      I guess I never gave any of them any real thought. I suppose the closest would be that I think of Italians with dark hair and eyes. Yes, just like you. lol But of course it makes perfect sense that there would be a lot of variation. I try very hard not to prejudge anything.

    Oh and I liked what you said about your local vendor. To me it all sounds so wonderful. I sure hope that the big supermarkets don't ruin Italian food like they have the American food.

    As a fan of the Montalbano TV series, I assume Sicily is full of beautiful scenery and architecture.

    I heard most of them. When you were talking about the Mafia, I was thinking about the Stero type about how "All" Italians carry a knife. The Nap in the middle of the day I heard about but I knew that was wrong. What about how all Italian Trains run on time !

    • @ItalianTeacherValentina
      @ItalianTeacherValentina  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, Will, the trains unfortunately do not always run on time , but I must say they have improved quite a bit in the past few years 😅

    Hi. Out of curiosity it would be good for a film of what you and your friend eat for lunch & supper. Just the food would do. Don’t have to see your friends. Oh breakfast would be interesting as well. Please.

    Regarding the napping part: it is not exclusive to Italy. I was born in El Salvador and as a kid during the early 80s I remember many of the mom & pop sores closed during lunch.

    I cannot say how many times when i was in school that people would ask me the mafia question. I started getting creative with my responses because it started getting a)really annoying, b)low-key narcissistic behavior and c)bullying.

    Would you say that shops being closed during the lunch hour a more regional thing, or if the shopowner is of the more traditional mindset?

    • @ItalianTeacherValentina
      @ItalianTeacherValentina  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Until some years ago, there was a national law that actually forbade shop owners to open outside the morning and evening hours, so they had to close for lunch break. Now we don't have that limit anymore, but local administrations can regulate that. So it depends on the specific city more than on the region.

    Me at a fast-food place that offers 'paninis' [usually served on 'panini bun'] : "I'll have the ham and cheese panino.."
    Counter person: "Okay, a ham and cheese panini, anything else ?"
    Me: "No, I only want one" Counter person : ....?? This game can go several rounds...
    And yes, the ##&&!! Mafia remark EVERY TIME I meet somebody, my antecedents are all Northern Italians.

    Just look at so many great Italian cities with uncountable UNESCO markings and that are testaments to the artistic nature of the people. The people must be inspired to do that as it is an arduous task requiring enormous energy, planning & coordination. When one could look at Italy from such perspective, all mis-information and prejudice, will be wiped off in seconds. No worries! God loves Italy!😎

    The biggest problem is the Americans films who push their idea of an Italian stereotype and Americans of Italian ancestry who over exaggerate Italian mannerisms
