This is really the best teardown I've seen when disassembling ps3 really clear and very clearly thank you for that. I just have the same model ps3, is this the last version they made of the ps3 slim? I caused a problem myself with replacing the thermal paste, unfortunately I broke off 1 bolt when assembling the coolhouse (heatsink).Model Sony PlayStation 3 - CECH-2504B this model doesn't bother those bad NEC / TOKIN Capacitors on the motherboard. I wanted to keep this model ps3 I will have to search for a new coolhouse for my ps3 :/
wow. I though replacing the cmos battery was easy. fixit showed its just underneath the bluray drive but it wasnt the case. this showed me the right way
15:55 that shit is so HARD to get in if you don't take out the fan & battery. Pain in the ass i didn't have all the right tools to get my Fan out & it took me over a hour to wedge the cable connection in while having the fan & battery in the way of me actually just slipping in the ribbon. The best way to do this is to Insert one end of the actual ribbon cable & the rest should follow in as you shove the bluray player back into place. Other than that the PS3 is easy to take apart. I don't even keep screws on my Cech2501a model

@@unbvld its a problem by where the harddrive is. Every other part sinks down but aroind the harddrive is where it wont sink it stays caugjt on something as if it is too long
@@mr8balla269 try to softly feel around where you feel the most resist from something going down into the grooves. Check all corners make sure your ports are into their cutouts correctly.
hey man i stupidly disconnected the power/eject ribbon from the side with the buttons and now i cant get it to seat properly. do you have any tips for my situation?
If you could some way send me a picture of what your talking about that would help me. The power button module has a clamp and must be flipped up, then you may slide the ribbon in. And of course lock the ribbon clamp down to tighten
+geerob gizzle it took me a bit to, and that was using tweezers. I just sat both hands underneath the br drive and seated it down/guided in pretty easy after that

Hello, my PS3 Slim has a bizarre problem..... when i turn it on, it stays silence for more than 30 seconds (no fan, no hdd checking etc...) just the green light, and then after those seconds the system will boot normally. it also has audio glitches after some minutes of playing, i can't boot to Safe Mode and cant play PS2 Classics (blackscreen), what is the issue ?
@@unbvld i tried without HDD and with other HDD, it shows same symptoms of long boot for both (30 seconds or more) but this time it dosen't appear nothing on screen...

As soon as I removed the disc drive and saw the nonsensical placement of the cable, I knew it would've been problems, I put my system back together and sure enough, the disc drive did not work. I followed the video you linked and I got to put the ribbon cable back in place, now the game runs fine.
Interesting differences between this model and my cech 2002a. Fan is much easier to remove in that one. But in the 3002, it's fixed to the motherboard. Sony definitely makes slight changes depending on the model lol. At least any revision of the PS3 slim will be better than the fat models. I'd even say that the slim is better than super slim. Just because it's easier to do maintainance. Since the SS model is more compact, they fixed most of the parts to the motherboard. Even the Bluray drive which needs replacing in mine 😂 go figure.
@@SuperFamiKing you should bolt a multi-speed (low/med/high) pc case fan into that free slot, power it via external fan controller or you can mod your own ps3 power cord to split off into that connector (requires rewiring knowledge). It’s a bit overkill for cooling but the ps3 needs it. You could also solder it to the PSU directly

Those specialty screws are called tamper resistant (or proof) torx tip. It takes a special type torx tip tool to correctly remove them!
If you don’t want to buy a specialty torx head you can just use a perfectly sized flat head. That’s at least what I did with great success

You can only replace a blueray player if you have cfw or if you swop the boards over

Sounds like your hard drive is going bad, but I'm not exactly sure

This was filmed nearly 10 years ago, at that time I didn’t have audio capabilities. I did what I could do.
