Shadow of the Colossus remake for the PS4 was a gem to behold
That's my pick as well. Kinda surprised Johnny didn't mention it but perhaps he'll do a second part down the road.
Yeah where the hell is it? This is like a list of recent remakes, not 10/10 remasters remakes.
My mind is still blown that we are looking at Johnny sitting on the floor here.

I would love a Chrono Trigger Remake
I'm playing through CT for the first time on my Steam Deck and I'm entering the late game portion and I've been saying since about the mid-point that a Chrono Trigger full-on remake would be friggin' amazing. A day one purchase for me.
My favorite remake is still Resident Evil (2002). I love how it still holds up today and I've always been a fan of tank controls/fixed camera angles.
It's just sad they lost the orignial data for the video backgrounds and can't re-render them in HD. Some areas are upscaled really poorly. The art style still looks great though.
Thoroughly enjoyed it on GC.

Man, i recently fired up my wii to play it. I was dodging the second zombie on the statue room, and everything was a doozie, the moviments, the graphics....
Still holds up today
At the time I couldn't understand how the game could have such incredible graphics. Now I know, the backgrounds were literally video files. FMV backgrounds. Insane. For that reason, it still holds up very well visually today.
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition got me into the whole Xeno series

Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World is the "single" game with more content of all time. Amazing!
Super Mario All Stars, Metroid Zero Mission and REmake but my favorite remake of all time is MGS TTS. It gives you multiple ways to approach the game and at the end of the day if you don't want to use them, you don't.
Dragon Quest V on the DS. Really love the spritework, it makes great use of both screens and the new marriage option is good fun.

The Crash Bandicoot & Spyro collections really were a ton of fun to me! I was so happy to revisit them.
I second the Crash and Spyro remasters. The N Sane Trilogy is the very reason I have a PS4 in the first place.
I would love a proper sequel for the spyro trilogy.

The Gamecube RE1 remake is a 10/10, I absolutely love it.

THPS 1+2. Loved them back in the day and they nailed the remakes. The Switch version isn’t up to the high bar of the big consoles but THPS in handheld is a new past time for me.

They are very good, but definitely not perfect. The realistic art style betrays what the originals were going for, and even impacts the gameplay (not being able to see collectibles as obvious). Besides that, they are great. Its such a shame that we’ll probably never see 3 & 4 get the same treatment.

My 10/10 remakes are Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask 3D on the 3DS. Even on the small screen, they blow the N64 originals away graphicswise.
I feel the same way about Star Fox 64 3D
I still don't understand why they don't release these for the switch. Yeah, they'd have to do some adjustments with the dual screen, but these remakes should be enjoyed at high resolution. They are very beautiful games.

No doubt man. I remember playing Ocarina of Time 3D countless times. Such an awesome Zelda game. One of my top Zelda's of all time.
Xenoblade Chronicles DE on Switch. The original on Wii was already a masterpiece yet somehow they’ve even managed to top that. Especially the quest system. Was finally able to 💯 complete the game due to the quest tracking update amongst a variety of other improvements.
Metroid prime really surprised me. The way it looks and feels made me think more developers could use some of their tips for optimization
My 10/10 is Resident Evil 2 remake!

Don't know about it being perfect. The original has better music and mood sound. It was also far too dark when it didn't need to be.

I'm not good at scoring games but having a switch remaster (or updated port anyhow) of Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure was fantastic. One of the best JRPG stories out there.
a sky remake in the kuro engine would go insanely hard. the visuals have basically peaked, especially after crimson sin with the animation for in-game cinematics

@@FirstLast-yc9lq yeah kim played the first cold steel in a really old video and sort of bounced off it a bit after nord (at least in the video, she might have finished it but rly didn't seem into the game at all). which is a huge shame because like you said, from sky all the way up to kuro the series is so up his alley it hurts lmao. especially knowing his affinity for ys, which, while i get from a nostalgic angle, and i've certainly enjoyed a few like oath and origin, ys overall reaaally pales in comparison to the unparalleled ambition and continuity of the kiseki series--not to mention the excellent turn based combat (which i'm also pretty sure johnny prefers to action style combat? iirc at least).
@@acerola3576 yess god the Sky trilogy in a remake would be so good and is one of most wanted things ever. Persona 2 duology deserves it too. Also unfortunate with Sky that only vita Japanese only versions got voice acting. You have to find them online and put them in your files on pc but it’s so much better with that
It sucks the ps4 didn’t get the new version the switch got. Also sucks they didn’t include the new quests from vita version
Recently, I've really enjoyed The Last Of Us Part 1, Dead Space, and the RE4 Remake. Capcom is just on fire with the RE remakes. It's so good to have survival horror back. Here's hoping the Silent Hill 2 Remake is good.
Definitely the mass effect legendary edition. Especially the first game really benefited from it and brought it all together as one huge game
I just played Mass Effect for the 1st time this year through the Legendary Edition. One of the best stories I've ever encountered. Can't believe it took this long for me. Currently playing through 3 to close it out
Even improvements aside, just getting the complete package easily makes this the best version. Especially at release ME3 suffered from relevant story missions and characters being locked behind DLC.

