How can you rise above the waters when you feel a disturbed family member may be, in fact, evil? See my live discussion here: th-cam.com/users/liveMcMvlD0AFVA?si=HhRo3xQrHSckehVV

Tysm for talking about confabulation and false memories- the false reality these people create and then try to force everyone to go along with under threat of massive tantrums. Over thanksgiving my mother accused me of stealing my deceased grandmothers things when she saw boxes of mine in the garage. I had just moved them from my storage unit in a different state. A lot of them were labeled with my name on it. One was even labeled “Dana’s Blankets” in my mother’s own handwriting. My dad and sister went along with her. My dad was screaming at me saying I need counseling and I always cause drama. Any evidence I gave them that they were mine made them angrier. I feel insane. But it was actually all of them going along with this false reality that was mentally disturbed. I’m very shaken. My therapists believe my mother has NPD.

      Praise God! That's wonderful.
And I am so grateful for Dr. Peck. I read this book People of the Lie in college so many years ago and it was all the validation I needed.

Very familiar with the word salad disturbed thinking. It's very sad and the family member does not want help, he feels superior to everyone. He is very ill and also a bully/abusive. Had to cut contact with this person, very dark and disturbing. History of drug/alcohol abuse and extensive criminal records as well. But in denial about toxic dysfunctional upbringing.

Never easy to deal with. I'm sorry you know this kind of person.
Let me just say that not everyone like this feels superior. Those who do may have associated narccist tendencies. Sometimes these individuals are too disturbed to see themselves. But again, those who feel and act superior often have narccistic traits.

Good to know. I think half the channel will be able to relate, sadly.
Such a tiring and exchausting mix of trauma. What makes this worse is that not everyone is going to see that disturbed family member as "disturbed." That makes this trauma and experience much worse.

It is funny how you mentioned an uncle who flips out out of nowhere, to the point where you have to walk around eggshells around him at 13:45. That's my uncle to a 'T'.

      😫I'm sorry. You're welcome.
It can "follow you" if you're not careful. Trauma happens when you don't have the skills to manage the impact of that trauma. So many people end up here. I'll talk more on Friday!

Your channel is an eye opener. Your channel would help many ethnic families in western society. My parents fled from war and decided to have kids in a society they dislike.

Unfortunately, my sister who wants total control over my life, who do I talk to or connect with, how people see me, making sure she goes behind my back to create stories that will make me look less or even bad, all because she always felt less than me. She lies, manipulates to hide who she really is and makes sure that I won’t look better than her, loved or appreciated more than her, although my authenticity is the opposite to her total fakeness. A grandiose narcissist chasing popularity at all costs. Mad, uncontrolled, sneaky behavior, obsessed with my life.

That sounds like home. Both elder brothers are such, the second most viciously harmful backstabber repeatedly. Of course they tag me crazy, it is an investment - lest I speak about their shameless sadism and pettiness. Homicidal level of selfishness - I used to call it as a teenager, struggling to grasp how can siblings be so spineless and cruel. Had no idea back then that 30 years later I would still fear for my life when near them, and that I was so shockingly accurate. I have been saving my life from them my whole life...

Yes, I remember we discussed this a year or so ago. It's frustrating, disheartening, and even angering at times when a spouse is "imprisoned" to his or her family. It's like a cult-mindset to say the least.

My experience with psychotic people, mainly homeless women. I had been attacked by a few women I didn't cross a word with and they didn't give a sign to me before I was attacked. Schizoids are somehow attracted to me but although none have tried to hurt me, there's something like a thin line to them I know a word, whichever unknown word I don't know, can trigger them.
Both are disturbing but what I am familiar with is passive aggression and cluster B personalities that, although they look most normal, they can switch from Doctor Jekyll to Mister Hyde without a warning... those are the most disturbing because there are no previous signs.
I grew up in a narcissistic family and now I can spot an overt narcissist miles ahead but convert ones know how to play the long game.
Still, sometimes they get on the verge of delusions and paranoid behavior but not often and their disturbing delusional thinking doesn't show up in public settings.
I had a sister raising hell for no reason, except something happened to her she needed to dump it in a familiar setting, since they are so worried about their outside look and she was blaming me for something I had no fault but in the middle of her tantrum, she stopped and another voice inside her said: "you stood by me in my worst moment" but like a ray of sun in a cloudy day it disappeared and she kept on barking at me.
That's disturbing and scary because they look most normal but I can't help to think that narcissistic personalities are fighting against psychosis continually.
People with cptsd can get so out of touch with reality but their fears I find them authentic and I say it because of my aunt. She married a psycho and was nullified by everyone but I understand that kind of fear... they can't name it most of the time because they know they won't believe her but their fears are real. Usually they are burdened by a lifetime of abuse, subtle, invisible but consistent. They are right but have lost the capacity to calmly describe it because they are deep in learned helplessness.

    Is that narcissistic or disturbed?

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

It can be both, depending on what you are dealing with and the "criteria" met. In other words, "disturbed" doesn't mean that person would meet the criteria needed to be diagnosed with anything. Narcissistic means that the individual has a clinical disorder.
