somewhere really nice and I'm just sitting with my friends/family and I realise how much I appreciate this moments and I think: Am I going to remember this when I'm 60? Am I going to even be alive when I'm 60? Holy shit, I'm alive, I'm a person, I am thinking and the person next to me is thinking too. This is my life right now, I won't be able to come back to this moment ever so I might just enjoy it and make the best of it.
My favourite quality for someone to have is having the enthusiasm and passion for something they love, it's certainly delightful to follow that journey with someone. Happiness ain't too bad either, eh? IT'S LIKE A ROOM WITHOUT A ROOF.
One of those "moments" that I remember very well is snorkelling with two of my friends under a jetty with hundreds of fish swimming around us. It only lasted a few minutes but I'll never forget it.
wow jack you spoke out of my soul in the making memories part, i sometimes just take a second and think "you´re gonna remember this moment forEVER, and the best is, it isn´t your last just great memory" i don´t think that i´m much self-aware because people are always talking about me and i just stopped caring, i am how i am and i´m not gonna change myself because someone else thinks i´m weird. and my favourite qualities in people are if they´re entertaining (like you are
My favorite quality in other people is complete comfort in one's own skin. I like someone who is completely ok with who they are! Its nice to see that authenticity.
It always surprises me when someone I watch on TH-cam (especially the ones who are well known and liked) says they're lonely...it's like I can't fathom how that could be. But I appreciate these moments because it forces me to stop a beat, and reconsider the way I think about and view people. Considering how crazy busy you must get, what with writing, filming, and editing these lovely videos and films for us, I can see how you could in fact be lonely (not that I need to understand..just that I can) In which case thanks Jack. You give us a lot and I just wanted to say thanks and sorry for potentially tacking you or at least what you do on camera, and who you are off camera for granted.
I do that all the time! I'm constantly thinking like "This is one of those things i'll never forget".. Happened today when I was picking up my first car, i'll always remember that moment, and what song was playing! Brilliant video, your friendship with Louise is by far the best!;D xx
One of my favourite things about people is the ability to make inside jokes, like certain words of phrases that can send people into hysterics for no apparent reason. It's especially good when it's something that normally wouldn't be at all funny but for some reason sends you into fits of laughter
Yes! Yes! 100% I am constantly making memories and it annoys me the most when people aren't aware of themselves, and can't reflect on their own motives
I just love general kindness in people. Someone who will smile at you for no reason, someone who will help out in the middle of the street, someone who will give you an extra 20p for the bus fare when you're blatantly crying in front of them because you've had such a crappy day and you've never seen them before (yeah, this last one has happened to me lol) So yeah, kindness is a major major quality that really makes me happy =]
One of my favourite qualities in other people is attention to detail, I like when people are aware enough of their surroundings to notice things that not everyone notices. Which also happens to be one of my favourite things about myself, I notice and remember weirdly specific things.
My favorite quality in people is just awareness itself. Being aware of the problems (and the good things) in your community, the world, and in yourself and how you can improve :)
I am so glad to hear there are other people out there that find that a great quality in a person! I've always been like that, and sometimes find it hard to relate to people who don't have quality.
I think my favourite quality in people is cooperation, just to be able to work with someone else,or a group of people, and just if you need to get something done whatever it is,play to your strengths and try to not to expose your weaknesses
This is actually something I've thought about for a long time. I really appreciate it in people too, and i love just sitting down with someone and saying "So I see this pattern in my life, where major things happen when I'm near the ocean" or something like that. People who have the perspective to know that when you lose a watch someplace that means something, you know?
And to answer one of our questions, my favourite quality in people is definitely a sense of humour. I literally can't make friends with somebody who can't laugh or joke around for most of the time I'm with them.