Shadow of the Colossus, for the PS4. That, my friends, is how you remake an old game, without losing its essence!
I never played the original Dead Space. I like RE games so I gave the DS remake a shot, and I was blown away.
Final fantasy x remaster
You hit a lot of my favorites. Bluepoint's remake of Shadow of the Colossus is incredible, too! I also loved the remakes of Pokémon Gold and Silver.
For me Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver on the DS was absolutely a 10/10 remake of the originals.

Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver were my favorite remakes. I already loved the originals because it had the most to offer, and the remakes took it one step further with the post-game content.
One remaster I really love is the Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 HD Remix collection because it included the Final Mix versions of Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, and Birth By Sleep.
Xenoblade Chronicles 1, Final Fantasy 7, Link’s Awakening, and Skyward Sword. Thanks for reminding me about the LoZ remakes.
Romancing Saga: Minstrel Song Remaster on PS4. One of the best turn based RPG's ever made that gets no fanfare at all. The remaster with it's quality of life improvements is the icing on the cake.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters improved upon the originals without changing them drastically...the best kind of 10/10 remaster IMO

"Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition" is a fun & well crafted remaster.
Live A Live, Advance Wars,and Link's Awakening are all 10/10 remakes for me
A remake that doesn't get talked about often, that I like, is Ratchet & Clank for the PS4. Technically a remake of the first game for PS2. Everything has been improved tremendously especially the graphics are some of the best on the console.
And now it runs at 60fps on PS5!
Such a good list Johnny. I would have to say legend of Zelda skyward sword is a 10/10 remaster for me. I really enjoyed that game

I love this concept. Before watching the full video, Trials of Mana instantly comes to mind. I loved playing it on the Switch and want to play it through again!

For me Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is a 10/10 remake…i know many didn‘t like it, but for me personally the new over the top matrix style cutscenes were just awesome 🔥😊
I know a lot of people complain about remakes and how often they release, but the last 5 years or so had some of the BEST remakes ever made. If they were bad, it would be different story but they’re just so good.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 is s a masterpiece, my favourite from the series, i love that game so much and Metroid Prime Remaster is the Gold Standard on how to do a remaster right
I will forever compare any remastered game to Metroid Prime remastered.
Wind Waker HD . ... i never played the original, but this is a pretty flawless game, and they were able to improve the graphics substantially.
Johnny mentions how dramatic the shift from 2D to 3D was with Mario 64, but I really don't think anyone too young to remember can really imagine it. Obviously it wasn't the 1st 3D game, but it blew everything else out of the water in terms of how fluid the movement felt. I remember going to a big box store with a kiosk where you could play it, and the crowd of onlookers was so big that you couldn't even see the TV. They had mounted a second TV on top of the kiosk for the crowd. Everyone was just mesmerized. It was a graphical leap that was basically unfathomable if you had only been exposed to the SNES or Genesis like a lot of us at the time.
Myst in VR. Freely walking around that world was so nostalgic and so bizarre.

I did buy the 'Wii Metroid prime trilogy' for alot of money at the time. I was going to play through it for thd first time , but then the switch remaster released. So I expect to be purchasing this aswel.
Super Mario All Stars on the SNES was the first remaster I remember picking up that was a solid 10 of 10. So was RE-4 as well and the Metal Gear Solid HD collection and Team ICO collection on PS3. Final Fantasy VII Remake is definitely up there as well.

Some remakes/remasters that come to mind are Final Fantasy VII Remake, Super Mario 3D World on Switch, Xenoblade Chronicles DE, and dammit, maybe the Dragon Quest Erdrick Trilogy on Switch - I know that's kinda controversial but it was how I experienced DQ 1-3 and I LOVED all of them. Good times!

