      Tree tomato because it grows in a tree and not in a plant like the regular tomato.

    the second fruit you taste its called tomato tree (tomate de arbol o tomatillo), as you see inside looks like a tomato but you get it from a tree, the taste is very sour, and it taste better with a little sugar, its commun to make juices from it.

  • @gloristef
    @gloristef 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The tomato is actually tomato de arbol which translates to "tree tomato." We make it in juice, very simple: peel the fruit and blend it with water and add sugar as you wish. You can also use milk instead of water.

    I absolutely love your tasting videos. When you staid that you saved a fruit for the end, a few ran through my mind. One of them was actually Noni. I'm originally from Hawai'i and growing up Noni was coming in our household. However, rather than eating it my Mom used it more as a cleanser. She made a fermented juice out of it. As you showed the Noni, I couldn't help but to laugh because I was once curious too. Until I tried it! Lol. I had the same reaction as you did!

    • @NicoleChiuTravels
      @NicoleChiuTravels  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +kaylahlei I'm so happy to hear you enjoy the tasting videos! I didn't know noni grew in Hawaii! What do you mean by cleanser? Like for a juice cleanse?

    • @FUJIFAM
      @FUJIFAM 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      She would ferment the fruit in a jar and drink the juice that would be released. It was more so a toxin cleanser, so when she had an upset stomach or a hangover lol, she would take it. She also took it once her menstrual cycle was over.

    The "tomato" is a tomate de arbol, or "tree tomato". It is a relative of the better-known vine tomato. No one eats it as a fruit; only to make juice. Remove the skin (easiest way is to make two shallow cuts from top to bottom and back up again, to quarter the skin. Then dip in boiling water for a minute and the skin will peel right off.) Put the meat in a blender with some water and sugar, then strain to remove any remaining seeds. It's a delicious breakfast drink with scrambled eggs!

    The first one is PITAJAYA, not pitaya, and yes its a variety of dragon fruit(: The second one is three tomato because the plant is bigger than the "vegetable tomato" and its usually used for juice. The Uvilla is called gold berry in USA. The red banana is not that common.

  • @Rafael-ym7qx
    @Rafael-ym7qx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The tomate is actually called "tomate de árbol" and it's used to do juice (people add a lot of sugar because is a litte bitter) and it's used to do ceviche and others ecuadorians recipes as well. This fruit has a lot of vitamin C. Definitely, never eat the skin While you still in Ecuador, you should try: zapotes, moras, guayabas, orito (the smallest banana), naranjillas, guabas (the 2 kinds), pomarrosas, babaco and my favorite guanabana. Have fun!

    Have you ever tried Stevia? Well, Uvilla is the fruit they extract Stevia from.

    • @theuglykwan

      Stevia comes from a leaf.

    • @richardoswald2541
      @richardoswald2541 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr. CC you have no idea about what you're talking about. Stevia is a small bush like plant and the leaves are used for their sweet taste. Uvilla is a larger bush in the nightshade family very similar to the tomatillo only the fruit is yellow when ripe. They are both very easy to grow here in San Diego.

    Please identify the fruit but eat it like the locals. The 'Tree Tomate' is drank as a juice since it is very tangy. You will enjoy it better. As you noticed the skin is NOT eaten! Bitter! Believe or not the locals have had centuries on how to eat it. Please follow their advise. Yes, capuli is the local cherry. Uvillas are delicious! Some platanos are to be cooked since they are too starchy. You were lucky with that one!. Last, be careful with that knife. Safety first! Rule of thumb, avoid fruit skins. The last fruit looked like a type of Guayaba/Chirimoya and yes you usually make jams with it since there is not enough sugars in it. Bugs love them though so be cautious. Remember most of the fruit is Very organic so no pesticides in it. Get a local guide. Pls wash the fruit or you are gonna get it the revenge of the Incas.
