This performance is close to magical. Her whisper voice is completely intact, unfortunately her chest voice was so worn and stiff here. She has recovered a few times chest vocally (GMA rehearsals 2013), but the start of her tour this month showed another decline, with now she seems to be taking care of her voice again (see recent performances in Singapore and Malaysia). Mariah needs to keep her eye on the prize which is remaining the greatest singer of all time with the best voice of all time and the Goddess of music channeled through being the best selling female music artist. Just simply having integrity. I can understand why she thinks this is too much pressure to apply to her, but she (she's stated 50% of what she does/is is a singer/vocalist) as a singer/vocalist who grew up with proper technique and care for the voice should not be happy with the way her voice sounds, how she's able to sing. Post TEOM era, she really became so caught up with being a celebrity and publicity, and competing with these other girls that she lost sight of the aforementioned goal, and effectively lost her confidence. I think the separation from Nick and supposed divorce (I do think they were in love with each other, but nonetheless it was still a celebrity marriage because of their antics), the lack of commercial success of her most recent album, the general public taking notice of her lack of vocal prowess (this is truly, mind you, the first time this has ever happened to her), and the American Idol debacle are all making her regain focus of that goal. To end, Mariah Carey is the greatest the world has ever seen and will ever see. She is the epitome of contemporary female music artistry and talent. She is eternal and will achieve fine form again.