That game is such a tight, fun, complete package to me. I just adore it.
Oh man, you me reminded of the moment I walked into a Best Buy and saw Mario 64 for the first time and I was so blown away to see 3D Mario.
I really want a Ridge Racer remastered collection. That would be amazing to play those arcade and PS games again in HD.
I really loved when Ridge Racer 4 came out. I loved the style, the intro, the music/soundtrack, storyline.. basically everything. I'd prob lose my mind if that was remastered. I would be down for a collection for sure.

Bionic Commando Re-armed and the PS4 release of Shadow of the Colossus are a couple of my favourites.
I'm honestly a big fan of remakes! Its a great way to revisit older games with a modern touch up. The latest one I can't wait to play is the System Shock remake!
The new Final Fantasy: Rebirth trailer from the Summer Game Fest looks absolutely ridiculously awesome!

Resident Evil 2 Remake is my favorite for sure. Never played the original, so it was a really good way to experience the game in a more approachable format.

Some of my favorites not mentioned would be the new System Shock remake, Sony's latest remake of Shadow of the Colossus, Mass Effect Legendary edition, and Black Mesa.
Great video. We've been super blessed with remakes the past few years. Nintendo and Capcom have been absolutely killing it.
I gotta give my tip of the hat to Live a Live though. The HD2D engine is honestly incredible at maintaining the artistic integrity of these older titles while completely modernizing. A very rare thing to pull off.

Wow, so many remakes. Crash Bandicoot trilogy, Spyro trilogy, all the RE remakes, Killer Instinct, Mario64, Sunshine, Galaxy, Zelda,and SpongeBob to name a few.

I only just played the original RE remake this past year! I was always intimidated by RE for some reason, just felt way too hard with the inventory management. Only dabbled with it back on GameCube years ago. FINALLY played it and it was incredible. It now has to be maybe a top 5 or top 10 GameCube game for me.
Love to see Links Awakening on here! I absolutely adore that game
More of a compilation than a remaster but the Sonic Mega Collection is such a great package of timeless classics, added with fun extra's. Can't go wrong there.

The Trials of Mana remake is my personal favorite. It captured the charm and essence of the snes original, which was already amazing, and breathed new life with a updated battle system, updated music, and the visuals are gorgeous imo. Definitely underrated. The whole Mana series in general is criminally underrated.

I really enjoyed a couple of the 3DS remakes. Both SMT Strange Journey Redux and Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology were excellent games.

Resident Evil 2 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Remake were both so different than the originals, but that's part of why I loved them so much. Drastically different gameplay but still amazing games in their own right. RE4 Remake stayed closer to what the original RE4 was, which was also great. Those three, and Link's Awakening, are probably my four favorite remakes of all time. all of them are 10/10 for me.
Dude, are you ready for RE4 Remake in VR? I don't think I am ready, haha. I've been playing through Village, and its been one of my favorite VR experiences, but damn its actually intense in VR.
Shadow Man Remaster from 2021. They even reinserted things that were cut out from the game back in the 90's during development. Now, that's dedication.
I'd highly recommend the Spyro Reignited Trilogy for any fans of the original trilogy or those looking to try that universe out. The remastered versions of the music are amazing, but you also have the original soundtrack if you'd rather listen to that, and the graphics are just absolutely gorgeous. It was completely rebuilt from the ground up, different feel on the physics and such, but the creative touches made in the game are just *chef's kiss*.

Could be worse. The Mario 25th garbage they released for the Wii that had nothing on it but ROMs they were too lazy to even change the button prompts to Wii buttons, so everyting that showed you a button was an SNES button
Apart from the faces being a bit different FFX is pretty much perfect for me. Doesn’t really mess with stuff, and I like being able to listen to the original and remastered music. Pretty much preserves a perfect game for me.

Hmm since you said mario 3d all stars, I’m gonna say the sega Genesis collection. Love speeding up the grind in phantasy Star II, IV, shining force, and shining in the darkness!!!
Trials of Mana on the Switch was my favorite remake of recent years.
I'm going through the FF7 remake right now on PS4 and it's also very, very well done.
The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors is a fantastic remake of the SNES Ninja Warriors game. Beautiful 2D sprites and other improvements such as new characters and 2-player co-op. It's definitely one of my favorite remakes.
Diablo II Resurrected was a great way to run through D2 again. It didn't last as long for me without the same access to chat rooms for trading and all that like back in the original but the game world and gameplay was all very well done and great to play through. I'm really looking forward to D4 coming out tomorrow now, or out already if you got the Ultimate edition.
