The base model was supposed to sell for $39k and it never did. One of the most important reasons to buy luxury is that you’ll get better treatment at the dealer
I have a 2024 Performance manual. Black w/red accented interior. This is my 5th Z car. I've owned and driven a lot of fast cars, and this one gets as much attention as any. People react to the car like it's a Ferrari or Lambo. People are always pulling up next to me on the highway and taking videos of the car. It's really fun to drive and is plenty fast. I think it's much more striking in person than in pictures or videos.
I did buy this version. Black. Carbon fiber over the Sabres. Z1 performance black calipers and drilled and sotted rotors. I sold my 370Z with 50K on upgrades, starting with twin-Turbos etc, to my Nissan mechanic, who did all the work on it for 15 years, for $1. He now takes it to car shows. The new Zis almost as fast but I'm 79 and I don't care. sub 5 second 0-60 is fine with me.
You hardly see these on the road because they are flat out overpriced. A Z performance with a MSRP at the 55k level opens you up to so many more options that have more performance, more luxury, or even both (ie. Mustang GT, M240i, M340i, Supra to list a few). A dealership near me has 13 Performance Z's that are ALL discounted between 5-7k off msrp as low as 47K and still arent selling. I'd say in the mid 40's, this may be a solid car to pick up, but otherwise there really aren't many things that set this car out from the rest of the competition
I used to think the same until I thought about it. In 1996, the 300ZX twin turbo stickered for about $45 grand. Now, about 30 years later, this new Z stickers for about $55 grand…..a roughly ten percent increase over the course of 30 years isn’t bad. Just some food for thought
i have an illogical want for one of these cars, there are some available on lots in my area, and i can't for the life of me fathom giving up my Type-R for one let alone choosing it over stuff like the Supra or even some of the V8 stuff out there in manual.
This is really one of those cars that isn’t photogenic, it looks ok on every video I’ve seen especially the front but I’ve seen a couple of these in person and it’s actually a great looking car 😭 if you seen it in person you know what I mean
I know I’m gonna get massive hate for this…. but, I wish they made a luxury version of the Z. The exterior is jaw-droppingly beautiful but the interior… ehhh not so much. I know this car is for true Z enthusiasts and is technically a “sports car” but WOW if they offered a luxury trim I would buy it in a heartbeat. Leather and metal where there’s plastic, electric seats, all of the luxury tech and amenities you would think of being standard in a “luxury” car.. that’s what I’m talking about! But I do understand that’s not what this car is about and I’m okay knowing that. Looks really cool as is though and is probably the only Nissan I’ve ever said that about lol.
It depends on the person! I'm happy to deal with humid hot summers when I have a perfect "winter" weather, beaches, no state income tax, and endless sun.
Perfect answer but I'll add that you'll probably only notice the heat and humidity if you're homeless. My house is air conditioned Car is air conditioned and every single place I need to go is also air-conditioned. I can manage the heat walking to and from the car@@KirkKreifels
These are actually looking good in the used market. In Canada I can find 2023 ones with up to 15k in price drop. I can stomach that given the overall quality of the car vs the MSRP.
That’s what I trade my 2021 awd Mazda 3 turbo in for. It’s nice expensive.. but nice. But I will says I miss my Mazda because it was in fact hatchback and was more practical it had a mix of sport luxury!
I’ve never seen one on the road or even a commercial on TV for it. I did see one on the lot at a Nissan dealership last month. I’ve never seen a Supra at the Toyota dealership I pass on the way to work either. All you see are SUV’s and pickup trucks on the lots now, so sad. Kirk, what is your daily driver vehicle when you’re not making these videos?
I had ordered a new Z and paid a deposit however Nissan told be it would take 2 years to come I took my deposit back and bought a Supra I would be happy with either car
Nice review. Yes needs vented seats. One thing this has over the Supra - Android auto. Would have bought but just $5K too much. I’m in So Cal and have only seen 2. What’s up with that Nissan? Either they are not making enough or it is the price.
