    Zoella and Marcus and Alfie and that crew NEED to make a video about this. They've got the biggest audience and would have a huge impact but they're just ignoring what's going on it's really bugging me.

      That's exactly what I was thinking, I think they avoid the topic because they don't want to be controversial and lose any subs or anything, it's a shame though

    • @supersophs2223
      @supersophs2223 10 ปีที่แล้ว +88

      They usually stay quiet, perhaps to stay neutral (which considering their largely young female audience and the gravity of the allegations I personally think is wrong) or to avoid becoming a part of the controversy. I agree they should take a stand as collectively they have such a large audience they could really bring awareness to these issues. But it's a difficult topic to approach, and in regards to the youtubers in question they run in completely different circles (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm surprised Louis hasn't mentioned it considering his past relationship with Sam pepper.

    • @StephanieKateGray
      @StephanieKateGray 10 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      Just because they haven't made a video about it doesn't mean they don't acknowledge what is going on, maybe they just don't know how to formulate their thoughts into a video. They are also not obliged to make a video just because they have a lot more subscribers, it would be great but they should't be look down upon for not doing so. Also, Zoe and Louise have made a video about Boundaries and Saying "NO" and sexual abuse, whilst it was made before all this occurred, they did bring it back up in light of what has happened.

    I'm glad you found the right words for this video, man. I know it wasn't easy, it took me a while to make mine too, but it's a very important topic and it needs to keep being discussed. It's weird to see the comedic people I watch making such a serious video, but I'm so glad that youtubers with bigger audiences are making direct videos on this subject.
      There have been a lot of vague videos on content and it's an important message but speaking directly about the situations at this moment are more likely to comfort other victims and allow them to feel more comfortable about speaking up.
      Thanks for your video Gary, it was absolutely brilliantly done, and for just generally being a big part of the discussion. I love seeing your comments on all of the videos surrounding this at the moment. You're really making an impact. :)

    I still feel like this needs to be talked about. It's been over a year now and it's just kinda been thrown under the rug. I don't know if anything major like this has happened in the last year, but it's still okay to talk about it. It doesn't need to go unnoticed. Even though it's been a year I still love this video.

      +Julie Bacon I agree! And like you said I think most of this did get "thrown under the rug..." Because as far as I know (please correct me if you know otherwise) the people who were accused didn't get any jail time or any legal punishment. Which is not ok.

    FINALLY a sexual abuse video by someone with a prominent subscriber count that isn't vague and "careful". You actually named names and were properly upfront about the issue. There are very few popular youtubers who are being straightforward about who is involved and what's going on. I for one am sick of so many youtubers thinking that addressing these issues in a tweet or two is what's going to make an impact. Their audience is here. On TH-cam. Thanks for stepping up Jack. A bit of direct aggression once in a while is a good idea, too. I don't mean throwing punches and screaming at people, but let your offenders know you can't stand them or you don't like what they're doing. Otherwise, it's just gonna keep creeping in when it shouldn't have to be there at all, really.

    It's so depressing to me that people are having to make videos confirming that they don't support sexual abuse. I mean bigger TH-camrs like you should definitely be making them, cause you probably do have a little crossover with the audience of some of the abusers and youngsters seeing more of their favourite TH-camrs denouncing that behaviour is a good influence on their thoughts. So I'm not having a go at anyone that's made a video about this topic, just annoyed I guess at the fact that someone is exposed as a rapist and for some reason there needs to be dialogue about whether or not it's wrong.

    • @taylortran4244
      @taylortran4244 10 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      You're right. There shouldn't need to be dialogue. Everyone should just already know that rape and sexual abuse is wrong. But sadly this is not the case so it must be addressed. Because if we sit back and do nothing the problem will only continue to grow

    I respect you so much for this. As a sexual abuse SURVIVOR, there is such a huge problem in general with 'slut shaming' and blaming the victim and not blaming the person.
    It is utterly wrong on so many levels.

  • @MrTrevor181
    @MrTrevor181 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Sexual assault is a crime, it needs to be reported. Those victims also need to be supported and to seek counselling as they should not feel they're alone...and most important it's not their fault. It is a sad case of affairs when such medium like this is abused.

