Say what you will, McCain had a sense of humor and the ability to joke about himself. That's a rare quality. I might not have agreed with him on politics, but he was a good guy. RIP, John, and I wish your family well.

@mww2821 By that point, he probably figured "What the hell, why not?" As I recall as it got closer to election day in 2008, it looked increasingly likely that Obama was going to win regardless of what McCain did. Might as well have fun right? Kind of reminds me of SNL's Dukakis After Dark sketch in 1988, except the real Dukakis didn't do that bit. I was impressed that both McCain and his wife agreed to appear in this and they seemed to have fun doing it.

I think they elected to self-destruct. They made a deal with the devil supporting Trump to get their judges, pass the tax cut primarily for the wealthy and corporations, and kill off as many regulations as they could - again to free up their friends running corporations.

I respect Mr. McCain and his wife for doing this so close to the election. We need more like John McCain, not less. I lean left but dang we need more moderates in both parties. People working together despite their differences.
We need politicians that best serve the needs of this country (economic opportunity, infrastructure, environment, healthcare) and not the bottom-line of greedy, bribing corporations.

Huge respect for McCain who could have let Fey destroy Palin as usual and make himlook good. Instead, obviously, he told them not to portray her as ignorant as she really is. So, in general, it failed to be funny as usual but the "going rogue" part was great.
Much of McCains's policies I do not care for. This appeaance on SNL is pure genius and his wife agreed as well. Great sense of humor and humanity.
