You two talking camouflage and the restrictions from entering the Grand Canyon reminded me of the time I was hiking deep in the California Sierras 1984? resting on a canyon bluff when I heard a jet approaching and witnessed a silver Canadian marked F-104 with white wings rip through the canyon below me headed north of course...😮
@@tonyledsham2810 they were ex USN and USMC, all taken from 309th AMARC. Originally though, RAF wanted the F-4S, but the Navy or Marines couldn’t let any go.
When I first heard I'd be working with Canadians, I wasn't sure what to expect. I quickly learned that the Taliban fear them. PPLI know their business, have no doubt about that!
44:01 Where @tonyledsham2810 describes being cleared down to 100ft! Does anyone know if the F-5 had a RADALT? Single pilot, map & stopwatch navigation, at 100ft, in the weather being bounced, in a jet with no gas! 🤯
Thanks for the interview!. As a Canadian it is difficult to find this content about the RCAF. And thank you "BONES"!

Still the best aviation podcast by far. Keep up the great work Steve.
Growing up in Montreal, my dad used to take me to the canadair runway, to watch the CF104s and CF5s.
I took a CF-18 into Cartierville just before they made it into a condo development…
Lots of great quotes in this one already, looking forward for the 2nd part.
Thanks @laMoort. On USN fighter sqns, they fine pilots for quoting famous Top Gun movie lines: “I feel the need for speed” etc😉

Absolutely fascinating guy. I listened to part 2 first........loved his tales of his tour on the F3. Great interviewer and interviewee.
Great interview 🎉
One of the best interviews yet 👌 thank you
Fantastic interview, can’t wait for part 2
Another fantastic interview and guest. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Episode 2 is out. Please “like” and subscribe, to encourage Steve. He doesn’t monetize these podcasts.

great interview !
28:10 Actually, the RAF only bought F-4Js, pressing them into service as F-4J(UK) aircraft. Indeed, as Bones said, with 74sqn “Tigers”.
Thanks for the correction (they all look the same 😉). I think they were ex-USMC?

Wait, no F15s! Nice to break the mold and Bones tells a ripping yarn
Episode 2 drops Saturday 02 Dec. Flying the RAF Tornado F-3 in Cyprus, Alaska, the Falklands and combat air patrols (CAP) over Bosnia.
Bones is absolute fantastic to listen to!! 💯🤙🏻🫡

Politely defending the CF-5 - an airframe that would try to kill you if you pressed it in ACM or ground attack. Only in Canada you say?
Fantastic guest. Need more. Mic drop.....

No radalt, no RWR, no weapons, no fuel and no fear!