I've only seen a few - people are generally talking about it on their blogs and other social media, etc - but most of your viewership is here on TH-cam. So true! I couldn't agree more. I'm sick of some of the people at my school saying things like "it's not even that bad, all he did was pinch their arse" it's ridiculous how people can just overlook things like this because it may not be as bad as other things. But if we carry on like this, things will get worse and people will have learnt by then to just ignore it. We need to start raising awareness and JackHoward and others are brilliantly using TH-cam to do this

    I'm a little late but thank you so much for making this video, Jack. Sexual abuse and consent is something that needs to be addressed more in this society who think that it is a disgusting subject and should only be talked about quietly. It isn't. It happens all the time and victims of sexual abuse should be in a world where they are encouraged to speak up, because it is not an okay thing to happen.

    i love this video, because youre talking about such an important issue, and you are saying what needs to be said. i find that sometimes on youtube, people say things but they say these things in a very sheltered way - in a video on a matter like this, but you are saying the truth. there was no, oh no, i might offend someone here, it was just straight out truth. if there were more people with large fanbases or followings who spoke about important matters, the world would be a much better place.

    I'm constantly impressed by the succinct way Jack addresses these issues. He may not have the biggest following to deliver to, or -as he said- the most eloquent way of wording it, but he is consistently a loud, clear voice stating what is right and what is wrong with these situations. I admire those TH-camrs who can wax poetic and vlog passionate rants, but Jack's simple way of explaining the facts is sometimes what's needed. This blunt delivery gets the same important messages across and is worthy of just as much respect. Anyone who uses their position of celebrity (however seemingly small) to speak out in an informed way for what is right should be applauded, it's not always the easiest thing. These are the people that are leading the way towards the changes this community needs. Thank you Jack.

    A lot of people are saying that Zoe or Alfie or Tyler or really any of them should make a video on sexual abuse, because they have large audiences. I agree that a video from them could potentially be really great and raise a lot of awareness about the issue. However, if they were to make one comment that could be taken as inappropriate, offensive, or just uneducated, their entire fan bases would flip out. Sexual abuse is just too touchy of a subject, for good reason. And I don't think they're educated enough to make a proper video about it, they'd end up saying something wrong, which would mislead their viewers.

    THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I am so happy that sexual abuse/assault is becoming a normal topic of conversation. I was fortunate to grow up in a household where to topic of abuse was not taboo. But I noticed, as I got older, that it wasn't the case for other families. But now, being 25, I am so happy that it is becoming the norm to talk about 'uncomfortable' situations like these. Remove the taboo and more people will be able to talk about it. Thank you Jack for getting this conversation going.

  • @RachaelGrayOfficial
    @RachaelGrayOfficial 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I just want to say, firstly, the fact that you admitted you were wrong about the 'supportive' tweet you initially sent is really respectable. As human beings we make judgement errors and learn from them the more we are exposed to information and you clearly learned why you're initial reaction to Jason's apology wasn't the best. Also, you're not late to talk about this topic. When we look at the broader picture it has literally been less than a week since accusations against Jason were made. This isn't a topic that deserves to be forgotten in such a short time. Sexual abuse and manipulation is an ongoing problem in society and apparently youtube as you and other youtubers have said (ie. apparent rumours of other unknown abusers) and therefore it should be an ongoing discussion amongst the community. We can't just forget about the importance of awareness surrounding this topic in a week. The victims of abuse don't just forget about what happened to them in a week and neither should we. This platform has turned into a circus of celebrity and the success if individual creators isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just a worrying thing. These creators are only human and they are more than capable of doing very bad things and making aweful life choices. When their audience, which is an increasing number of young teenage girls, view these people as celebrities they suddenly put these people on a pedestal and refuse to have their idol dethroned. These individuals are ignoring and in effect supporting the abusive way that certain creators use their popularity and power. This isn't okay. Changes need to be made and the discussion of safety within this wonderful community needs to continue.

      ***** That's true, but I think it's better that we assume victims are telling the truth until otherwise proven. And often hard evidence isn't possible because it's only the victim and the abuser that know about it.
      Besides, anyone who is accused has more than enough opportunity to come forward and address these claims, and it's more important that we create a safe environment for victims to come forward, anonymously or otherwise, than always questioning the legitimacy of their accusations. Our culture already does that constantly.

