    Great tutorial. Easy with the right equipment which most people dont have. You take a lot of pride in your work that HDMI port will last the life of the console now especially if you used 60/40.

      All it takes is one knock and it's toast. So it could last the life of the unit, or one week. Bad design; the port should have been a separate module, connected to the motherboard by a ribbon cable. Sony saved a dime and this is the sad result.

    looks very professional and the results are awesome.... I am a beginner in soldering and have done a number of very bad soldering perhaps because I use bad and cheap stuff. I didnt know that I need to apply soldering flux to make soldering better... To detach components have been very hard for me and by watching your work I may be better off getting one if I may afford one. Thank you for providing us with an excellent how-to tutorial to make us better at soldering.

    I recently asked Sony if they would discount a service cost after offering to fix my HDMI port for $100. I am an avid Sony user as I have owned multiple ps1, 2, 3, and 4 consoles and have a Sony TV. They replied stating they stand behind the quality of their products and that this issue is not an issue most PlayStation owners are likely to experience. I made them aware of your video for this reason. These systems should be built with the ability to switch out HDMI cords, as I play on different TVs depending on different situations.

  • @ShaDoWxGFX
    @ShaDoWxGFX 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I finally completed this repair successfully after 2 hours! My main problem as you mentioned in the video was those cheap HDMI ports that don't align properly. I had to slightly bend the pins before I soldered the port as the pins towards the edges kept going out of alignment. I would only recommend this repair to those who are actually familiar with a hot air gun, solder wick, flux and a soldering iron.

    Thanks for the video. It takes me many hours to desolder the hdmi stick with a hot air station at 900 Fahrenheit degrees. Of course I use flux. Is it too low temperature or any tips for improving the time spent on it?
    Thanks!

    • @mekhiedwards6479
      @mekhiedwards6479 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can use a little bit of low melt solder to help the joint melt at a lower temperature

    • @the_socompsp
      @the_socompsp 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      chances are your soldering station isnt reporting the right temp, if 900 isnt melting solder then something is wrong and most likely the air coming out if the wand ISNT actually 900, yuou should get hold of a good thermocouple and measure the actual temp.

    • @User_1795
      @User_1795 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are using one of those common garbage wands. That's your problem. They lie about the temp and they suck.

    Hey Steve my names Mike just had a question I got a ps4 that was smashed I put new case fan and battery it boots to wlod so took apart I'm grounded all over the place, got any suggestions on what would cause multiple grounds and boots to white light

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike! So it boots to the solid white light? It's always hard to know with drops or "smashes"! If it's truly and HDMI issue I'd be checking the filters and the ic chip. If you're trying to find the short then try removing the chip and see if the shorts go away. If they don't try removing other stuff until the short goes away. Keep me updated.

    • @mustangmike6421
      @mustangmike6421 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it does boot to white light the filters are okay, I remove ic chip I still got the grounds but it's not the only thing that's grounded it seems like most of the resistors are reading to ground

    • @mustangmike6421
      @mustangmike6421 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Went over the board I didn't see any cracks any suggestions that would ground so much stuff at once

    Why is it 90$ for repair don't you think that a little too much

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  7 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      Actually, compared to most repair shops it's a great deal. Many of them charge $150 and some of those have very little experience.
      We price it at $90 because that's what we need to charge in order to stay in business. If we could price it lower we'd love to do that but at this point that's the lowest we can go for it.
      If you're looking for a cheap repair you can always find an Ebay repairman.

    I have a question. First off, great video. I did the repair, but it didn't work. Opened it back up and found a bridge between the pins I hadnt seen.
    Do you guys think that could short and destroy the HDMI chip? or that redoing the HDMI port without any errors should work fine?

  • @PimptatoPCs
    @PimptatoPCs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just ruined my friends PS4. I heated up the HDMI port and wiggled it free, but a few of the little pins were still stuck enough to pull the pad away from the motherboard. The tiny wires are still attached to the mobo, but pulled off the PCB a little. I don't even think a pro could lay those wires back down and have then function properly. If you are going to attempt this, make sure that ALL 19 of the small pins are completely melted before you try to remove the HDMI port. I only have myself to blame, but I think video tutorials should emphasize how important it is to make sure that the solder is melted on all 19 pins before removing the HDMI from the board.
