These were probably the best maintained Hornets flying.

The RAAF Classic Hornets did us proud and were a great platform in their day. No where near the capability of the Super Hornet now and even further behind in capability than F35 and F22 5th gen fighters.

Love our CF-18 Hornets. Wish our Government would purchase the Super Hornets over the F-35's. Still, pound for pound, the best all round fighter in the world, IMHO. But I'm biased!

Amazing! Would be so great to see Canada and Australia on a joint exercise maybe? Just wow. Plenty of action in the South China Sea

Why? You don’t want 5th Gen?

Our Hornets are going to a good home with the Canadians in a sad, gradual retirement but knowing the hands they're in is reassuring ;).
"Oh hey der bud, yeah I'll buy ye Hornet off ya, no I insist take it for less, sorry!" is what I imagine the Canadians were like when the RAAF were selling their Hornets xD

These planes would have been flying to boneyards in Arizona.

I cannot believe that Canada can't afford to buy new equipment for our armed forces. We should be buying the new Super F-18 to replace our aging air force. In these troubled times we will be very sorry if we are not well armed. And as for buying used equipment, remember the submarines !?! WTF !!

Believe it. Our gov't (Libs and PC) have a long disdain for military spending unless they can spin it for their buddies (Irvings for example- how many ships will we actually get for the money?). The CP-140 fleet should have been replaced 15 years ago. Structurally, before they decided to re-wing them, we were out of airframe hours. Sadly the CH-148 Cyclone procurement disaster has made them even more gun-shy...

@@Blowinshiddup It seems so simple; check what is on the market, choose what fits our needs, negotiate for the best price, and buy. Like buying a new car ? Maybe too simple for bureaucrats !
