Niall, conditions will be worse for the public if the strikers lose. Dublin Bus have been increasing the fare and reducing services- not the workers. It's short term pain for long term gain. Everyone's been giving out that the Irish don't fight, well they are and it's the Dublin Bus workers. 100 years since 1913 transport workers have been the frontline of decency, working terms and conditions. We need solidarity, unity and a fight back!
I notice the media were trying to pick you apart there, saying well everyone took a cut, what they dont realise is that you are on lower wages and getting them cut! I know the strike will piss many people off - but i think you are doing the right thing. The fact that dublin bus management tried to take away your pension and your rights in a labour court says it all to me.
That does not take into account all of management! They earn a tidy packet! Despite rumours and claims to the contrary in sections of the media the average wage of a Dublin Bus driver, including overtime and all other payments, is €38,000. The average wage for clerical staff is €32,000. People have to pay creches, USC, mortgages, all the usual. Cutting their pay means less spent locally. It's a no brainer.
Lad's ye are 100% correct to stand up and fight for what is right. Millionaires and billionaires have walked away from their debts and we the Irish public have to pay their private debt. They want us all to work for nothing and pay more and more taxes. Enough I say and I and my friends are 100% behind the Dublin Bus Drivers.
The point is that even on a 5 day a week full time job it is not enough to live on. Some drivers get FIS or family income supplement. Thus the state is subsidisng people's wages. That probably indicates some of the wage levels these workers are on.
Good to see one organization exercising there right to strike in this god for sake country, hope the Dublin Bus lads get everything they are entitled to, the government is not about the people, finally some have the will the fight this oppression.
They discuused that option but couldn't take it as going to work and sitting in the driving seats or into the maintenance depot would have been de facto acceptance of the imposed terms and conditions. They did it before and it was very successful.
Me and the Mrs are unemployed. We had to take a taxi to sign on today in the rain, and another taxi back. Not a great situation to be in when you have little or no money. Then when we got back, the water meter folks are at our home checking us out for a new meter. Yet another money grabbing exercise by the government who wont take a pay cut themselves. But i back you folks all the way. The madness has to stop somewhere, and i fear for my benefits in the next budget also. Unemployed 3 years now.
Absolutely support the strike, 100%. High time the bastards running this country were stood up to. Varadker should be sacked for refusing to intervene. If he's too high and mighty to negotiate with trade unions, then let him piss off and work for Ryanair. Hope the railway and Luas come out as well. Tie up the city! Spirit of 1913!!!
if Ireland wasn't such an expensive kip to live in, your wages could seem to be excessive, the average monthly wage for a bus driver in Germany (the power house of Europe) is 2,340 euro. far less than you're on. BUT, that's a properly run country, and we will never be able to do that here.
Obair iontach lads! HOPE TO SEE DUBLIN BUS SUPPORTING 2013 LOCKOUT ON SEPTEMBER 18TH. Please get involved as yous can make a huge differance to help your country and her people, Mile buiochas agus ard mor!!
They discuused that option but couldn't take it as going to work and sitting in the driving seats or into the maintenance depot would have been de facto acceptance of the imposed terms and conditions. They did it before and it was very successful. But workers could be sued. They've it all sewn up!
Very proud of my Dad, my uncles and their co workers for taking a stand. Families will suffer if these cuts are made.

Pity public sector would not have shown the same courage when levies and pay cuts were introduced.

It's more than bus drivers! The clerical and all admin staff and maintenance AND inspectors are out too.
the point is that they are on the breadline in spite of the work

Best of luck guys ! An example to the rest if the country . We've taken too much for too long !

About time some stood up... we'll all had enough
more working class in ireland need to take a stand
just wanna ask
why not ALL the dublin bus drivers in the strike
coz i think that would 100% pressure the authorities :)
Why not work, and take no fares. Surely that will send a bigger msg to mgmt, while at the same time ensuring full support from the public.
WE SUPPORT THE STRIKERS TOO :->
come on man i need to go to work i dont wanna walk :(
Good on ye!! I agree with yous!!!!!
Why not go back to work and just not take fares, some people (esp the elderly) really rely on you... Surely that's a win/win?
Keep it up lads.
An example to the rest of the country .We've taken too much for too l
Respect