I think one of my favourite things about me and also other people. Is the ability to be honest. Like to be able to approach my friends and be like "This is my problem, let discuss how to solve it...good, now we can move on with our lives." and it not turning into a big drama, or hurt feeling etc. I feel like the more you hide your problems away and hope they just disappear, without resolving the issue, the more it's just going to turn into a bigger mess.
I feel like I'm sort of self aware because every now and then I'll have this intense moment of being really content and happy with where I am and realize this is a special moment in my life, but I never realize exactly how special that moment truly is until, like, a lot of time has passed.
I really wish I was more self-aware, it's a great quality that people have. There's not a lot I actually like about myself, but if I had to pick something to be my favourite, I'd say I like that I'm extremely empathetic. I'm not sympathetic at all, I hate sympathy because to me it just feels fake and I feel awkward when someones sympathetic towards me, but empathy is that true understanding of another people's feelings that is just on a whole new level to sympathy. So I like that I'm really empathetic.Great story Sophie... great story.... *walks away*
I sometimes have these weird moments where I suddenly realize that I'm doing something that I spent so much of my childhood imagining and dreaming about. Those things are often associated with freedom, oddly enough. Things like getting my license, turning 18, graduating high school, moving out for college. And then I sometimes start freaking out that this is as good as it's going to get and that I have to do all my living now before I get "old" and then I remember that I'll only stop fully living life if I choose to and then everything is nice again. These little crises occur at least weekly.
I think about that a lot, not only "this is a memory I will remember forever" but also "I know I'm not going to remember this exact moment, nothing lifechanging is happening and I will probably just forget it. And that makes me sad"
I wasn't always self-aware. I guess I was afraid that if I focused too much on what was happening around me, it would hurt worse when those things I admired were no longer in my reach. It wasn't until I lost someone very close to my heart that I snapped out of that idea. I realized that the longer I separated myself from reality the farther I would be from being happy. Before, I felt like I was stuck in a train, everything around me was moving but always being too afraid to look out---life was just a blur in my head. Now every time I get the opportunity to do something out of the ordinary, I enjoy it as much as possible. Always finding a new memory to bring to my book and cherish.
During my early childhood before starting at school, I already did enough reflecting upon my life to intentionally keep old memories intact so that I'd have them later in life.
My favorite quality about myself is my ability to calm and comfort people in stressful situations. This is useful since I am an Emergency worker. But seriously I've been told by many of my coworkers that it helps. It helps the patient calm down, which is great if they are bleeding out, and it helps the nurses when we get overwhelmed.
thats why i love video because you can see those memories exactly how they were but not all the time sometimes its better just for youself in the brain. i love the positive quality, and im not sure if this is a personality trait but maybe a human thing where you just dont feel ready for something but you have to do it anyway and i love that, jumping into something when your not totally prepared before you're stressed about it but when the thing is actually happening you realise the stress or preperation wasnt needed because here you are doing it!
My favorite quality in people is confidence. I hate when people act like they don't matter because it's hard to tell if they mean it or if they just want attention and sympathy. Also confidence is infectious.
I think what I like most is the ability to look at the world around you, and make connections. To be able to wonder, and ask questions, and then answer those questions yourself. It's not just intelligence, although I suppose that's part of it; rather it's an external-awareness. It's a telephoto zoom and a panoramic view. It's seeing just how intricate and simple and funny and daunting and beautiful the world really is.
I completely agree with this topic! I also live my life knowing when I'm inside 'one of those moments'. And it's one of the most special things to appreciate, being self aware is a really good quality.
Haha your housemate is so spontaneous and more attractive than you.
and yet he cant use the door.

