If you went back to Olivia she tells you to go to another guy in Rennes who is organizing a city militia, separate from what Dupont is doing. That mission tells you to donate equipment such as weapons and armor to equip that militia. It's basically another drain on your florins. Since you went into battle with the mercenaries with just the nobles and your own men, minus the city militia, you lost due to being heavily outnumbered. With the militia, the mercenaries don't make it into the city.
"Twen, twenty five hun, erm, thoudsand florins!" "I stuttered just hearing that!
Also, have you seen those warriors from Outremmer? They have curved swords. CURVED. SWORDS.
Do you get to the cloud district very often? Oh, what am I saying? Of course you don't.
Congratulations you’ve found a speed run strat! By not scouting the farms and raiding the rebel/mercenary bases, they will overpower the city’s defences no matter what, which means you immediately skip chapter 5 and go straight to interlude……. Spoilers ahead as usual…….
In the interlude chapter, you will have all the time you want training and preparing for the mission to the desert, there will only be 2 optional quests, one is a fighting competition with a crazy strong boss fight (which isn’t really worth it unless you want the achievement). I recommend you just keep training and training or scavenge something to make money / waterskins.
The other is a tough mission if you want to marry Cecelia, you’ll have to infiltrate somewhere and fight several enemies back to back, doesn’t sound too hard, but the catch is you can’t equip a single piece of armour to successfully infiltrate, and carry only a one handed weapon (sad heavy battle axe noises). So you need to rely on your stats, items and rng to win the entire thing. Go through with the mission and if you succeed, Cecilia will be so happy when you return from your desert mission, you’ll also get one last “happily ever after” CG……..
Oh and if you want to get the achievement of ending the game with full virtue, bring canteens or waterskins, realistically you only need around 6, but the hoarder mentality can pay off……
When you’re at the desert, you have a few quests that are also completely optional, because half of which is just trying to seduce the governor’s daughter, the other half is doing the governor’s dirty work for him. The hospital quest is nice for getting some virtue and rep, but you need antidotes 1,2&3 plus medicine and potent medicine. I recommend buying them beforehand at the bazar / just craft them. The rest are just combat quests or money checks, so do thicken your wallet up a bit, don’t bother upgrading your squad if you’re going to trek towards El Mansur
Oh and more tips on desert combat, chugging canteens and waterskins gives you a great buffer to the heat fatigue mechanic. Basically each equipment stat penalty you have will give you fatigue each turn, which means you have to go super light armour, or get a good trinket or two. Here’s where armoursmith really helps, because with the right combination & high enough craftsmanship you can make custom armour with 0 stat penalties, they won’t have the best armour stats, but it’s much better than nothing.
Desert combat is also a chore, most of your opponents will have poisoned weapons of some kind, so if you left Cecilia’s gift in your chest somewhere, dust it off and use it unless you want to chug antidotes. Your squad mates also get more tired depending on how “heavy” their equipment is, which is why highwaymen and peasants are slightly better here. All in all they’re here to ensure your survival, no need to invest too much into them……
The El Mansur travel option is always available, it’s a very long trek with some fights in between, and a surprising boss fight at the end. This is the final test, succeed and you’ll get a happy ending. If you fail? well at least you’ll get a lot of generation points, rank bannerlord does not cap off at level 1000, so yay?……..
After defeating the bandits, you need to talk to the named people in the town. You get additional tasks, including arming the citizens.
The rondel is probably one of my favorite accessories in this game. It doesn't just destroy armor, it also adds to the damage you do to the enemy when armor partially blocks your attacks, which is huge against enemies with extremely good armor coverage and high armor values.
I think you would've been better off visiting the bathhouse in Rennes. Mortify takes more time, and with all the injuries you get from it, I suspect it's actually more expensive.
Interesting that you lost that battle, not sure why that happened. Maybe you have to remove all the mercenaries from the area?
This route should be interesting, I haven't seen it yet.
You need to properly clear at least one farm. Preferably two.
Clear one Farm, reduce Mercenary Strength and donate a few piece of Armor to the Guy that arranges the Milita.
For armor, they have coverage. The chance to bypass armor is determined by the gaps in their coverage and your skill to strike those gaps. If the coverage is 100% or higher, even if your weapon skill is max, you still can’t bypass their armor. With 1 armor but 100% coverage, the game will still show you that you have no chance of bypassing their armor. It just that hit an armor that provides 1 armor, even if you don’t bypass the armor, you will still deal significant damage.
I was wondering about that too. So if the enemy has 100% coverage on anything, if you destroy the armor completely it will still show it's covered but its armour is basically 0, therefore it will be counted as if exposed.
25:11 it shows that there is armor but when you hit him, there will be no armor (that hit chance window will show armor the enemy had at the beginning). Just go to enemy inventory(click on enemy portrait), you will find how much armor they have left and what they are equipping.
26:10 don't discard the water skin. you can click on inventory and drink it from there and also manage stuff in inventory, i.e equip consumables to your belt to free up space. You can then click "back" and will be taken to loot window again.
27:31, bro you are too focused on mortifying flesh and training and not doing the story and quests. you failed critical quest(along with a big chunk of story) before joining the battle. This is what the message at 12:27 was, you ran out of time.
Agility is mainly good for dodging
With this Battle Axe, in the Steam Version of HWR (finally bought that), with some 35 Weapon Skill and High Strength, the Overhead Strike attack did 91 damage to enemies, even with armor on them.
Which is immense, but at the cost of 23 Stamina, ouch!

that's really strange? did you forget to do some quests? I also think you should have been able to successfully defend the city??? but the last chapter it seems you didn't do that many quests? Did you speak to Oliva and Dupont after you scouted the farms?

27:09 I think this happened because you didn’t complete the recapture of 2 of the 3 Villages. Need to socialize more with people for those quests.
wow, you lost the squad? if you successfully defend the city, and transition into chapter 6 as usual, you get to keep the squad. I think maybe you didn't do some of Olivia's quests, but chop it up the the game's fault, it should tell you, you need to quests and keep the city's strength higher than merc strength.
The city's strength was above the mercenary's strength but I missed the quest I think, so my bad.