Nissan asking an awful lot of money for something that basically dates back to 2002. Not to mention the fun that is dealing with Nissan dealerships. Not out of the question that owners will have an orphaned vehicle in the not too distant future
Fully disagree on the Z having more curb appeal than the Supra. You can fault the Supra for a lot of things, but it gets insane amounts of attention (almost too much). Can't possibly imagine the Z matching that.
Not only do you get a manual transmission, but Nissan still gave it a mechanical handbrake lever. That's something that annoys me with the Civic Typ R/Integra Type S ans the Supra
Disappointed in what Nissan delivered with this Z from pricing & performance in regards to its competition. Visually it's design is also a let down, the retro look does not flow across fluidly like the 370' before it. To each their own though. Hope better is achieved with the next Z iteration. 👍
Are you in Naples?? I've got what I assume is the only Proto Spec Z in town and I've actually only seen two other new Zs in the area, to this point. Definitely has a rarity to it.
Was looking for a boulder grey with red interior for over a year and couldn't find one. Supply chain issues? Bought a supra instead 🤷♂️ i legit have only seen one Z (yellow) on the road here in Dallas.
I think it's the best looking Z ever. Brings back the Datsun vibes. The Supra is flashy, but it's an ugly car with those fake vents and weird lines. Too bad this Z is not selling, reminds me of those 3rd generation RX-7s that never sold, but looked so sweet.
The interaction with the dude in the other car explains the downfall of this car. No one knows what it is because they don't produce many, people don't buy them, and they should be less expensive.
Since Nissan stops GT-R production this year why couldn't they use the VR38 in a Nismo Z , that way the Z actually has something that makes it stand out from other cars , and at 55K a used Q50/60 redsport is like 30-35K & is so much better value for 90% the same car
My Z has been a great daily so far. Cant wait to wear out my factory tires and put in something better. There are some asphalt roads where the back end slips out if I put on the gas at 1/4 throttle. Getting 32mpg on roadtrips with the auto trans almost justifies not getting a manual.
Why all the comments I don't see any?Outsold Supra close to 2-1 last quarter but you will never see a ton of these and why would you want a dime a dozen car anyway?Buy a Mustang if you want to be like everyone else.I heard the Dark Horse is aa bargain at $75k for aa Mustang lmfao
Z is not as comfortable as the Supra by a long shot. It feels cheap and yea you get attention but at the same time you deal with a lot of people just dogging on Nissan's laziness in producing this car. It has nothing special to it. It also isn't called the 400 Z, its called just "Z". I also wouldn't describe it's power as "linear" especially when compared to the Supra
This car was built from recycled old Nissan parts from the chassis to the door handles and electronic switches, the skin and the looks is the only difference and that's fine and understandable coming from a company that's about to go out of business my respects to Nissan but the crazy marked up prices for this car is so sad because it won't help Nissan at all.
It's a better value than a GR Supra 3.0 but not a better sports car. The Z is largely a warmed over prior gen car but that's okay in this niche market segment. However, skip the overpriced Nismo without a manual. Supra's likely gone by next year, anyway. 😭
Not entirely apples to apples, but same with Acura with the NSX. Overpriced. Also the impression on this of not enough goodies for the price, ie, ventilated seats, up-to-date camera, wireless Android, no sunroof, few fun color combinations. I like this paint but not everybody does, witness the comment about waiting for Nissan to paint it... I get it! The other colors are a little zooey for my conservative tastes. I like this though, finally a newer Z that interests... if only my 70 year old body could deal with the getting in and out! Great report Kirk!
$55k for a Z. That’s M240i territory where you get much better tech. A worlds better interior, and a bomb proof engine that just sounds amazing compared to the Hoover vacuum cleaner of the Z. As for save the manuals. Try commuting in LA rush our traffic daily and you’ll quickly be converted to autos😊😊😊
You can upgrade the suspension of the Z to make it handle sharper, and you can add more power, but you cannot easily un-fugly the exterior of the Supra........