Jack, how do you know you are self aware or you have the illusion of self awareness?
One of the most admirable aspects of being self-aware, I think, is also knowing your limits- what you can and can't handle.

Subscrobe ? Okay

Woah. I feel like you've changed my life just now. I'm going to make a quote of this and use it someday.
Katelyn Olszewski Golly, I was just trying to not sound stupid. Thank you, Katelyn.
My favorite quality in people is how nicely they're backlit. My favorite quality in myself is my ability to interpret complex emotions in silhouettes.

I agree: I've always found self-awareness to be a generally negative trait.
Same here, I am 14 and I am extremely self aware. It can be depressing, especially this young realizing how much more school I have until my life really starts, and I am eager, and 4 years seems like an eternity. I wold love to be able to switch it off.

Malia AuParis You're aware you are boring, am I right?
That means you're self aware then.
Correct! And I don't understand how those people are so blissfully unaware of that stuff!
JackHoward Are you saying you don't understand when other people don't realise they're being boring?
I don't realise about 50% of the time, but it's a symptom of Asperger's Syndrome. Maybe those are the people you mean? I don't know...

Is there such a thing as "too self aware"? Because I'm that. That is me.
according to google, 'people can become overly self-aware and veer into what is known as self-consciousness.'
that's how I approach friendships - if they find me funny, they have a good sense of humour
I never really thought about it, but being self-aware is an amazing quality in people. It's just easier to bear someone who completely understands themselves and it kind of reflects on their perception of others. But I think being self-aware also comes with other qualities that are really interesting to be around.
You are a little bit in love with Louise aren't you. Don't worry, it happens to the best of us.
So much charisma it's adorable. There, I said it
I actually genuinely have found something so funny that I didn't laugh. I didn't forget, but I just couldn't laugh.
i couldn't choose because there were so many questions, so I made up my own. the answer is yes, Jack, we can meet. message me
My favourite quality is when people try and understand other people. I think it's important to not only be selfcentered and forget that people actually go through a lot too.
And I find you waaaaaaay too cute and adorable
I hope you will do this thing where you talk to the camera and edit it later more often, because it's good. Yeah.
Mind you it's a bit depressing, but it's also nice to have that.
i have things to say about this i think
that'll be fun :)
I get the 'this is a moment' feeling at gigs and events where I'm around lots of people all having the same moment that we're all going to remember, it's a good feeling.
if you like self aware people, you should meet danisnotonfire's hamster... :3
Yeah lol
Thank you so much for this, I can't stop laughing
Oh my god 😂😂
My favourite quality in people is passion.
I love that glow that people have in their eyes when talking about something they're passionate about. It doesn't even matter if I like the person.
Thanks jack, you made me realise how I'm wasting my life. JK
Haha I was thinking just that
Fav quality in a person is the ability to know what the moment calls for.
Well you did post it. Now why did you do that?
I literally had one of those "I'm making a memory" moments when I watched you and Dean live at Summer In The City! It was awesome :) x
what camera does jack use omfg
I enjoyed this moving picture on the internet. Self awareness is a big one for me too. I think it's an important quality to have so that you're always aware of how your actions/words are affecting the people around you too.
I think that jack has a crush on louise ...
TheViviBallerina You're brilliant.
Yes she's a female
Yes he's a male
But they can still be friends
Nothing more
Nothing else
Zoe Stanek I know that but he always speaks about her !
***** is that meant to be for me.? And if it is thanks...
TheViviBallerina Thank you.
that "taking a picture of a moment" thing is something i think ive been doing my whole life, which is probably why i remember a lot more of my early childhood than most people
if this guy hasnt got a girlfriend... WHY
IT'S LIKE A ROOM WITHOUT A ROOF.
passion is such an excellent quality - good choice
Considering how crazy busy you must get, what with writing, filming, and editing these lovely videos and films for us, I can see how you could in fact be lonely (not that I need to understand..just that I can)
In which case thanks Jack.
Someone who will smile at you for no reason, someone who will help out in the middle of the street, someone who will give you an extra 20p for the bus fare when you're blatantly crying in front of them because you've had such a crappy day and you've never seen them before (yeah, this last one has happened to me lol)
So yeah, kindness is a major major quality that really makes me happy =]
One of my favourite qualities in other people is attention to detail, I like when people are aware enough of their surroundings to notice things that not everyone notices. Which also happens to be one of my favourite things about myself, I notice and remember weirdly specific things.
My favorite quality in people is just awareness itself. Being aware of the problems (and the good things) in your community, the world, and in yourself and how you can improve :)
I love jack's little rants so much omg
I am so glad to hear there are other people out there that find that a great quality in a person! I've always been like that, and sometimes find it hard to relate to people who don't have quality.
My favourite quality in people is the kind of person who always asks others (friends or not) when ever they see them how they are doing
I'm forever thinking stuff like this - "In a few years, I'm going to look back on this and remember for the rest of my life". It blows my mind!
I first saw Jack on Louise's channel and thought he was older than he is. I now feel like a cougar watching his videos and Instagram!
I think spending time with Louise has brought out your weirdness, I love it!
And may I add, daymn you look good in a blazer!
I love people who can live in the moment and appreciate the value of time and loved ones. Self awareness, yes that is very nice indeed!
Consideration. It's so underrated yet so admirable.
I love kind people and people that notice the good in others.
thats why i love video because you can see those memories exactly how they were but not all the time sometimes its better just for youself in the brain. i love the positive quality, and im not sure if this is a personality trait but maybe a human thing where you just dont feel ready for something but you have to do it anyway and i love that, jumping into something when your not totally prepared before you're stressed about it but when the thing is actually happening you realise the stress or preperation wasnt needed because here you are doing it!
