The Sharp X68000 is a fantastic machine and I'm so glad I've been able to experience gaming on it via emulation. Now I need some recommendations of games to look at for a follow video. Comments below please! :)
Thank you for the shout out Dan! Emulating the 68000 isn't something I've had a go at so it's great to see how mature the emulator is for it. Your videos keep getting better and better Batman.
When it was more affordable I waa too lazy as my Pentium 233 mmx emulated it flawlessly back in the day, and when I went back into collecting the price was simply out of my range but I'm still very impressed by this beast and it's amazing game collection.
I’ve always liked the look of the X68000 - it has a wonderful, oddball design to its casing; something that looks partly like a hi-fi, and party like something you’d find in a film. I’ll have to give emulating it a shot myself. Great video!
Cool video mate, I am enjoying your channel. You have nice, chilled out review style. I've been emulating X68000 for a while now, you can get it running along with the Roland MT-32 emulator and games like Sol-Feace sound amazing! Give that a try if you haven't already 👍🏻
If some one wanna experience this through the emulator, I would suggest the standalone emulators for PC such as XM6 Pro 68k and XM6 Type G instead of using PX68k core from Retroarch for one reason : The external sound unit. The PX68k core doesn't support any external MIDI sound unit like MT-32, SC-55 and so on which sounds better in general comparing to the internal FM sound unit. With the XM6 emulator for PC, you can adjust the MIDI sound unit to the one you want. To me who played Akumajou Dracula before, experiencing this game with higher quality like SC-55 and SC-88 Pro is a pure joy. FM sound unit doesn't sound bad by all means, it is just the fact the MIDI sound units in general sounds much better, especially this game. (I know this game was ported to the PS1 called Castlevania Chronicles, but I am just having fun testing different MIDI sound units for x68000 games that support MIDI(s) lol) Daimakaimura is another good example. This game is probably the best home port comparing to the others since this is nearly an 1 on 1 Arcade experience, especially the internal FM sound units which sounds exactly the same. But I also like the MIDI SC-88 sound unit which is also pretty good.
@@nate567987 Sorry for late reply, but I'm using XM6 Pro 68k for the most part (Except for some games that requires MT-32 or CM-64 as Pro for some reasons doesn't accept MT-32 Midi channel even the option manual allows you to do that lol)
I’ve been looking for 30 minutes just for the bios, and all I find is people saying they’ve already put the bios in, and some dudes mentioning that they have special bios that they got from their friend, so please, can you tell me where exactly to find the bios?
If the machine only launched in Japan why would you neef 4 Bios files? Further, many of the X68000 games have a translation patch. Check it out if you haven't already, I'm sure you will be happy that you did.
how do i get games for this running in retroarch please? ive got the bio's files in retroarch/system keropi folder , it boots up and thats about it. I hope you can help

Thanks Neil! I'm very glad it can be done, some quality titles to explore on this system.

I've dabbled with x68000 emulation before but its still a system i would love to own, great video.
Thanks! Me too, even just to look at it 😀
Pretty cool video, but some actual in-depth detail about set-up and using multi-disk games/hdd images would have been helpful.

Thank you. Yes it was designed by Sharp's electronics division not the computer division, hence the hi-fi looks. Still looks great today 👍
Retro Recollections More computers need to be designed by people who don’t make computers. Then we can do away with the crap flat looks we have now.
How many were CPU manufacturers back then before the market left only Intel and AMD for PC? This PC sounds like the ultimate gaming machine.
@Joshua N. Ajang , IBM , Motorola, zilog , texas instruments
Don’t forget Apple (AIM), Cyrix, and Transmeta as well
@@alpzepta apple did not make chips AIM was made by IBM and Motorola takeing turns
Great video! ... very informative! ... the short clip of 3D pac man had me remembering my Archimedes... also loving the side scrolling space games!
I have a lot of games to explore, looks like there are quite a few gems amongst them :)

Looks like the psx port of bubble bobble is based off the x68000 version
What were the best exclusives? I realize it had good ports, but I can already emulate the original games that got ported.
check out this th-cam.com/video/3dHoO6UQo2Q/w-d-xo.html
Is a very nice system, but cost like 2 Amigas 500 with monitor, like 300.000 Yens.
Oh yes not cheap in good condition, even direct from Japan!
great video , ive tried the sharp on retroarch but how do you run multi disks on it?
nice overlay, where i can find it?

hi, what emulator cant use for load HDD images?
What's the music used during the description of the X68000 specs?
Gosh I'm not sure, I picked a lovely mellow tune from the TH-cam Audio Library. Sorry I don't have the assets to the video anymore (lack of space).

Yes I am aware many games have been translated and I will be looking into that. 👍
The pc has 4 roms for the chips on the x68000

I didn’t have much luck with retroarch, I had much better results with the standalone emulator sorry
@@RetroRecollections yeah tried the standalone emu and works fine, do you have any knowledge of the Fujitsu FM towns?
jay jones I did a video on it, check the back catalogue of my channel.
Japanese AMIGA
Amiga but better!
@@automatedinsanity Apart from the os and that it still used 5.25 inch disks but it did have better specs and played games made by capcom and konami.
@@belstar1128 the x68000 did have it’s own nextcube gui like shell called SX-Window, so it did have an gui for it
@@automatedinsanity Yea but i think it has similar limitations as windows 3.1
