Well, Kadabra is only its English name. Its Japanese name is Yungellar (or Yungerar) and if you flip the kanji for the n sound of its name across a 45 degree line from the upper left to the lower right, you get the kanji for the ri sound. Yuri Gellar had a pretty good reason to feel mocked.
Another interesting little tidbit that I've seen (not sure if it's been fixed yet) but you cannot trade a kadabra and prevent its evolution. Either by pressing b or by having it hold an everstone it will evolve regardless. People say it's still due to the uri controversy to prevent too many kadabra from running around.
It almost died for me because of Ruby/Sapphire being such a boring drag to get through - and then that unbearable honking which they dared to call music. However a long time later (Black2/White2 were already released by that point) I gave it another chance and played the remake of Gold/Silver. Can't say I regretted it. Caught up with all the other games as well. Actually absolutely love the remakes of Ruby/Sapphire. Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald though can go in the trash for all I care.
As far as pokemon with moves that make no sense, Charizard can learn Dig with a TM in Pokemon Let's Go (and I think in Red/Blue too). Yes, Charizard, that flying fire type can learn.....Dig.
