The people who have the curse are cursed because their ancestors abandoned their gods, forsaken them and fled to kheanria.

I believe the reason why the archons destroyed Khaenri'ah is because they had no choice. No matter how powerful they are, Celestia will always be the ruler and the absolute authority of Teyvat. Archons are essentially puppets of Celestia, given the illusion of freedom. Celestia hated Khaenri'ah, while I believe the archons don't have any problem with Khaenri'ah. It was Celestia who called upon the Seven. Perhaps through intimidation or the archons being somewhat afraid of Celestia. Since the invasion of the abyss monsters was happening, perhaps Celestia used that excuse to destroy Khaenri'ah. We all know Zhongli admitted to have participated, but the other archons are vague or there is no evidence. Since the five archons had died and replaced, we will never know whether they willingly did it or not. Even we don't even know whether Venti participate or not, since the only story or mentions of him during the Cataclysm was him fighting Durin at Mondstadt.
Khaenri'ah was big chilling until the Invasion of Abyss monsters. We know the Abyss itself has some shred of intelligence given it targets weak areas and takes opportunities. Celestia probably didn't even care until they started messing with abyss shit

The first one is the Crimson Moon Dynasty which probably lasted til Archon War. After, the second and last dynasty is the Eclipse Dynasty. It was last ruled by King Irmin. It lasted until the cataclysm 500 years ago
