Very cool mate! Love that kind of experiments :) I think I'm gonna make an electric violin very soon and I was considering to put frets on it :) Currently i did something opposite. I've pulled ou frets form one guitar and made same tuning rule as You did from low F to E. It's now like a 8-string guitar range and 5th's between strings give some new possibilities :)
I was thinking that very thought yesterday, I think they're more for look at the end of the day, the odd hard to reach note is handy to have the frets. portamento effects are no problem