      The problem with this is (and don't think I am condoning and/or defending abusers here - they are the scum of the earth and need to be punished) that unverified 'whistleblowing' by third parties doesn't help the situation. It ends up being gossip/rumor and will bring out trolls on both sides which could scare victims even further away from wanting to come forward.
      Our only concern here should be for other victims and that they have someone that they can trust to talk to - that doesn't include the vast empty shitstorm that is the internet.
      Also, on a side note, there are legal implications for people who whistleblow - especially if they are not in possession of all the facts. If, for instance, Jack were to post a video naming all the people about whom there are rumours and they end up being false rumours - he could be sued for libel.
      I guess what I am trying to say is that it is up to the victims to decide whether or not they want to come forward (and who they want to come forward to) - not be pushed out in front of everyone by third parties - whether they be whistleblowers or friends. That would do way more harm to them than good.

      the problem is all the abusers had rumors for years about them being abusive. people who are not sexual abusers just do not have these kind of rumors floating around for years. I said anonymous whistle blowers for there own legal protection. And one of sam peppers victims had said she searched and searched the internet to see if anyone else had said anything. protecting people is cool! warning people is cool! silence has not worked in the past.

    I made the exception with Alex Day because I personally haven't heard any proof that he has committed sexual assault. It would seem that he had sex with people who felt like they had to have sex with him but through ignorance he wasn't aware of their feelings. He's made a daft mistake and hurt a few people through blundering around in a carefree manner and not gaining verbal conformation from people before sleeping with them, but it would seem that he feels upset that this was the case and is striving to make sure he doesn't put someone in that position again and he didn't intend to cause any pain. If I hear some kind of conclusive proof then that will change things.

    • @yourcherryybomb
      @yourcherryybomb 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think the sexual assault that Alex Day has been accused of is a little bit more complex than other instances, people said that Alex emotionally manipulated them and made them feel like they owed him sex for the attention he gave them, this still counts as rape, even if none of the girls actually protested at the time. I'm pretty sure that most people would be able to tell from body language whether someone doesn't want to have sex, and if its a girl under the age of 16 they shouldn't even put them in that situation because legally the girl cannot say yes.

    • @gerrardandstuff
      @gerrardandstuff 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Flo Heath I didn't think the people he actually slept with were under 16? I think we need to look at his case more carefully then. He doesn't seem to remember any indications suggesting the girls didn't want to sleep with him and if this is the case with him then it must be the case in many other places around the world. As always the answer here is education and raising awareness. If guys/girls know how to recognise when someone is uncomfortable we can avoid these situations where one party doesn't realise and the other doesn't know how to say no.

    • @Ladylyla
      @Ladylyla 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreeing to sex because you feel like you have to is not giving consent. Not gaining verbal confirmation is not getting consent. Being coerced into having sex is not giving consent. Everything that you just described is nonconsensual sexual contact, which means it IS sexual assault and/or rape.

    This is all disgusting I know. But at the same time I think it's wrong to be accusing and shaming people before there is proof. Sexual assault ruins peoples lives but so do false allegations. I'm saying this from a completely neutral stand point too as I have no clue who any of these people are. This however does of course not mean that these women should be insulted or ignored, instead it should be dealt with behind the scenes and ONLY then should this come to public attention. Otherwise innocent people can get caught up in the net and never recover their reputation damage. Those who are guilty though do need to do their time though.

      Yeah, that's all fair enough. If they will instantly make themselves guilty then that settles that. It's more the others I was referring to anyway. Because whilst most of the others may indeed be guilty there's probably at least one falsely accused person in the lot who will be ruined by it.

    So many people think these rapists should be in jail and I don't think a single victim has actually gone to the police as far as I'm aware? Don't get me wrong, I understand it must be so hard to talk to people about it (if you've made what a rapist has done public then good on you, you're so brave) but I feel it would be more daunting to tell the Internet where you will get people saying your lying and supporting the abuser than to a police officer. Idk if that's how it is apparently the police can be highly unsupportive (which is disgusting) and personally I can talk to a single stranger better than I can talk to my family/public.
    (Let's use the Jason case as an example here) Ania hasn't gone to the police (I don't think) but would it be possible for a viewer to show a police officer her video and the video where Jason admits to it and get him jailed or something? I mean he's admitted to it. It's not like if he was questioned by the police he could deny it as they have proof it's true!
