In a way, it sucks that he hasn't had more of a solo career as a rock musician but at the same time it's really cool that one reason he hasn't is because he's spent so much time teaching kids.
Yes, I agree. Mark Wood is incredible as a solo musician, especially with his wife Laura Kaye. They are both amazing in concert. However, they both are really changing the education scene. They have this awesome camp every summer that helps educate kids about different genres of music, including classical (we played some metal Beethoven last year!) and it really changed my life.
If ya'll know him please encourage him to record more, for Music's sake! He's really elevated the instrument and I know violinist everywhere will learn and be inspired
Met him last night. One of the most influential and personable person. And AMAZING player! If you ever get a chance to see him perform, Do it! You will NOT regret it!
This amazingly talented violinist has motivated so many violinists to reach outside of the box. We are all very grateful. Thank you Mark Wood for your curiosity and genius creativity, and, of course, your insanely awesome violins!
That definitely took several hours of daily practice over several years, but I guarantee a good portion of that time was spent just playing around with it. Most of my practice, since I've only just started, has mostly been fiddling (giggle) around with it and trying to match tunes by ear. I almost have twinkle twinkle litter star, trying to decide if I should get happy birthday or the mario theme next. The metroid theme is on the list of must learns, but I got a long way before I'm good enough for that.
This guy is coming to my school to play with our orchestra and I'm so freaking excited to finally see him. He's been a huge musical inspiration to all of my music friends.
@hineraable an electric guilin? viotar? not quite a violin with its 4 strings, half of its strings are guitar and has the same number of strings as one?
I first heard of mark wood from a guitarist magazine from early 90's. Today I was looking thru same magazine and decided to check it out! Wow something different from an essentially classical instrument! Keep pushing boundaries mark as a lot of people don't understand your concept!
@@hansmahr8627 No hate on Paganini, but some of the things Mark plays are more difficult than some caprices. Have you tried using multiple pedals to change the sound of your instrument, gosh, I’ve only used one and it’s hard playing the things he plays and using pedals.
@@alraapl It's much easier than Paganini. Most of what he does is just scales and using effects. Not to mention the fact that he's playing with frets which removes one of the most difficult parts of violin playing: intonation. I very much doubt that he could play one of the more difficult caprices with all those fast parallel octaves and tenths that have to be perfectly in tune. They're a a struggle for the world's greatest violinists, this dude is not even close. If you want to see some truly virtuosic violin playing, look up the video of Leonid Kogan playing Paganini's Nel cor piu non mi sento, one of the hardest violin pieces of all time. Kogan plays it without the help of electronic effects or frets and makes this dude look like a beginner.
Actually I found out that his Viper ( the instrument that he's playing) is A Violin, Viola, Cello and a Bass because I've met Mark Wood and I got to play with him in a concert and he also signed my Viola
Mark, it’s Randi Fishenfeld! I am finally fully utilizing my beautiful viper. This video motivated my butt to do some amazing stuff. Thank you!!!! I love your(my) kick-ass violin!
This is the first I've heard a rock violist with a great bow arm! This dude has tranformed the classical Violin into a rock instrument yet tonaly rich as any concert artist. Elevating! (I wonder if it would be a big learning curve for a violinist ro adapt, and what in the world is that violin... how many strings? Appreciate any feedback)
Greetings from Ukraine! WOW! That's so awesome! I've started to learn violin about 19 months ago and when I watched the video with you telling about this violin, I was so surprised.. It's like multiple instruments in one. I love to compose and produce music and songs. I also love to tunre and fix pianos and grands.. I don't know if I will ever have any possibility to pruchase such a violin, but I believe, the mirracle happents. Thanks for such a great performance! I have some of my impromptus here on my channel. Welcome to watch some, when you have a time. Kind regards...
I'm going to be performing with him in a couple of weeks! We're going to perform several songs at Fiesta Texas (the place not the actual fiesta). He's giving away an electric violin signed by him. we are going to get cool t-shirts that only people who have performed with him get! He's going to give out free autographs and autograph our t-shirts! I'm in the advanced chamber orchestra at my school, and this is going to be very cool to perform with him!
on Mark Wood's website electrify your strings there are videos and he said himself that it is a Viola. And instruments can have multiple strings and different kinds of them too.

And building violins.
Yeah when I played with him when I was in 6th grade he was actually sweet and really cool to talk to he’s really good with solo and teaching kids

Did that violin growl at me?
I think it did.
Yee woop it's ass.
I wanna know the tone
Damn right it did!
Dude looks like a young alice cooper.

Had the honor to play with him last week so amazing!!! I would do it every night of the week!
This guy came to my school and played the electric violin for us and it was really awsome!
This has to be hands down one of the coolest things I have ever heard. o.o
The way it looks like a shoulder-plate makes this instrument additionally suited for metal
7 strings! Almost enough to djent on, but what a sacreligious boi!
AMAZING! WOW!
Remember to practice 40 hours a day.
Ling Ling 40 hours

When I was in middle school and high school, he visited our school many times. He is so down to earth and talented
glad there is still people in the world with classic 80's rock hair
ok I don't know when violins started to sound like electric guitars but this guy is TOTALLY AMAZING!!!!!!
It's not really a violin lol, also its electric
I thought it was an electric violin. If its not a violin then what it is? Asking for real.

@@goodboi1725 extended range guitars are still guitars, why wouldn't the same be true of violins?
@@Stargazer1312 no like, it the instrument hes playing acts like a keyboard, where one side plays guitar noises while the other plays violin
This has to be the truest metal violin I’ve ever heard
Thank you!!!
A man ahead of his time.glad he didnt pick up guitar.he is great

incredible. I've always wanted to learn to play the violin
He really does love this psychedelic effect.
Who said violins couldn´t sound evil... metal guitars, eat your heart out! Lol
this how violins should be and played for a long time!!!!
he's the first person i've ever seen shredding on a violin.
You should see Jerry Goodman from Mahavishnu Orchestra, he was the first violin shredder IMO
People have been shredding on the violin for centuries. Look up Paganini, much more difficult than the stuff this guy plays.
